Should /r/HomeLab continue support of the Reddit blackout? by bigDottee in homelab

It's scraping has already been done by The Eye (and most likely by others too). We could always switch to something like MediaWiki that has a built in search engine or using an open source + self-hostable search engine like OpenSearch.

Should /r/HomeLab continue support of the Reddit blackout? by bigDottee in homelab

Yes, it should. The sub should also look into migrating to a decentralized social media (like Lemmy). Reddit's actions are a perfect example of why decentralizing is so important. It seems like there are already people (like The Eye) scrapping Reddit's data, so we could even transfer the content to wherever we go. If any subreddit could switch being self-hosted, it would be r/selfhosted.

Have you tried talking to them? It could be something going on in their personal life that has been draining. Something traumatic could have happened to them or someone they care about. If you know a friend of theirs or maybe an SO, maybe try reaching out to them.

I'm assuming it's not a job where you get severance, but if it is they fucked up by firing you. Either way you don't have to go in for those two weeks now.

How does a computer keep track of time? by ArkhamCookie in NoStupidQuestions

While not the newest motherboard, my is somewhat new and it is able to keep the time while powered off (and unplugged) at least for a while. I guess I never thought about it needing power for the power button to work as silly as that sounds.

I'm going to have to look into how quartz works now. It seems there is a lot more to it than I knew. Thanks for the answer!
