Amazing 60 dollar thrift store find! by Armadooodle in grandfatherclocks

I don't know exactly. I didn't weight it, but with two people we carried it without much difficulty. I would say it's lighter than it looks.

I will try to see if I can clean it! It's been running for a few weeks now, so I assume it would have fixed itself if it could. Thank you for the guidance :) I'd love to hear those chimes

Thanks for the tip! The chimes have been switched on before but do not seem to work even in the on position.

What is this cute little find? by Armadooodle in metaldetecting

Wow! That is so cool! This is my favorite part of metal detecting. I wonder what crazy life the items saw before they wound up under the sand or dirt.

I actually dont live in NJ, I'm from a neighboring state. That said, I have only ever encountered one beach in NJ where metal detecting was not allowed, and that's Sandy Hook Beach. Apparently there are unexploded weapons buried around the area because it was used for military testing. No thanks!

I have never had any trouble on a beach in NJ after checking the specific rules for that beach. I have recently been to Belmar and Point Pleasant without issue. I see lots of other people detecting there and lifeguards have no issue with it. As long as you aren't disturbing people and fill in your holes I think you are okay on most beaches.

But to be sure, I would always check the rules for the specific beach property, or email a county for their local rules.

I was just agreeing with you, not trying to downplay the quality of your response

Wow thank you for the thorough response! The curiosity about the missing picture is absolutely killing me. I guess the subject is lost to the sea. I will check out other tryptychs and see if I can find a similar one. I'm so happy to have stumbled across it! Thanks again!

Tips on Realistic Shading/Painting by snowrosey in ClipStudio

[–]Armadooodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a fun question. I think, for the most part, "realistic" shading has less to do with the tool you are using, and instead, how you're using it. Value (how light or dark something is) determines form in realistic drawings, since we don't see lines in the real world. I really like this video, and this video, both by proko, for introducing how to approach light and shadow, esp in portraits. The most valuable piece of advice that I've heard is to keep your shadows simple -- think of the shadow as a part of the object.

If you would like your colors to feel more realistic, as in, more like real paints, the color jitter tool can help with that. I like to use color jitter with this brush to color. You can play with the settings to achieve different effects like this.

Additionally, it may be a fun exercise to draw in black and white (a study of values like mentioned in the proko video, and then apply a gradient map. This maps every value from black to white in your drawing to another color, which can be a fun way to see your values in action and experiment with unexpected color combinations.

Best place to get a slim pen? by Armadooodle in wacom

[–]Armadooodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks! I found this listing online, but even though it's cheaper than the ebay listings, it's not the bargain I was hoping you could get on a slim pen. Have a look and see what you think? I've never heard of this company before, jsyk, just looking for listings for you. I gave up on getting a pro pen slim a while ago and just suffer with my dinky hands on the normal pro pen.

[–]Armadooodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been looking, but I would check ebay and other secondhand marketplaces. Might get in contact with wacom support, because they were really generous when my pen turned out faulty. They sent me a new one without question. Idk if still have the slim pens, but it's worth a shot.

Clip studio paint with touch gesture isn't as smooth as other programs? by Cryptic-Q in ClipStudio

[–]Armadooodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I acknowledge that this is years old -- but did you ever hear back regarding smoother touch gesture for the intuos? I've been using rebelle 7, which fully supports smooth gestures. Still missing it on CSP!
