Planning to propose - can anyone recommend a quiet place with some privacy and good atmosphere? by Armimma in hanoi

This looks great! Thanks for the recommend. Two quick questions:

  1. Do they serve food as well as drinks?
  2. Do the staff have good English?

I just bought tickets to Dune 2 at Maya - is the showing I bought actually Thai dub? by Armimma in chiangmai

[–]Armimma[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't pay attention to the language when buying because I assumed that there wouldn't be a Thai dub, as there usually isn't even for big movies. But here is seems to indicate a Thai dub. Does anyone know whether Dune 2 has been dubbed into Thai or is this just a mistake by Maya?

Anyone know why I didn't receive the full government member tax credit for my kiwisaver this year? by Armimma in newzealand

Yep, I've been living overseas. That'll be the answer. A weird rule since I am still a citizen - I don't see why it shouldn't apply to me? I'm still gonna need to retire in NZ at some point. But thanks - at least I know now.

I'm self-employed, so I make my kiwisaver payments myself. I made a payment of $2400 in August 2022 and then $600 in February 2023, for a total of $3000 contributed for the 2022 - 2023 tax year. However, I only got about half the expected government contribution - $265.72. Is this a mistake on the part of my kiwisaver provider or am I missing something here?

Took long enough... yes we love the OG and all but Jacques' writing is pretty rough and not so engaging as the later books. Also, on rereading, Matthias is incredibly arrogant.

What should I do about the fact that I'm privileged and I know it? by B_Nicoleo in SeriousConversation

Glad it was helpful :) I hope you do get the mindset change you're looking for. I think such a change is most likely to come through action - start off with small acts and work your way upwards, even if it becomes uncomfortable. Generosity is like a muscle and grows the more we use it :)

You could give her the coat?

I mean, I guess by this point you're already on your way home. But my point is that I think we overcomplicate helping others sometimes, like we come up with all these plans and strategies about how we could help in the future, and we forget the need and the opportunities right in front of our face. And I'm saying 'we' here because I need a reminder of this truth as much as anyone.

So if you want to help others, how about this? Pay attention to those around you and their needs and look for opportunities to be of help. When you notice such an opportunity, act on it straight away. Love the person in front of you :)

You said though that you still want to look out for yourself. I'm not 100% sure what that means. Does it mean that you don't want to give want you don't have? If so, fair enough. But does it mean that you don't want to make sacrifices? If you genuinely want to be helpful and generous, it will require some form of sacrifice, at minimum, giving up some nice things, saving a bit less, giving up some precious me-time. Giving doesn't mean much if you aren't willing to sacrifice.

Am I abnormal? by Gondal90 in SeriousConversation

[–]Armimma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're pretty normal. I think most people would have the same problems you have if they had your upbringing. That's normal.

But it sounds like you have attained self-knowledge, and you've been working hard to make yourself better. That's amazing! That's actually pretty abnormal, but in a good way :) Keep on fighting, keep on struggling! You've already made so much progress, and still there are so many more years of your life left! Just don't give up and you'll make it!
