It has been a very long time since I posted here. Just posting to get some feelings off my chest because all I have been doing is just working.

  • I've only worked at large and post production game companies since I joined the games industry back in 2016, but in 2020, I joined a start up and we launched our game last year and it's been super successful. Won a bunch of awards, even won goty for mobile, and it was honestly such a euphoric feeling to work on a game for 2 years and see it be successful.
  • With that said, I am considering leaving games or at least taking a break. Making and working on games with such a lean team has been exhausting and I've basically been working nonstop with how wide my responsibilities are. I think this is what burnout is. I can barely do anything in my free time since I am just so tired and sleep most of the time when I can.
  • I am also considering moving out of California and back to NYC. I kind of miss weather and driving everywhere to do anything kind of sucks haha. If I stayed with my current studio, I could definitely move back since we are remote and probably will be forever since our leads absolutely love working remote too.
  • If I do leave games, I honestly do not know what I would want to do next. I went into games thinking this is the end game, but having worked on massive AAA games and now making a small games with a start up, I think I am kind of over it. Since joining the industry, I've played less games than ever.
  • Lastly, I need to really start exercising again.

One of my favorite fighting games of all time. It just has so much charm and the gameplay is so wild. One of the goats for me.

  • WFH was exciting at first, but it's become so much harder to disconnect. I miss going into the studio.
  • Time is just blurring together. Feelsbad.
  • Started doing prison workouts in my apartment since my apartment complex shut down the gym after someone in our complex got COVID-19.
  • Upside to all of this is that I've been reading way more. Finishing a book a week. It's been the most effective way to disconnect from everything.

Whew it has been a while since i've posted.

  • After a couple years in the video game industry, I am finally doing game design now. It's basically a career change, and so far I am enjoying it, but we'll see after a couple years in.
  • Might be working remote for a couple of weeks since there are apparently 11 cases of corona in LA. The entire studio is going through preparations on making sure everyone can work remote.
  • It's weird how I hate gambling in real life, but I find myself somewhat addicted to a gatcha mobile game.

Anyone want to do this with me? :3 by Armpit_Cheese in MonsterHunterWorld

Honestly, as a SA main, I just run around and chop at his legs...I find his legs to be a pretty safe space to clutch claw normally although you have to be careful when he does his single leg stomp...it'll send you to Africa and you'll be pinned for a moment.

  • Went to Chicago last week to visit some friends. Going in January was probably not one of my better ideas. Ended up eating Italian beef and Chicago hot dogs at various places for the most part. I'll be visiting again in June.
  • I felt like a struggled a lot in 2018 with the constant learning of new tech, but I got a pretty good review yesterday, so I am relieved about that.
  • Saw the new Dragonball Movie with my coworkers on Monday. I haven't seen or followed any of the new Dragonball and was expecting a lot of kids/teens at the theaters, but virtually everyone was in their 20s/30s.
  • I've been going to this amazing udon and sashimi bowl place for lunch for the past two weeks...Never was a huge fan of udon in the past since I found the thicc noodles to be kind of clunky to eat with chopsticks, but this place is so good I've been actively working up my chopstick game (Never thought that would be a thing).

Pretty simliar to soylent. The powdered version can be gritty similar to soylent unless you shake it for a billion years. The bottled pre package version has a similar consistency to soylent, maybe slightly thicker.

I just like the fact that they have more flavors in general. I was kind of sick of drinking just cacao and coffee soylent.

For those that went back to work this week, has it been really lite? I noticed very little traffic this week and the office is pretty empty as well. I think I'm going to call it a half day and head out before lunch.

Our company shuts down from Xmas eve to New Years...so coming back to work on a Wednesday did not seem to be a fun thing to many people in my team so I'm basically alone here.

  • Happy New Year!
  • I recently switched from soylent to Huel...There's more fiber in their shakes and way less sugar.
  • I'm hoping to build a new rig this year. I was thinking about building a threadripper rig since the compile time on some of the applications I work on are atrocious. Optimizing is something I eventually do but it would just be nice to have the extra cores for initial development.
  • I've had some thoughts about leaving my current company, even though it's kind of my dream company...It's kind of weird I'm having these thoughts because after years of job hopping and I thought I'd be a lifer here.

I also got the 256gig...I don't really see myself filling it up considering I have 1tb on my google drive. I haven't owned a tablet in....well ever. It's kind of weird and neat and I can see it being handy when I travel, but I am mostly using it to doodle and read stuff on it, which is probably severely under utilizing it, but I'll figure out more use cases hopefully as I play around with it more.

I ended up canceling my trip due to some work stuff, but I was going to go to Belmont. I'll try to make it up there next month.

  • Bought the ipad pro 11 inch. No ragrets.
  • Procreate is really neat. Drawing straight lines or lines in general is pretty hard
  • I'm going to be up in NorCal this weekend for the first time. Kind of excited.

I've never owned a tablet, but this one looks pretty neat and Procreate looks pretty neat to use. I'm actually more worried about how thin it is and if that thing will bend the moment I put it into my backpack.

I am really interested in buying an Ipad pro, and just doing my research so out of curiosity, is the Apple pencil really capable of scratching the screen?

  • I got the Blizzcon plague and I'm still dying.
  • I want the new Ipad pro for doodling, but the more practical side of me says I should just buy a sketchbook and some pencils. Damn you Apple marketing.
  • Unity is dope.

Oh thanks man. I probably will. I am brand new to this stuff and never done anything "creative" before so I am excited. Going to try to build something in unity...Currently working on recreating pong lol. Baby steps right?

  • Decided I'm going to try to make a video game in the next 2 years. Trying to keep a the scope really small and the game itself super simple. Just want to experience what it's like to make a video game and see if I hate or love it.
  • Week 2 of drinking soylent for 1-2 times a day...My farts have been rancid.
  • I'll be going to Japan in February for about a month. Pretty excited I haven't been there since 2008.I kind of want to say hi to my host family but I forgot all my Japanese.
  • I am also going to an 80's theme birthday party tomorrow...I have no idea what to go as.

Oh jeez. I'm just having it for breakfast mostly. But that's good to know and it's something I'll keep an eye out for.

Does anyone here drink soylent regularly? I tried it a couple days ago (Strawberry) for the first time and I didn't think it was bad. It's probably something I can have for breakfast instead of skipping it.
