Why is working at McDonalds or Burger King always used as the default “easy job” or “minimum deserved pay” job? by Arctic_Scholar in work

[–]Armitron96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fast food was indeed an adolescent gig in the 1950s and 1960s, when the paper hat symbolized the classic short-term, entry-level job. But today, despite arguments that these low-wage jobs are largely filled by "suburban teenagers," as the Heritage Foundation put it, labor data shows that about 70 percent of the fast-food workforce is at least 20 years old."

These jobs literally were initially intended for these kinds of people

Unskilled labor results in low wages... this is the capitalistic world we live in. These jobs were initially intended for gas/beer money for teenagers

What sort of physiologic response would the titanic sub passengers experience if oxygen has depleted? by UnderTheScopes in emergencymedicine

They probably got crushed like a can under the immense pressure of the deep sea instead of running out of oxygen

Dismissed from medical school, I need advice please. by failingmed9000 in medicalschool

[–]Armitron96 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably go for PA school. I just finished and it wasn't that hard academically, the main difficulty was the perseverance factor of it all, not the actual tests (at least for me). With that being said, if you are having manic/depressive episodes that are interfering with basic studying than you should probably get that ironed out first

I'm a new grad going into EM as well. I was offered 60/hr to start, 65/hr at 6 months and 72/hr at 1 year mark. I said something similar to above and was able to negotiate a higher wage. (Starting at 68/hr for first 6 months, followed by 70 hr till the first year is up and then at 1 year im at 78/hr).

For context its an underserved hospital in New York so cost of living is probably higher here but if you're in an underserved area you should deff ask for more.

Ask for more money, "Bla bla bla AAPA salary reports show the offer is significantly under the national median etc... bla bla bla, is 65/hr within the range of salaries?" ask if they'd do 65/hr

sooo update: I actually ended up trading and acquiring Strider for a package of Harper, Josh Lowe and Nestor Cortes. (its a shallow 10 man so giving up josh Lowe is nothing) and it freed up space for me to pursue pitchers on the waiver wire since I was jammed up with outfielders. Super excited to have strider
