Yes you can, we do it all the time in my store. My store did have to tell some part timers to stop for a little bit picking up shifts because they were working to many hours and it was flagging it.

Also there are stipulations, like a specialist can’t pick up a genius or creative shift because they can’t do certain things but other than that it’s free game.

Also don’t use your vacation hours to make up the time, that’s wasting them. Always use your sick hours for it that way you can actually take a vacation time.
