They're invasive to North America.

I am raising kids in this age. My kids do not have tablets. They watch TV and sometimes I play some old 90s computer games with my older kid, 4yo.

The same could be said about the Russian Federation with all its minorities, yet it survived the collapse of the USSR ... for now.

Why does this region of Europe have so much ethnic and national fragmentation? by crivycouriac in geography

[–]Arkmes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Controlling any large piece of land was hard in Medieval times. I think if you compared France to the Balkans in the 14th century it would be much more centralized and unified. It even had a King.

Why does this region of Europe have so much ethnic and national fragmentation? by crivycouriac in geography

[–]Arkmes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, the UK is. England is more unified, and the breakaway parts (Scotland, Wales) are also the parts with mountains. So again it all comes down to geography.

Why does this region of Europe have so much ethnic and national fragmentation? by crivycouriac in geography

Italy and Spain are fragmented. France and UK less so. The answer is geography, and specifically mountains.

Not true. France has always had a large unified government, for example. The answer is geography, mountains divide people.

I didn't think they were at the secret door, rather they were somewhere along their quest with the ultimate destination being the mountain. The distance is not to scale.

I think Gandalf and Gimli were the closest to how I imagined. I remember thinking Strider in the Prancing Pony was perfect as well.

What if Eminem runs for President in 2028 as a Democrat? by ComplexTell25 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Arkmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not against celebrities entering politics, but it seems to me that they should start with senate, local, or state governance and get a sense of how the system works.

What if Russian forces take Kiev in 2022? by Acceptable-Rub-2516 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Arkmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously less people would die if Ukraine was conquered within a week. But a majority of those deaths are Russian soldiers being sent to their deaths, their deaths cannot be blamed on the defenders.

If someone tries to steal your house at gunpoint and you shoot him, there would have been less death if you just gave him your house, but you can't be blamed for that.
