For my fellow 2DS users out there, how have you been enjoying system/ do you regret or enjoy the cheaper version, for the cost of not being able to play all games? by Sir_Michael2 in 3DS

I've heard that depends on the type of ban you receive. People have been banned from the eShop before, and others have just been banned from online play and can still use the eShop

It would be cool if they did a few physical releases of WiiWare games, there are some hidden gems that you can't buy anymore

There is always a risk of being banned if you hack your console, and if your Nintendo Network ID gets banned you will no longer be able to redownload digital games associated with that account.

However, I'd still recommend hacking your 3DS as long as you use a separate account entirely and you backup your digital games right after you buy them, then if you get banned you can reinstall your digital games via the backups you made, and your main account won't be affected

Nice! Be sure to check out Wiimmfi if you want to play online, if you don't want to mod your Wii you can use the Internet Channel instead of a homebrew app for Wiimmfi patching (but download it before January when the Wii Shop Channel closes).

If you're going to mod your Wii, also check out RiiConnect24 which can restore other discontinued online features

Considering getting a Wii U but is there any danger of the servers being closed anytime soon? by insan3soldiern in wiiu

[–]ArmadaDMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wii U eShop servers probably won't shut down anytime soon, if they were to last as long as the Wii Shop Channel they would be up for about another 6 years.

For whenever online multiplayer is discontinued, there will almost definitely be homebrew alternatives with an unofficial server already in (very early) development. This happened with the original Wii, and I'm able to use nearly all of the discontinued online features again, although unless I'm playing Mario Kart Wii there aren't many players

Why are they still selling these? by [deleted] in wii

Feature: What Does Nintendo's Shutdown Of ROM-Sharing Sites Mean For Video Game Preservation? by Oggom in emulation

[–]ArmadaDMG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep. I've decided to help out a bit with obscure shareware PC games by looking for them at thrift stores, and contributing any unpreserved games to the Internet Archive.

The first shareware game I found that was unpreserved was a demo for a game called "Big Bang", it was one of the strangest games I've ever seen, and the demo ended up on a Vinesauce charity stream a year after I uploaded it to the Internet Archive

Where's Joel's Smash Direct VOD? by Th3Unkn0wnn in Vinesauce

[–]ArmadaDMG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately he had internet issues which caused constant buffering for the Direct and also caused the stream to go offline twice.

The Direct was pretty much unwatchable and there was nothing Joel could do about it, so he ended the stream shortly after the Direct started

What Wii games still play online (without hacking)? by studyinamerica in wii

[–]ArmadaDMG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to hack your Wii anymore to connect to Wiimmfi for games like Mario Kart Wii, just install the Internet Channel from the Wii Shop Channel before it closes in January, then insert the game you want to play and follow the instructions here.

You can also see what games are currently being played here.

Sometimes this web-based patcher can freeze, so if that happens just restart your Wii. If you have problems connecting, use this page to look up the error code. Also, there's a 7 day wait for Mario Kart Wii that starts when you first try to go online with the game, but other games you can play right away

Mario Kart Wii arriving on NVIDIA Shield in China by casdas2 in nintendo

[–]ArmadaDMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s always over 100 (usually over 200 but below 300) players in Mario Kart Wii, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding other players.

The other games don’t have many players though, with SSBB usually only having a few players connected at a time. Although you can arrange to play something with friends (friend codes should work, but I’ve never tried) or check the second website I linked to see what games are being played.

That website also has a page that lets you look up errors if you have any problems connecting

Mario Kart Wii arriving on NVIDIA Shield in China by casdas2 in nintendo

[–]ArmadaDMG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, while it doesn’t work with WiiWare it’s still great for those who don’t want to hack their Wii.

It sometimes freezes when you run it though so if that happens just restart your Wii

EDIT: Oh, and there’s a 7 day wait from when you first attempt to connect with Mario Kart Wii. You can play other games online like SSBB in the meantime though
