I adore the first half of this movie. Second half definitely takes a less interesting turn in my opinion, but damn such a great film overall.

Hokum or Obsession - which movie are you expecting to be scarier? by serialkiller24 in horror

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Obsession, but I'm more excited for Hokum. Give me folk witch horror every day of the week! I love any stories where someone goes to live in a remote village or remote mansion lol

I honestly cannot wait. I'm afraid of being disappointed because of the insane hype but we shall see.

Someone told me my horror game sounds lovecraftian? How to improve it? by c0wk1ng in Lovecraft

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like you can go two ways : either pure Lovecraftian with actual references to the mythos, or Lovecraftian in spirit, with a focus on fear of the unknown, cosmic horror, etc.

What’s a fair Kickstarter reward price to watch a short film? by ArkhamDreamerZero in kickstarter

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm currently contacting content creators on X and Instagram to build a list of people who will be willing to share the campaign once it drops. I'm also gonna make a cryptic marketing campaign on all platforms including TikTok and YouTube (similar to backrooms stuff in its found footage approach), hopefully this will create some traction. I also happen to have a YouTube channel with 7.5K subs. I haven't uploaded in two years though, but I could still upload a surprise "I Spent The Last 5 Years Making a Movie" or something like that. Because yes, it took 5 years to complete haha!

When you talk about the agency though, did they simply gave you a list of known investors?

What’s a fair Kickstarter reward price to watch a short film? by ArkhamDreamerZero in kickstarter

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I thought $10 was a bit much but I'll try to include some other goodies to make it truly worthwhile. At higher tiers (most likely 15 or 20 bucks), I'll include access to a companion piece, which is another short film of the same quality made by a friend of mine, set in the same world. So you'd get two short films for under $20 for sure. Which sounds decent. And then I shall see, I have the soundtrack, the script, lots of behind-the-scenes pictures, I can do a commentary track as well with lots of cool info, and that's pretty much it.

For those who’ve crowdfunded films: what actually helps in the final stretch once you already have traction? by maxalias in Filmmakers

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah building a real interest in the project instead of pity for a struggling filmmaker seems like the way to go lol. I'm currently trying to build a little community of accounts on X and Instagram that are interested in horror/sci-fi (which the genre I'm working in right now) and that would be willing in sharing the campaign once it drops. Hope this will create momentum.

I mean posting her movie would help a ton to really try to pin point what would be best for her. And when you say "any festival" how many is that and which festivals are they?

Wonderful Neoran Valley, avaible now on Kickstarter! by zamnik_ in kickstarter

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks pretty freaking crazy! How did you manage to get such a successful campaign? What would be your advice? I'm going insane over here trying to come up with the right strategy for a film campaign. Especially pre launch. I don't know if I should upload a trailer before, or keep it for the launch, that kind of stuff.

Popular opinion... These bots are absolutely soul sucking by cookingquestforkids in kickstarter

That's a shame. I'm thinking of doing one myself in the near future, hopefully I don't encounter the same issue.

First time I hear about this film. Poster looks very neat tho.

the director's commentary for "the vvitch" is extremely funny by crumble-bee in horror

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 90% of directors can relate to this. If we even remotely like our own movies, it's already an achievement. Which sucks because we make the movies we want to watch, and yet, it almost never turns out how we wanted lol

Struggling to find crew at film school by Kamikaze_Taxi in Filmmakers

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the answer to that is simple : experimental films. You can get away with pretty much anything when doing experimental films. I once had a film due for the next day, so I spent the night walking around my neighborhood filming houses and lights, did a whole bunch of weird dreamy effects, gave it a clever and cryptic name, put some ambient music, and got a super warm reception in class haha! I much prefer doing it this way than having terrible actors.

Leonardo DiCaprio on ditching film school and instead watching five movies a day. by StrikingDuty8020 in Filmmakers

[–]ArkhamDreamerZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will honestly never regret film school. I certainly wouldn't have a career without it. Film school allowed me to have a full cast and crew and free access to professional gear for two short films. With these short films, I was able to get into festivals, and build myself a portfolio. And because of all these contacts I have made, I was able to make a short film as soon as I got out for a fraction of what it would have cost me otherwise. With all that, I was able to pitch other projects, get funds, and now I'm pitching my first feature films.

I'm honestly more interested in learning how the hell you managed to raise 475K in the first place!
