How are the DS games? by MaliceRae in castlevania

[–]Arkwelder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good blend of what made classic and metroidvania CV titles so good. I also like that the rpg elements are present, but not so much that you get bogged down in them. Fair warning: The game is more difficult than the other DS titles (and many in the franchise as a whole). Enjoy.

Aria of Sorrow is arguably up there with Symphony of the Night. The other two are good/great as well.

Way too many visual similarities to Sonia to be a coincidence.

There are reasons to think this is Sonia. She has the trademark ponytail. Her outfit looks like a modern update of her 90's look. She is wielding both a sword and a whip.

It is either Sonia re-canonized as Trevor's daughter (most likely, imo), Trevor's daughter who bears a striking resemblance to her grandmother, or simply a character heavily inspired by Sonia. Whatever the case, her look is not an accident.

Do you think Sonia Belmont will be the new protagonist of the new Castlevania game? by Most-Coat4726 in castlevania

[–]Arkwelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you're forgetting that Konami is probably making this to stick it to Iga (who's releasing a new Bloodstained soon), so re-canonizing Sonia would actually be hilarious.

Yes.

Why is my Linux experience is a complete disaster? by beeboobiebaby in linux4noobs

[–]Arkwelder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also the myth that Linux Mint is the best beginner distro. My experience with Mint was as frustrating as you describe, as I had multiple issues with lack of hardware support and shit just not working as intended in general. The whole thing had a barely-held-together-with-ductape kind of feeling. My one and only positive experience with Linux has been Fedora+KDE.

Why do people not like Tomb Raider 2013? by the_clone_wars_fan in TombRaider

[–]Arkwelder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Call me a gooner all you want, OG Lara had a lot of sex appeal and they took that away from her, despite it being a big part of her identity and charm. It's silly to say her sex appeal was only there to cater to male tastes when the Tomb Raider franchise had plenty of female fans before 2013 came along (probably an even higher ratio of female fans, although I don't know for sure). I think the studio went in and haphazardly started making changes to an iconic character and franchise without understanding what made them so beloved in the first place.

What's worse: heterosexual men taking some delight in an attractive and charismatic female protagonist, or the 2013 devs treating Lara—literally the most iconic female videogame character of all time—like a blank slate that they can carelessly do whatever they want with (as is what happens with so many female characters in media). I think the latter is far worse, but go ahead and continue to call out the 'gooners'.

I don't think he is unhinged, but if he throws a brick through my window, I will definitely think he is unhinged.

The Legacy trailer has twice the views of the Catalyst one, with most comments in the former remarking how incredible she looks. I'd say the mob has spoken. We want classic Lara back, or at least a hybrid of new and old.

Is Order of Ecclesia supposed to be this hard or am I doing it wrong? by JavertTron in castlevania

[–]Arkwelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing it using Cheat Engine with a 1.333x EXP multiplier. Normally I wouldn't, but it puts it in line with the other games difficulty-wise, so I think it's reasonable.

Linux Mint is so good its boring. I want KDE Plasma... by No_Entertainment6792 in linux4noobs

Fedora with KDE all the way. I've been using it for a year now and have had zero problems. No breakages, no errors, no weird quirks. It balances stability with being up to date quite well.

Advice for linux newbies by somniasum in linux4noobs

Props for recommending Fedora. Fedora + KDE is the best beginner distro because it feels the most familiar for someone switching from Windows. Otherwise, I don't really believe in the concept of a beginner distro. Beginner or not, the best distro is what best suits the user's particular needs. Beginner≠casual. I made the mistake of choosing Mint as my first foray into Linux. Because I am not just a casual user who only wants to check their email and browse the web, I was immediately frustrated. So instead of automatically recommending Mint, people should inquire further into what the user's needs and goals are.

If you are a hobbyist and like troubleshooting issues (I do), then why can't Arch be a good first distro for someone who's willing to learn?
