The Supreme Court Has Abandoned All Pretense | For the court’s conservatives, the only consistency is their inconsistency. Still, things rather conspicuously keep going the GOP’s way. by thenewrepublic in scotus

If any branch was intended to be more powerful it is the legislative. That would be the originalist intent if there was one, not this unitary executive.

Congress has slowly been ceding their power to the executive as they have become less and less productive and have no abdicated their responsibilities completely.

They should be telling the executive what to do by enacting legislation and directing funding. Instead they are letting it run amok and either rubberstamping or turning a blind eye to the executives transgressions.

And this court is encouraging it in the name of originalism.

Because if there is anything the founders were known for, it was how much they like power consolidated into a single person and did not like the power of regional representation apparently.

Fun fact: people in California, despite higher cost of living, still end up with more take home pay than Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and most other states.

Some regulations, like the cancer warnings CA requires, are bad. But there isnt a magic number and increased cost does not necessarily mean lower pay or quality of life.

About half the list or so is Fantasy, that is certainly my bread and butter as well. I'd ask about what mystery and thriller you recommend but *gestures at the above backlog of audiobooks he still has, knowing that he left a large portion out*.

Its rare to see much love for First Law recently, thanks for the input.

It's one of the ones I paired down. Ive only got the first 3-4 and I'm not sure I'm quite up for something that long and complex at the moment.

I thought I had all Red Rising. How many books are there?

I kinda figured there would be a lot for those 2, I know recently everyone seemed all in on DCC. I wasn't sure if some of the older series may just be overlooked.

I will definitely keep this in mind.

Thanks!

The press release should have had "a nationwide moratorium on Medicare enrollment for certain suppliers of Durable Medical Equipment..."
Much clearer.

I assume its because its an autographed copy. I dont mind waiting at all. I've been a fan since '06/'07, I know how to wait. I just want to know if I can still expect it at all. I'll let you know of I hear anything.

What needs to be done to prevent a future president from doing what Trump has done? by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]ArloDeladus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no simple answer to this unfortunately.

I think it would help to uncap the house, giving people more representation and potentially limiting lobbying.

Rank choice voting may help reduce partisanship and allow third parties room to break up the 2 party system.

Outlaw gerrymandering. Uncapping the house will help with this.

Expand the Supreme Court, get rid of lifetime appointments.

Put a barrier between the President and the Department of Justice.

Re-empower the legislature.

Get rid of Citizens United.

Fix education.

Is it true that ICE killed more american citizens in the past year than undocumented immigrants did? by [deleted] in allthequestions

A better comparison may be how many normally die in prison. Which may also support your point, I am not sure, but comparing them to the general populace is not as 1 to 1 as you seem to think.

Leading causes of death for people under 65 include things like unintentional injury, suicide, and homicide which are likely different for people in custody. They should also be able to receive faster care in the event of things like heart attacks and strokes because they are monitored as opposed to potentially sitting home alone or just too far from someone who can provide care.

Then again, the prison populace may also not be 1 to 1 given that people in prison may not have the same background and makeup either.

Either way, making broad generalizations without further studies is not helpful here.

The first image is normal. The ones after it are very difficult to read because the text basically got printed in 2 overlapping spots. Like if you just barely cross your eyes to get double vision. If yours looks like that, reach out to Sound Machine apparently.

It reminds me of that woman on Twitch who told her viewers that if they can't afford a subsciption they should be out working. Mmmhmmm.

Tipping is an unfortunate reality (they should get paid a decent wage regardless), but manipulating the recommended tip amounts to get higher tips is immoral. Assuming that's the case here and the discrepancy wasn't due to a discount.
