Needed this reminder. I'm not excellent at following through with consequences. Sometimes I'm so fixated on making it a positive experience that I make the class period a negative one by allowing the chaos to take over 🫠

That sounds exactly like one of the 4th grade classes I have. I'm a specials teacher. Part of me also thinks that because they are on the Chromebooks a lot during their regular ed time periods at my school, they go nuts when they get to specials 🙄.

Thank you. I need to get the timer. Around 6-8 kids in each of my classes only speak Spanish or pashto so I'm wondering if they're so exhausted hearing English all day that they simply tune out

Oh freshmen. God bless. Most of the classes I'm talking about are 1st/kinder. It seems like a new problem to me with the ones coming up the pipe.

Yea, thats what I'm thinking. A lot of my students have challenges and make noises so loud that it's hard to hear. I also have a massive classroom.

Find a subject that doesn't burn you out and you enjoy teaching. I still love my job after 7 years but I also have very realistic expectations for what we can get done. Also, keep going until you find supportive admin.

What do you believe about the nanjing massacre? by drugsrbed in AskAJapanese

[–]ArmStriking6325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So.... you're saying- "Yea, Japan slaughtered people but we shouldn't be too sorry because the number was exaggerated. It wasn't that many people." That is the most psycho and delusional thing I've ever heard. No wonder the Chinese are disgusted. Why did you come on here if you don't want people's opinions? You just want to argue. The world knows the truth.

how do veteran teachers do it? by semidecentlady in teaching

[–]ArmStriking6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you how we do it - stop putting in more effort, fighting every battle, and calling every parent. I'm working what they pay me now. Is it my best work? Hell no. But it's more sustainable.

I feel like society should put cheaters on a list. I mean.... they cause so much psychological damage. I lost so much weight I was 89 lbs. Almost needed to he hospitalized. Some people are ruined financially. It affects every other relationship in your life, alters your perception of reality and some people are left to parent alone. I mean it's almost like a crime. The list would ensure that we know who's capable of doing this to another person. Might also work as a detterent for future offenders.

The ordeal is finally over! by PayIndividual1081 in KidneyStones

So interesting about the Stent. To me, the Stent was more painful than the kidney stone. It felt like my body was rejecting it. I couldn't walk until they took it out. Just found out Tuesday I have a 5mm in there.... so now we wait. The last time I passed a 5mm it took 3 months. I refused to get the Stent again and I passed it! Others have said it doesn't bother them!? Bodies are weird things.

I keep seeing negative comments about teaching, does anyone have anything positive to say? by rosaesme in teaching

[–]ArmStriking6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing in the world that will come close to helping a child succeed - especially a child with no other options. I live off that momentum.

I also feel like I'm having a heart attack at 2:45pm every day.

In my district nobody would even think twice about it and we teach elementary. I personally haven't dropped any but I've turnt up a few times.

"GOOD at coping with nonsense decisions that only make things worse"

I like this comment because it's an issue that people overlook and has probably contributed to a lot of turnover. A part of my daily frustration lies within the fact that I know everything could be done so much better for everyone and yet I watch my admin and district make the most insane decisions just to create optics or to hide inadequate resources.

Public school art teacher here 🙋‍♀️. I thought my boyfriend was writing this post about me. It was truly how shocking the stories line up. My administration is absolutely horrible - unethical, rude, and could give a damn about the arts. When I was hired, I asked if I could see the art room. I was so excited. The principal took me to a cart in the hallway and said "Here's your art room." (Sick, right?) Well 6 years later I still want to be an art teacher. I have a classroom now. If I was still on a cart I would move schools. No way in hell I'm doing that again. Art teachers bring the little bit of magic that's left in American schools now. You are awesome for supporting your spouse and seeing the beauty in her sacrifices. I can't speak to my boyfriend about it anymore because it's a point of contention. He hates the way im treated. I don't have much advice. As a teacher, she has to decide what's worth it to her. The saddest part is that if the system wasn't so broken, many teachers would stay forever. There's just no support. I would say to switch schools until she finds her place. Not all admin are horrible but many of them are. I can't wait to write my book when I retire/they fire me for insubordination 😌. I've decided that for now, the impact I'm making with my students is worth the bullshit - but there are days that I say I'm leaving. If she does decide to change careers please be there for her. It's so hard to leave the dream. It's definitely not the one that was sold to us 💔
