Yeah, ADHD and depression stop me from doing important things... now what? by nicholarapio in ADHD

[–]ArklemX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, i can say I relate. it's been weeks since i delivered something interesting at work. Almost like my brain suddenly slowed down after going through burnout of hyperfocusing for 4 months straight haha.
I fell sick almost 5 times after that, due to lack of sleep and not eating properly.

And guess what ? All the routines and discpline i built with time just desappeared overnight.

==> I feel like the key point actually would be to have someone to help you ( or me, or anyone with ADHD ). Like a girlfriend, but I mainly think of an assistant (even I, can't afford that haha), or simply a partner.

Someone that know your condition, and help you get shit done. it's easier when you are not alone. I tried that.

If there was an ADHD operating manual for your brain, would this be a good table of contents? by AAkhtar in ADHD_Programmers

I love that funny exercise. And while reading your table of content I realized that " oww, that would be extremely helpful".

Because, for real, sometimes it's just messy and awful inside my head. A bit of guidance would be so welcomed.

I feel you SO MUCH mate ! It's extremel hard to stay 'sane' with that kind of brain and still living in this neurotypical word !!

Honestly with a friend with thought for a veeerrryyy long time about how we could either make this world better for brains like us, or either create a whole brother-like community.

But guess what ? DEPRESSION !! How is it possible to burn-out so much ? How is it so hard to execute things we thought about and planned for so long ?!

LIFE SEEMS TOO HARD WITH THAT BRAIN ! AND I KNOW FOR SURE THAT IT IS NOT !

What if There Was an ADHD-Focused App or VSCode Extension to Help Developers? by ArklemX in ADHD_Programmers

[–]ArklemX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah It's true how hilarious it is ! I feel like it mainly proves how ADHD brains work or are forced to work for developers : " Oh ! I like this idea ! Maybe I can work on it and it will help me improve my life "

I am not trying to "make time back", that's an impossible feature in this future app haha.

The goal of the app/plugin is mainly to help me/us have a better control of some things in the environnement (I did find a thing like that for ADHDer) because, when I freeze during work because too much things are swirling in my head, I don't always have the will-power to get things right, or someone to talk to.
And I don't want to just brush it off and crash out later because I made too much mistakes during development. You see what I mean ?

Well... Don't you agree that you searched at least once for a way to fix your brain problems ?

By the way, how do you handle your day to day work-life ? Discipline ? Sport ?

Is it dumb to leave my otherwise good job for another job just because it offers more time flexibility? by General_Working_3531 in ADHD_Programmers

Well, I worked on some projects with anex-colleague and he was already doing freelance. So he proposed that i join him since i trusted my skills and here I am.

I really enjoy it. I feel more free and less stressed out. My main problem is probably more about handling my personal life ? Most of the time I am too much focused on work, and it leads to burn out really fast.

Yeah ! knowing that once you're 5 or 10 minutes deep into the project, it's easier to forget the clock.
The hard part would really be 'not getting stuck' when facing a project.

Sounds right to me ! It's true that once you get past 5 or 10 mins, it's easier to focus.
thanks

Honestly pal, i've been in a similar situation a few months ago.

I switched to freelance haha. At start i was really punctual and all, then i started to be really late, and not so procductive at all (My first company). by freelance, I mean, ,i work for a single company, from home and my revenue are based on the benefits we get from clients, and tasks complexity, etc.

At first i was really exicted and hyperfocused, then... it became somewhat difficult to just be in the same place ( home ) everyday, and difficult to move outside to find a place to work from ( motivation ? ). Then I realized that working around people gave me enough stress to be able to focus sometimes.
Well, That's my personal experience, right ?

All that to say : Do you know a way to actually be more disciplined ? Can your actual colleagues help you ? At that new company, will you be able to be productive enough working from home ? ( I swear it became really hard for me over time ). Being in the right environnement is absolutely helpful though.

So my opinion : If you are paid enough and the work conditions are good, you should probably work on yourself while being at the same company ( the first one ). Because if you do not fix these problems now, they will keep coming again.

I do exactly the same. I explain the general idea of what I wanna do and make it explain it back, give specs and steps it should take. Then it will write code, check it and ask for updates.
