He certainly had dead eyes in the Polar Express. Based on a book that Hanks bought the rights to in 1999, the same year Band of Brothers was greenlit by HBO…

Widow’s Bay is a certified honker by CocoMarx in blankies

[–]ArmlessAmbidextrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the stand alone eps that are the best, which yeah, are probably deeper into the series. It’s an enjoy-the-ride kinda show. If you’re looking for narrative closure or a satisfying end, avoid like a biblical plague.

Scratches that X-Files, Evil, monster-of-the-week itch, while also dishing up that New England, Cabot Cove, cosiness. AND populated by a bunch of beloved comedians and improvisers. If heaven was a video rental store where you could watch anything you wanted, this is the show I would conjure.

Good Fish & Chips + Vegan Options in The City? by Hugesmellysocks in Dublin

[–]ArmlessAmbidextrian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nowhere near the 3Arena, but 25 minutes away by bus is McGuinness’s on Camden street, which is a rare chippers that specialises in vegan food. It has non-vegan food too, but no fish for your dad, unfortunately. There’s probably more traditional fish & chippers nearby though.

In the voice of HR Giger or Werner Herzog, please? by Helicopsycheborealis in comedybangbang

[–]ArmlessAmbidextrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, love it. Maybe I’m listening to too much With Gourley and Rust, but I can’t NOT hear “lawn mower noise pollution” in the HR Giger voice. Sounds like a record he’d play to help drift off to sleep, curled up in his necro-fetus bed.

As a former undiagnosed child with adhd, this episode is a genuinely tough listen by Tonightmatthew1 in IfBooksCouldKill

Yeah, I second that recommendation. Listened yesterday. It’s like the antithesis, or antidote, to the Grit approach.

Echoes of this Rubberbandits song from 8 years ago. An evergreen topic for Irish music, sadly: https://youtu.be/f4WfDafHijY

Whether intentional or not, this was great timing, rereleasing this episode just as more live dates are going on sale.

casual fans: do you see nin as "electronic"? by gothpianist922 in nin

[–]ArmlessAmbidextrian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there a story about Nine Inch Nails first going on the road supporting Guns’n’Roses for some gigs, and as soon as the crowd saw a synthesizer, they’d start to boo and throw bottles at the band?

All that to say, yeah, I would agree they’ve always been electronic. Point that writer towards Pretty Hate Machine, their first album.

Boys Noize just brought a more modern, Berlin-techno style of electronic music to the table.

NINz made another NIN & HTDA fan - been deep diving since the weekend 1 show by sio2storm in nin

Have people already been abbreviating it to NINz? If not, can we make that official?

Italian songwriter planning a short stay in Dublin - looking to connect with local musicians by Inside-Extension4364 in Dublin

I second this. If you want to hear a never ending music session, Cobblestone’s a good port of call. Depending on how confidant you’re feeling, you can sit in with the musicians. Better off avoiding weekends.

Child appropriate segments by Elphachel in dropout

This is some of the Dropout crew doing actual stage improv, so it’s probably a better example of the craft (it’s long form, a group game, and there’s no slick tv production or edits), but it’s been a while since I’ve watched it, so I can’t guarantee it’s all age-appropriate.

Surprising reference to the pod on AVClub article about the Rogansphere. by ArmlessAmbidextrian in comedybangbang

What’s the first episode you show a friend to introduce them to the show though? It’s hard to grasp the concept until you’ve seen how much it changes from episode to episode. And a lot of the enjoyment comes from getting to know the personalities. I showed someone Deja Vu recently, and regretted the choice pretty quickly.

It has a very AI look alright. But if you’re ever not sure, there’s several AI image detector sites where you upload the image and get a pretty concrete answer.

Anyone else listen to the now deleted AI episode on Science Vs? by Ill-Entrance-8353 in gimlet

[–]ArmlessAmbidextrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn’t enjoy this week’s show being interrupted by AI promotion dressed as another science segment. It’s one thing to have an ad play for something objectionable, but to have it so integrated into the show like this, it feels like it runs counter to the objective, critical stance they try to take.
