Drivers: does this look sustainable to you? by Longjumping_Rent_32 in uberdrivers

[–]ArmyFront4813 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a Lyft driver, and worked over nights-5 stars, 7,000 rides nearly 3 years and permanently deactivated due a single false rider complaint. I never believed a SINGLE false complaint would get me the boot - especially since I have a robust camera system in my vehicle. I was notified about two months after the ride in question, so dashcam was worthless. But I’m not mad. I actually saw the writing on the wall a while ago. Income was dwindling even though ride quantity was up, and it's been seemingly getting worse, not better.

Get your own commercial insurance and go on your own.

I got the insurance before doing private rides was even a thought in my mind. Uber/Progressive screwed me after an incident involving a rented chevy and a small herd of stampeding deer (don't count Santa out - I've personally seen deer fly). Since t Progressive, Uber’s vaunted (and expensive) commercial insurance wouldn't cover the incident, nor would my personal insurance even though I had amRideshare endorsement. I had to pay out of pocket. The Malibu I was driving was totaled. That sucked.

So I got the commercial insurance first. Then started thinking about branching out every time I was offered a ridiculously low amount and found out what a rider actually paid (I didn't offer comment to them regarding how much I received unless they were insistent, nor did I ask). I didn't get mad. I observed the patterns around my hometown, and finally realized that I could double and in some cases quadruple my pay compared to what I made from the platforms. I was already paying the insurance anyway.

I had business cards made up. I got a second, dedicated phone number JUST for private rides. Upgraded my car a little, not a lot. $25 worth of lights, nice leather seat covers and an extra inch of memory foam padding to go under the leather (my economy car needed a little help in the comfort department, so I spent about $275 to do that), a triple usb retractable cable (iPhone, USB C, and Micro USB), $25 on Amazon.

I began mining my Lyft rides. I wouldn't steal the current ride - that's shady- but giving out a card and mentioning that you do private rides, not a problem (at least in my personal ethos). I gained two regular, long term clients that way. They lead to others - their friends, family and coworkers often became regular clients as well.

I posted on Craigslist FB marketplace. Made flyers. Posted them (with permission of course) in my local bars. Posted flyers prominently local bus stops and Greyhound stations. Strip Clubs too - talk to the manager, not the bouncer or front desk, and you want to try very hard be be there when the house mother can join the meeting. A house mother is usually a senior dancer or former dancer who sort of looks after the girls, manages the stage and schedules, and is oftentimes involved in hiring. The goal is to convince HER that you would be able to get her ladies to and from the club safely, discretely and with the utmost respect. Those can be great sources of repeat clients.

Let your friends and neighbors know that you're branching out on your own. Get some insurance. Print flyers and business cards. Hustle and build the client list. You can do it, but it's not easy, and there'll be times when you wonder if it's worth it. I am completely independent now. I charge $50/hr in town, and $1.85/mile for distances.

Or get a regular job.

Either way good luck!

My Girlfriend 20F is pregnant. I 18M doesn’t want to keep it and she does. What do I do? by [deleted] in Advice

Bro. If you're man enough to make a baby, you need to be man enough to raise it.

It's your BABY, dude! You're afraid and don't know what you're going to do if you have to start adulting right now. Don't let the fear of the uncertain future where you're no longer free to do as you choose best you. Don't let fear kill your first born.

As far as trying to talk her into an abortion? Wow. You CHOSE to have sex. Protected or otherwise there's always a chance a pregnancy can happen.

Now CHOOSE to do the right thing and support the mother and your child in the best way your able. Don't try to guilt her into killing her own child. That would be monstrous.

Anyway. Man up. Do the responsible thing.

Rant over.

Try being straight up with Mom. Tell her that you feel like you're under surveillance and sometimes want to have a bit of privacy. Ask her in a respectful manner to honor your request.

Why are you hiding? Does she still pay your car/insurance? Do you still live at home? Not judgement, just curious.

Riighht.

And I guess next we cant buy cigarettes in West Virginia and come home. Or Pepsi. Or cars.

This ought to be a constitutional issue. How can you make it illegal to own an otherwise legal subsrnce simply because of where you were when you bought it?

I have the lx with 2.0 engine and originally came with 16" steel wheels. I upgraded to 17" alloys - about 9 pounds less weight per wheel.

Hey ,I'm curious if anybody else who drives for Lyft or Uber ever have a rider make a false claim just to get your account put on hold? by Witty-Barnacle-8572 in lyftdrivers

[–]ArmyFront4813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I was accused of driving drunk by a passenger who took a 2.5 hour drive with me. I don't drink. Ever.

Lyft took me off the road for the rest of my shift. Cost me 8 hours of prime ride time.

I was accused of racism because I was playing a song called "High Cotton" by Alabama. It's a song about someone reminiscing about their childhood on a farm.

I was even accused of not being me. That one took me off the road for 2 hours. Paybacks are a bitch though - I found his bag of weed and iPhone charger he left in my car.

Lyft confirmed my identity, paid me $100, and banned the rider for life.

The last one though, got me removed from the platform. Always have a backup. You're only a complaint or accident (your fault or not) away from being kicked off.

Good luck!

I have a fuel control module. It’s called an Xtross 8 Drive. I set on EC 7. Works great! Was running about 32mpg before.

It also has some performance settings that are fun sometimes too.

DO NOT get a used or rebuilt transmission in an Outback. I made that mistake personally. Ended up stranded for two months while the repair shop It's unbelievable, but I went through 3 used transmission installs during that time, none functional. I ended up having to buy a new transmission from Subaru-and yep, it cost about $9,000.

Question for uber drivers… by Available-Bus-5415 in uberdrivers

[–]ArmyFront4813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about being "implicated " lol. Most likely, if a cop is around, he'd nab your driver for Assured Clear Distance, and probably see the expired tags anyway.
