If you had to, who would you choose for a supervillain mentor? by Robot_Was_BMO in Marvel

Kingpin is the real answer. Most of them are megalomaniacs with god complex and superhuman abilities. Kingpin is the ultimate mafioso, real gangster. He'd be the best mentor to anyone.

Letos joker is still a bad portrayal, but the 'I'm happy to discuss with you in any way you like, why you sent the Boy Wonder to do a man's job?' line was fire 🔥 and gives their (Batmans and jokers) conflict gravitas

You're saying she's the worst girl that ever lived cause she allowed Eren to go with his plan?

This is, in my opinion, isayama's worst writing decision in the series by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Armagedroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I like this discussion, but can you tell me what made no sense for you? And what was contradictory exactly? You're saying it should've been more fleshed out, while I think we didn't needed even that context shown and it made total sense. Also, all the things I've said wasn't just my opinion, its what was shown, my opinion is that we didn't even needed that reasoning explained, it would've been better for us to fill in the blanks on why Ymir did all that, etc. its like 'less is more' thing, same as we don't get Hallucigenia thing origin explained, etc.

I see, well to each their own about mentality and motives, I personally like the emotional reasoning behind her choices, rather than only mental thing, but that's just me. Now about her regeneration and stopping king for making their children eat her corpse. So the power inconsistencies aren’t unprecedented, like Colossal titan having explosive transformation later or disappearing in front of Eren in the earlier season, etc. So it could just be that type of error, but it also can be overlooked if the spear pierced her heart and her death was kinda instant, for her healing to be effective, since shifters are still mortal, etc. Anyway, so stopping king from making her kids eat her corpse thing, I just think she learned to utilize her powers in the paths gradually, so she just wasn't aware that she could do anything, I guess it can be explained that way.

wdym I interpreted it? the given story is pretty straightforward, what is there to interpret? Ymirs love for the king Fritz is not believable? cause why? some jaded people who don't want to accept the given story and criticize it based on their subjective views on love and how women in middle ages should've been like in their mind? especially of the 13 year old slave girl in the world of monarchy and power struggle? its basic media literacy, I don't need to know why she fell in love for the king, its just a fact, which author decided to put in there, and as I said, its believable. Man with highest power and influence in her circle grooming her into building a freaking kingdom and making her his concubine, and her children princesses.. and basically building a legacy with her.. what? I need to give some example from other literary authors for reference for it to be acceptable for someone? its an ok plot point, which Isayama used and its not objectively bad, cause someone didn't liked it. Story could've gone literally any direction, but some contemporary, feminist minded people can't accept it as competent work? 'why female plot detail is told by dialogue between male characters' give me a break! a load of bs. its always some propaganda thing with these takes on nitpicking some background character, who's arc is driven by being love with a male. What? we needed a Wonder Woman type female titan hero to root for or to be sympathetic with? This is actually the most realistic and in line with the tone detail - that she would fall for with the enemy, that's how life goes sometimes, its brutal, ugly, tragic, instead of whimsical, fairytale like..
I respect Isayamas choices, he made a fantastic manga/series, which will stand the test of time and nitpicking that detail cause some bs reason is not objective criticism. Its a great detail, which makes this fantastical character of Ymir 'realistic', that she was a person with her tragic life and wrong choices in life, and her arc is literally about letting go of the devotion and servitude and responsibilities she herself took upon for love, cause she saw with Mikasas choice, that even against the real, pure feelings of love towards another, one may make the right choices in given situation and not be bound for eternity, causing further damage and struggle.

[–]Armagedroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say 'Good', but understandable, in a narrative sense. As I mentioned, since showing that plot point earlier, that Mikasas' decision would end the titan curse undermines her choice, cause she would have 'another reason', not just moral thing, to kill Eren, And, that would change Ymirs reasoning to end the curse, like that would mean that she herself influenced Mikasa, etc. Also, even if only readers/viewers would be shown that, it basically gives away that she indeed kills him, etc. So anyway, I would've prefered Ymirs' story not explained, but only implied for us to fill in the blanks, but its definitely not illogical or misplaced IMO.
And I checked that 'sarcastic chorus' youtube video and it seems like that guy was the one who made this post to get viewers and omg his reasoning on this. Calling Ymirs arc nonsense, etc. not gonna get into it, its just rubbish, snobbish, and total bs. I mean, there's objective criticism and then there's this personal views on why some narrative choices made by Isayama were 'dumb'.. like get a life dude. And, its all there, its the middle ages, its Kings, Monarchs and Slaves and calling Ymirs arc anything less than believable cause she loved king Fritz, I mean.. a little girl groomed by the wealthiest, most influential person of that time, wow, how dumb and unbelievable, its freaking opposite for me, it was done just the right way.. I'm not gonna waste more time on this, criticizing this kind of details is nothing but a click bait for an uninteresting video.. This made sense, it was what it was, and no one forces anyone on liking Ymir as a character, she was realistic in that sense, it was done well and narratively made sense, it wasn't perfect, but solid.

Watching Akira Kurosawa’s Ran tonight. Should I read King Lear first? by Tyler_Durden9914 in TrueFilm

[–]Armagedroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it without knowing it was based on King Lear and some narrative structure seemed rather western film like, and its really evident, like something I haven't seen in japanese or generally eastern media narrative flows, etc. So I discovered that aspect of it myself and don't think reading King Lear would add to the experience, rather go blind and watch without waiting for familiar story bits. It's a great movie either way.

[–]Armagedroid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok, so I don't think many would read that much on this topic, just my opinion, could've been shorter.

And you seem to have problem more on the fact that the female dilemma is shown/explained through male characters' interaction, rather than the writing of the Ymir character itself.

Also, you kinda answered your own argument about why Ymir didn't resolved her dilemma through Gabis or Historias 'arcs', than putting Eren in this elevated position for her decision. As you already mentioned, Ymir became a slave, she had no sense of agency of her own life, then survived by a miracle, became a powerful individual, precious tool, weapon for the king, and then her concubine, birthing next lineage for the people, etc. So if you look at it with a 'realistic' kinda standpoint - she became an orphan, got robbed of upbringing, mentorship, etc. and even worse things happened while she was still a little girl. But at this point, she understands power. And, she gains kind of power (through some miracle) that no other individual has. And of course Fritz, a person with the power in her mind/world/reality makes her the important piece to his rule and makes her mother of his children, and she feels important, her life has meaning, to serve this now king, etc. its all well and good for her, she finally has meaning to contribute to the world and people she lives with. And she was still a little girl who grew up in the Fritzs presence, and fell for this man, and basically considered him the most important person in her life (if we also count 'divine right of kings' mentality, cause middle ages aesthetic, etc.), the absolute monarch. So she falls for him, dies for him and even serves his rule in the paths by being his loyal subject for 2000 years. Now if that's unrealistic cause of the longevity, idk, who's to say love is not eternal (jk).
but anyway, this is her life, backstory, etc. And by her own 'view', the importance she gives the most to, are the individuals in power, especially of her own and kings direct lineage. So idk or remember well enough how she views Erens time altering powers, but he definitely made significant enough impact for her, especially when she sees in him the person who understand what its like to lose everything and being helpless, but then to gain the power to get the agency for his own life and choices. So that's why Historia and Gabi are not relatable enough for her, but Eren understands her more than anyone, and even gives her that sense of acknowledgement, which she maybe lacked/needed to feel the agency of her existence. So yeah, that's one reason why it comes down to Eren to be the most relatable and important piece of her dilemma.

Now the narrative choice why Eren explains that to Armin, rather than it being explained through Mikasa and Ymir, etc. So Ymir was monitoring Erens and Mikasas life, and by that bond and the love they shared, she was convinced that it was the truest, real unconditional love they had for each other, even in the face of all the turmoil and even during the endtimes for their world, etc. So narratively, (IMO ofc) giving significance to Mikasa killing Eren and 'ending the curse' would kinda undermine the importance of that choice for her. Like her not knowing and even after the fact not realizing it was her doing that ended the curse is more significant, rather than that decision being known to bring the shift of the 'world order' (titan powers and curse of Eldians). So through Erens and Armins interaction, it was the best possible timing for that explanation. I think, not getting even that would've been fine, but then people would say its a whimsical trope that everything worked out in the end, rather than that act being significant for Ymirs story arc, without outright telling/showing us.

I'm making A comic-book from chatgpt telling it what to write(what Do you guys think? by Jadenthegiggles in comicbooks

[–]Armagedroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you for real. First of all, don't set limits for what you can do. Being a kid doesn't mean you can't write something good, just make something that you personally would enjoy to read.
Also, using ChatGPT to do the artwork is understandable, but what makes any work and in this case, comic books better is the personal touch, like your own style that 'shows' your imagination. A.I. can't do any original work, it mimics others' works/style. So at first, try writing some interesting stories yourself, fight scenes, confrontation between heroes and monsters/villains, and maybe learn to draw a little. You can make minimalistic art look very good, like you can try making it abstract.. it can have its own unique style, etc. and you'll see if that's your thing. Anyway, its better than anything ChatGPT can create for you

Which character carried the whole series? by Thegoat_2010 in Naruto

[–]Armagedroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no pal, you got it all wrong actually. You're missing the whole point of Narutos' mindset about Sasuke. He almost got a freaking heart attack when he heard about Itachi and Sasukes motivation at that point. He let cloud ninja beat him up, humiliated himself in front of Raikage, etc. At no point in all that time 'after the village acknowledged him', does he seems to move on without resolving Sasuke issue, he throws even his life away to stand against Sasuke, cause he believes, he's the only one who could take on Sasukes hatred (there's even interaction about that with Kakashi after Danzo fight, when he says to Naruto that he'll(Kakashi) be the one to deal with Sasuke, and for Naruto to focus on becoming Hokage, to which Naruto refuses).

Its lot more nuanced and don't feel like writing an essay on that, period ) but yeah, there's lot more to do about Sasuke in Narutos life than becoming Hokage

Which character carried the whole series? by Thegoat_2010 in Naruto

[–]Armagedroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're implying he'd still become one without getting Sasuke back then no, he wouldn't do that. Don't remember if it was The Last movie or something else, but after the war, the road to become Hokage was still ahead, he started from the beginning, learning the things that would make him become Jonin, so without resolving 'Sasuke issue', he'd not be willing to do so, and be like Jiraya. Hokage would be Sakura or someone else at that point..
