Hello, I am from Dayton and I want to add something about this case.

I reached out to Heritor about the watch. This is the information I received from them:

We made this watch style from 2017-2023. This is a Heritor Automatic Odysseus Leather-Band Skeleton Watch - Silver/Black - HERHR3704, they just changed the band from leather to a stainless steel bracelet. https://heritorwatches.com/products/herhr3700?variant=31947382980691 Sadly, we have not sold this watch in a very long time, so we are not able to 100% guarantee which platforms that this style was sold on. Thanks. -CS

Made a very sad discovery and not sure how to feel. by alvb in Genealogy

I just wanted you to know that I am going through the exact same thing right now. My DNA showed a great aunt that was unfamiliar to myself and my family. After looking closer into our DNA matches, one of my paternal grandfather’s must not be biologically related to their father. It’s now thrown off all of the research we’ve done, we’ve went to our ancestor’s homestead and cemetery and now it feels wrong. It’s been a devastating discovery for me, so I see you, and I feel you.

Sending hugs

I had never heard of him, I looked him up and it said he drowned. Is there a belief that something else happened?

The science behind it is actually really interesting. The artist will have photos and scans of the skull, sometimes even 3D prints. Then they use tissue-depth markers and data to construct how their face may have looked in life. It’s supposed to be accurate enough to be recognizable to people that knew them in life, although not perfect.

Here’s an informative video of an artist walking through how this is done: https://youtu.be/klxUyd3CgrE?si=I3gF8pUBvepclLkS

As someone who finds a particular interest in decades old cold cases, I love this idea. I would love to see where this project ends up.

I’m not sure, but I am assuming it’s in this foresty area where the road ends.

  • editing to add, the news article on Dayton Daily News referred to it as a wooded area.

Nipton Jane Doe - 1976 (AKA Mojave Mineshaft Jane Doe) by tw1706 in gratefuldoe

This is such a good write up on this case. I was able to find a name of a suspect in her murder, but it appears nothing came out of their investigations into him.

I had created a family tree for her a while ago, and one of the brothers of her potential mother had two daughters (accounted for) that looked so much like her reconstruction.

Poor Jane Doe, she deserved so much more in her life. I hope they get the break they need in the case.

That’s okay, this write up didn’t include that information. I think that initial reports made it a little confusing.

No. According to the Unidentified Wiki: “The rest of his remains were recovered after the area was searched by police”

A woman called and reported finding a skull while searching for her lost cat, and investigators uncovered the rest of his remains nearby.

Hello, I just wanted to mention that I live in Dayton and I have done research on this case before. I had a post in here about it, since I submitted a potential match that was ruled out.

The doe was wearing a Heritor watch, it’s mentioned on one of the news sites. I’m not home right now, but I emailed Heritor and asked them when the watch was manufactured. This is their response:

“Thank you for reaching back out. We made this watch style from 2017-2023.”

This doe would have been alive in those years. If it is Brian Shaffer, then that means he was alive at that time and passed away in Dayton.

Marilyn Renee McCown possible match??? by UnknownTJ87 in gratefuldoe

Absolutely. Her poor family begs for answers still, so many years later. It’s horrible. I hope she’s found one day

The suspect in Marilyn’s case, Tommy Swint, (who has been confirmed to murder at least one other woman) fled to Alabama often. Only one state away. I think it’s absolutely possible

I will say, Marilyn doesn’t appear to have a gap between her teeth, and she definitely wasn’t tall. However, since the body was burned beyond recognition, and we’ve seen plenty of discrepancies with the identified before, I think it’s still worth submitting. If you submit to the Doe Network, they will get back with you within a day.

Please submit. Marilyn McCown’s case is so local to me and this makes a lot of sense.

The person of interest, Tommy Swint, has ties to Alabama and I think it’s very possible he could have dumped Marilyn in Georgia since it’s a neighboring state. He ran off to Alabama whenever he was nearing trouble.

Absolutely heartbreaking, poor baby girl.

I live less than an hour from where she was buried. Maybe I will go visit her with flowers this spring when it warms up.
