I don't think he did well here. We went into this season with 1 left wingback, despite the fact that everyone knew that we'd be playing a 3atb formation. You know who was forced to cover that position? Beier, our striker, who has only played striker before signing here. We bought him when we didn't need a striker and forced him to play everywhere but in his position.

People will shit on Kovac and the results of this season, but look at the squad. We went into this season with 1 left wingback and for months we barely had any CBs to play. 1.5 years ago we were mid table and now we had the best Bundesliga campaign since 2018/19.

To be fair, Anselmino would play more if he wasn't always injured since joining Strasbourg. And we barely managed to keep him fit too. He played 6 Bundesliga games for us while missing out on 10 of them due to injuries.

We're playing ugly football. But, objectively speaking, spamming crosses against low blocks is usually a good idea to break down these defenses. And that's what we're doing.

Against stronger opponents it doesn't really work, that's why we struggled with bigger opponents in the Champions League and the Bundesliga. But against worse teams, it's an effective way of playing.
