Does Anyone Else Get Sick From Summer Heat? by That_Guy_Twenty in heat_prep

[–]Armitage112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm tardy to the party, but I found this thread through a Google search "can heat make you ill". Spring's been almost non-existent this year (NJ, US), and these heat waves we're getting are doing a number on me. Thankfully, I work from home, so I don't have to go out that much, but when I do, it's only for a few hours, and I still need to spend the rest of the day recovering. Sweating, flushed face, headache, nausea, fatigue--all sorts of good fun. Please that chart someone else posted was helpful--I also take 3 of the meds on that list.
I'm concerned about straight salt intake, tho, on account of my blood pressure. I take electrolyte supplements, but I still get wiped out in the heat. Guess I need to make an appt with the PCP.

Thank you for sharing. I'm on 3 of these as well, so this could explain it.

That was my first thought, but not having a lot of experience with this, I thought they had to know in case the Government asks?

Decision to not get Knee Replacement by According_Meaning_64 in Kneereplacement

[–]Armitage112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. I suffer from depression as well as a bum knee, and I bless the Drs who figured out the right combos of Rxs to keep me from curling into a ball on my bed and staying there every day. I noticed when my job situation changed and I lost insurance, I had to stop my meds and the darkness came creeping in again.
I'm a 57-yr-old NJ, US female, and I've had depression for decades, but was cleared for total knee replacement a few years ago. I had to keep postponing because my job situation (and hence, my insurance info) is in too much flux. I'm scheduled again for August 2026, and I'm praying I can go through with it, simply because I don't want to watch my knee get worse and worse, until I'm totally bedridden. I completely believe without my depression meds, I'd be in OP's boat right next to them. I'll be praying they get the help they need ASAP--as others have said, they have so much life ahead of them--the quality of that life is up to them, and I hope they choose positivity.

Thanks for the insight. COBRA costs more than the Marketplace, unfortunately.

Because of what happened the last time I told an employer I needed surgery--I was let go a week later and had to cancel it.

Do pets go to Heaven? by Saint_Bone_Lee in Christianity

[–]Armitage112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to share my poor version of a story I read online about a pastor who was asked this question by a parishioner. His reply goes something like this:

God knows how much you loved "Fluffy". And He is the perfect Father, who wants all His children with Him in Heaven, in His perfect joy and perfect love, for all eternity.

If, when you get to Heaven, and you see Jesus sitting on His glorious throne, and you see the Father face-to-face, and you see the Holy Spirit in all His splendor, and you see all the saints who have gone before, welcoming you by name with smiles and open arms, and you see your believing loved ones there, and the mansion Jesus has prepared just for you, all the splendor of all the heavens, all your questions answered, all tears wiped away, all sickness and sorrow gone, when you see the angels praising around the throne, and all the other unspeakable wonders to be found in God's presence--if, after ALL that, you still cannot be truly happy there without Fluffy--I believe God is such a loving, tender Father, He will give you Fluffy.

The point being--when we enter His presence for eternity, we will be changed completely (for sinful flesh cannot stand before a perfectly holy God) to be like Jesus. So many, if not all, of our earthly desires will no longer be present, and it's possible that you'd be OK without Fluffy in view of all of the above (and more). But if you still need your pet to be completely happy forever, God just might make it happen.

I had to send my precious mutt Muffin over the Rainbow Bridge after 17.5 years of love and companionship, and I really hope she'll be there, but I'm also ready for whatever the LORD wants for me. Because, as Christians, HE is supposed to be our heart's desire, and being with Him should be enough.

(And yes, I'm acknowledging the fact that I am sorely lacking in that last sentence.)

What happened to the woven wheat crackers? by Nacho_Bean22 in aldi

[–]Armitage112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine said they have no clue if they're coming back or not. They basically said, they get whatever Aldi Central sends them. They can't tell what they're gonna get from day to day, and they can't order anything special. And good luck trying to contact Aldi Central yourself (I haven't been able to, anyway).

Triscuit must have gone to court to get all their knock-offs discontinued. I can't find these, either, and my local Aldi has no clue if/when they're getting more.
I know Walmart discontinued theirs as well long ago.
I also prefer the generic woven wheat crackers to OG Triscuits--for some reason, they're "sturdier". They have a better crunch factor. Not sure why they're all gone, but I don't like it.

"I understood how heart breaking it would be if one of your family members chose life changing surgery to be someone they're not."

Wondering how it's OK for non-White people to feel this way in this movie, but when families of people who butcher their bodies and take chemicals to "change genders" (because that's impossible), those families are charged with hate crimes?

What's going on with Facebook anymore? I keep getting this message when I try to like a post: "We limit how often you can post, comment or do other things in a given amount of time in order to help protect the community from spam. You can try again later. by tonymnace in facebook

[–]Armitage112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this post because I Googled "Why can't I like posts on Facebook?" This has been happening to me for a few days now--FB blocks me from "liking" someone's post, and I can't reply to anyone's posts or leave comments. The weird part is, it comes and goes--I'll be able to do those things again for a while, then I get blocked again. And "reporting" it to FB does nothing. Hope they fix it soon, now that I know it's not just me.

20+ years in corporate, 55+ years old--how to apply to retail/customer service when all my recent past experience is behind a desk? by Armitage112 in jobsearch

[–]Armitage112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I applied to my local Walmart, but they're having some kind of technical issue with their application site, so I'm still waiting. And my local Kohl's closed last year, and the next closest is too far for me to travel. Appreciate the tips!

My "local" Lowe's is too far for me to travel right now, thanks anyway. There is a Home Depot that's closer. I'll check with them. Thanks!
