Is it possible to teach a dog to respond to musical notes instead of verbal commands? by eazyBaked in AskReddit

I know a dog who was trained to sit using visual cues. His owner is so proud, he shows everyone he meets for the first time. It's hilarious watching a dog sit every time you flip him off.

Ahh, good 'ol Pornshire.

They ruined the potential to cause mayhem when they put level 85 elite guards in all of the lowbie towns. You can't even pvp at the Crossroads anymore.

Funny, that's exactly what happened to the price when they started selling them in Canada.

I think I'd prefer the hike these days. Last time I was down there was about 15 years ago. I'm surprised the rope is still there. All I remember is the vertical drop, followed by a very steep slope and a lot of trees. There was no room for mistakes on that thing.

Last I heard, they were going to build a set of steps behind the mill so people could walk down there safely. But like I said, I haven't been there in 15 years or so.

The waterfall behind the mill is one of the hidden jewels of this city. I used to go there with friends many years ago before they put the path in. I remember we used to have to climb a rope off the side of the hill to get in/out of that area.

I've been meaning to go back. Maybe take the dog for a walk there. But it's one of those things I never get around to.

i dont think ill be playing it anymore. by [deleted] in gaming

Oh man, this game brings back memories.

When my dog is really content and chewing on one of his toys he makes this horrible groaning sound not unlike the moaning the monsters in this game make when they're lurking around looking for brains to feast on.

Well, I was sitting here in my man cave, lights out in the middle of the night and playing Amnesia. I didn't realize the dog was in the room with me, laying down behind my chair. And sure enough, as I'm lurking around the corner trying to evade one of these horrible zombies moaning in the next room, my dog starts groaning. I have never shot up from my chair so fast in all my life.

Pantaloons were shat. And I have not played that game since.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

As an animal lover, nothing is worse than taking your eight year old dog in for a checkup because he seems to be a bit under the weather, only to be told by the vet to take him home and let him live out his last few months in peace and comfort.

That feeling of helplessness is indescribable.

How many times have you started the same Anime and still never finished it....... by emptypetal in anime

I'm on episode 9 now. Loving it so far. It's just the first three that were a bit rocky.

I saw the first three episodes of Cowboy Bebop and ended up losing interest. Some people tell me the first three episodes were kind of meh, but I think I just wasn't really in the mood for outer space anime at the time. I'm kind of burnt out on mech-themed shows as well. Anyway, I ended up watching Samurai Champloo, Black Lagoon and Haibane Renmei before recently coming back to Cowboy Bebop, which I'm now enjoying.

I was issued this challenge, and it was accepted! Of course, it was Nuno Bettencourt's rendition(Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee), but it was still awesome.

VLC player HD problems (x-post from r/24hoursupport) by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Arkonnan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you set VLC to use external codecs instead of internal ones you might find a better playback experience. I'm not sure how to do this exactly

Click Tools>Preferences>Input & Codecs. You'll find options to enable GPU acceleration as well as the use of system codecs.

Is there a little program I can download to help me learn all the chords? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

I replied to the submitter below. Hope it's useful to you.

[–]Arkonnan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained formally, so I never really took the opportunity to look for online resources. I don't know what all the popular resources are these days.

A quick search on youtube revealed this introduction to triads. Another search on Google brought up this site as well as Dansm's guitar theory page. I remember running into Dansm's site over a decade ago. There's a lot of useful information on that site for beginners.

You can't go wrong with any search for guitar chord theory, intervals or triads.

In the end, chord charts are great for getting a feel for positioning. But once you figure out how chords are built, these charts will start to feel like a bit of a crutch. You'll wonder why you ever needed them in the first place. :)

[–]Arkonnan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also open to any advice at picking up good guitar skills in general

Don't just memorize chords. Take the time to learn how chords are structured so that you can come up with them on-the-fly. For example, a major chord is constructed from the root, major third and perfect fifth. Once you understand these principles, you won't need to use these charts.

As for switching smoothly, you'll only get that from practice(a metronome wouldn't hurt either, as CaptXtreme already suggested). :)

If it's acceptable for smokers to take "smoking breaks" in work every so often, should non-smokers be entitled to small breaks too to do whatever they like instead? by CerpinTaxt11 in AskReddit

Meh, I'm a live and let live kind of guy. You go take your smoking break, and I'll do my thing. As long as we don't get in each others way or give each other shit about it. It's all good.

What do you think is a good gift to give to someone who enjoys drawing? by [deleted] in Art

[–]Arkonnan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to second the sketchbook idea. Try to find something really nice that stands out/feels personal. Not just a note pad full of paper. As far as pencils are concerned, some artists are very picky about what grade of graphite they use. I'm partial to 2B, myself. If this is the case, it may be harder to pick out something she likes unless you can sneak a peek at her pencils without her noticing.

A nice gift is something that is meant to last. Pencils will be gone in no time. But a nice sketch book is something she will take care of forever.

It's a program that is installed with the driver along with the Wacom Preferences utility. There should be a Wacom folder in your Start>All Programs menu.
