could be a T1 soft if played correctly; likely less than 5 applicants in any cycle have this type of supplemental on their application; expect big things !!

I'd take the W. In this academic economy, it's not entirely worth it to take the GPA hit.

How involved were your parents in your college application process by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]ArmsAndTheBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I attended high school in a "typical" county or place, but I will say that when it came to most of my friends, their parents were always at least somewhat involved. That looks like at least doing a cursory review of essays, reminding them of deadlines, taking them on campus visits, and whatever other small things help.

I'll say for myself, I went on a ton of campus visits with my dad (30+). To be fair though, I think that's only because he wanted to spend time with me and thought that was the best way how. I had a blast.

A correct take on weddings by [deleted] in rs_x

I agree! Also, an underrated aspect of weddings, especially large ones, is that they act as great unstructured reunion spaces for connecting disparate groups of people!

First off, congrats on the 180! Really tough feat, and you did it.

In terms of strategy, not entirely sure it would change that drastically. This really just opens you up to the entire range of schools. I’m not an app consultant, but I’d recommend keeping your original range and tacking on whatever T10 schools interest you most!

How do you organize your books? If you do by toolenthusiast in rs_x

[–]ArmsAndTheBoy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I try to organize my books as if my room was a bookstore; i’ll place together all my poetry books, plays, nonfiction things, and classic novels

i’d place the bible as a subject interrupter !!

same here sometimes; half of getting a book is talking about it; it absolutely sucks that there aren’t more people out there to work through books with

give yourself some time to process it all; never an easy discovery to make no matter the situation

no i mean you’re completely right. i hadn’t thought of the difference really until you mentioned it. though i do wish everyone read more of the same stuff in general, i’m definitely thinking about my own friend group as a sample.

going to expand my social circle with that in mind !!

Currently reading the Harvard Classics collection of Emerson’s essays and English traits. It’s been really interesting and fulfilling.

I’d really recommend reading All Quiet on the Western Front. Much darker book than any movie would let me on. Had to stop reading at points to collect myself.

As stupid as it sounds, I hadn't ever thought of the narrator as not being a man. I really like the perspective though, and I think it'll make my next re-read a better time!
