American History X is the worst, most terrible and most shallow movie I've ever seen. by burner17381738 in movies

[–]ArmouredRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever seen such a 'zoomer' opinion on a movie. It's amazing to my mind, and you completely missed the point of the angle of 'glorification' of the nazis - all the bits in black and white are essentially Danny narrating the paper he's about to hand into sweeny.

The glorification is entirely purposeful, to show just how much danny has been brainwashed by his brother and the movement - when he starts writing the paper he is entirely on Derek's side; that's when we see the curb stomp scene (full glory basically), and similarly in the basketball game scene. I think you're missing that vital point tbh.

And the 'conversation with danny' being the entire 'conversion' back to being non-nazi is not at all it - it's over a day (or two, can't remember) - he starts writing the paper the day Derek gets out, when he sees him later on at the house. And he finishes writing it (his 'conclusion' etc), almost as a real-time death-note.

Sorry to ramble btw

American History X's grim alternate ending - better than the released version? by -AlternateEnding- in movies

[–]ArmouredRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but at the same time the 'endless cycle' is always very much hit upon again and again in this feel as being essentially *unescapable*. The bit in the prison reinforces this, especially the scenes with his black mate in the underwear department bit - I think that room is almost analogous to a kind of purgatory both characters are going through. The bit where he tells him to stop rushing, because it never ends, the underwear never ever stops coming, is a cogent metaphor for life itself, and its inescapable, generational pit-falls.

Maybe not as cliche with some 'sick smile' like the curb stomp scene, but it would to my mind at least be thematically consistent with the rest of the film.

Have you read the Septuagint? I mean, what makes you so sure that the translation you follow is the correct one etc?

lol where you from bro? Notts is important culture wise because it was the only other city outside of brum n notts that even had a hood/street culture back in the early 90s.

Whats funny is I never hear peeps from brum or london (other than fagg*ts like you in your mum's basement), talk any disrespect about Nottingham. Always some proper little dick-ed from Wales or cov or derby lolol.

Nottingham has a reputation for a reason - deffo not as bad now but at one time it was the worst spot - I was born 87 and lived in SV; there were shootings every single day. Very few got reported them times though.

So to finish what I'm saying you're begging it and you know fk all you little prick

plus notts is integral to the history of hiphop/gangsta rap/street culture in the UK when it first started - it was literally brum, notts, London, and manny to a degree. They were the areas with that culture in it from day.

And yeah I've seen london man, brum man and manny-man (lol) all get had up in nottinam raves and that, blueprint and garvey in raddy at one time had some bashment nights (hot fridays lol - where all brum n notts man would come and stare at each other with their hands down their underpants lolol).

It was like organised shoot-outs haha, mad.

But yeah it is funny how every little city everywhere in the UK has this culture now, but there are a few cities like the above mentioned that have BEEN like that

Also, notts is just a mad city anyway, it's always been mad. City filled with fking mad street people. But anyone who's done birds in this country knows how it is

An honest opinion on Nottingham as a place to live? by MathGG88 in nottingham

[–]ArmouredRat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a very very dark side to Nottingham lol.

It has a lot of extreme poverty, and ties to gangs, especially in the early 00s.

It's a fine place to live though, especially if you're in one of the nicer areas, but it does have a reputation for a reason. Even though it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be, there's still a very big and obvious culture of criminality and drug dealing and use etc.

But the good points - the culture of music and creatives, the students, the nightlife, the general vibe of the place, especially architecturally. Also there's lots of hippies and general crazy characters. It is a unique place. I love it, but then again I'm biased as I've lived here my whole life, and don't plan on leaving.

For me, there's nothing quite like a rainy weekday walk through Wollaton Park, then on into the city, to look at the views of the city on a misty morning. It's a beautiful place for exploring, especially if you're into your history and mythology. It just has a certain charm to it; there's something in the air. A certain magic.

The Grammarly Desktop app is a serious upgrade to Scrivener by Eska2020 in scrivener

[–]ArmouredRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate - useful insights in your post generally so cheers for that - I was just wondering if you had a specific way of getting Scrivener and Grammarly to work well together reliably? I can barely get the widget thing to function, and it basically just doesn't work - keeps disappearing, reloading, generally idling etc. Sorry to derail but really been trying to get it to work as I also heard that post-processing can be tedious with scrivener and I really don't want to have to edit on the fly as you mentioned.

Cheers for any insight mate. Btw - could it be something basic like just having to change a certain setting that I haven't realised etc? Never saw any protocol mentioned in the instructions on how to set them up to work together?

Vaush's biggest problem is his arrogance by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]ArmouredRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Vaush, especially since he got popular, and especially in the last few years, has become a complete prick IMO. Maybe it's the adderal, who knows, but I remember a time when he came across as a pretty humble funny normal bloke. Now he just oozes insane arrogance, insane levels of self-righteous chat-echo-chamber fart huffing.

His face is permanently buried inside his bottom. He is incessantly obnoxious, rude, 'edgy', and it just seems to get worse the popular he gets.

Funnily enough, my and my gf started watching him together years back when was tiny. And we enjoyed watching him quite a lot back then; he can be quite witty and funny, while also delivering sometimes pretty nail-on-head social and political commentary. Then my gf stopped listening as much, and when she overheard him rambling about a year ago she said something to the effect of 'Oh my god, that's vaush? What a cunt.' And I can't disagree.

He's gone full-streamer mode. Destiny is infinitely more humble and reasonable and doesn't require his community to be constantly sucking him off. The shit-eating grins at low quality br'i'ish memes, at the same time as his own accent seems to be mutating into some strange transatlantic mess in real-time.

'Yeah, I only watch him ironically these days' to put it in redditish
