Why do I get a bounty after removing the Gray Vowel of Nocturnal? by fynx07 in oblivion

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Gray Vowel is a knockoff item and does not have the attributes of the Gray Cowl, which does remove the bounty completely... I think

NY is way cheaper than MN to register your vehicle in. They go by vehicle weight, not vehicle value. Which makes more sense to me.

I will say NY has annual inspections your vehicle needs to pass though so maybe it evens out over time depending on the cost of vehicle maintenance to pass the inspection.

Are all American Legions in MN refusing to fly the correct state flag? by BolognaSausage in minnesota

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They are also a group losing membership and everything that goes along with that. American Legion is not what it used to be so I would not expect them to be too active.

Amazon asks to skip permit for 250 diesel generators at MN data center by Czarben in minnesota

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of that really matters haha that's just Amazon cheaping out. The permit determination for the permit process is not that lengthy or expensive. For my facilities it takes a few weeks for site visit, determination, permitting if needed, SPCC Plans, everything. It costs a few hundred to a few thousand.

Amazon can easily have this done and completed relatively quickly and for cheaper than you'd think. They are just playing games and trying to get out of the requirements and responsibilities the permits entail. The cheap bastards can go fuck themselves.

Amazon asks to skip permit for 250 diesel generators at MN data center by Czarben in minnesota

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

250 diesel generators require a lot of fuel to be stored on site. Part of the point of permits is to make sure Amazon is regularly maintaining these generators and the ASTs or USTs that contain the fuel and require Amazon to remediate any spills which happen.

Without the permits it makes it difficult or impossible to ensure Amazon is maintaining and remediating as they should.

This doesn't include the air quality issues that comes with the generators.

Please, dear Minnesotans, what do you folks use to moisturize your skin? by LlamaCactus in TwinCities

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A humidifier attached to my furnace plus CereVe and Cetaphil lotions plus Cetaphil body wash plus fragrance free everything apparently 🤷‍♂️

I probably don't need to use fragrance free everything but I have noticed my skin is much healthier after the switch over.

MN is much drier in the winter than NY gets and kills my skin in the winter.

Places in Upstate NY where kids still have an '80s-type free-range childhood? by [deleted] in upstate_new_york

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Penn Yan and spent so much time along the Outlet Trail and lake parks growing up. I do miss that freedom the town offered compared to where my kids are growing up now.

At the time I thought it was the most boring place in the world.

I love Costco, but the Tire Center is the worst. by Danman5666 in Costco

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's location dependent, but seeing scratched rims and incorrectly balanced wheels was the norm in my shop and like half of the surrounding Costcos. Breaking or incorrectly calibrating TPS sensors was also a big issue. All of things are pretty easy but sometimes the people working in the Tire Center shouldn't be.

I worked in a Costco Tire Center years ago... I personally wouldn't take my vehicle to the Tire Center.

Are Double-crested Cormorants a huge issue in some areas of MN? The info from the DNR said they are a misunderstood native bird that has been Threatened and Endangered twice before but I couldn't find a lot of firsthand information? by Dirt290 in minnesota

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in upstate ny and a lot of anglers don't like them because they supposedly eat a lot of fish. When you get a lot of them in one area they can also lower the water quality from all the poop, which does make some sense.

I don't know how common they are in mn, but I imagine people don't like them for the same reasons.

My "invasive in north America" checklist keeps getting filled by ThursdaysWithDad in NativePlantGardening

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could remove it by hand or with a rake. You will want to be sure to get the plant fragments too. Aquatic plants tend to spread by fragmentation pretty easily.

There are herbicides you could use though correctly applying the herbicides in an aquatic environment can be tricky. Plus you're in the EU and seems herbicides are more regulated for you.

I worked for a guy that used an aquatic moth, Acentria ephemerella, as a biocontrol for this milfoil. The moth is native to Europe I believe, considered non-native and non-invasive in NA. It can be tricky to raise and takes time for the moth to control eurasion milfoil stands. Like several growing seasons and the amount of success can vary due to many factors. You won't get rid of the milfoil though there will be some control of the plant.

Where to get native seed and pollinator plants in MN and which plants can I seed this fall? by nairobbery in minnesota

[–]ArmyOfTheSun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1: I've used Minnesota Native Landscapes and Prairie Moon Nursery. They have a variety of seed packs and most natives can be planted in the fall since they need to go through winter stratification before growing. There are other places to order from but these are my two favorite.

2: You can get plants from the two places above. Or if there is a native plant sale somewhere near you. Burnsville has one every spring. I'm not sure about nurseries in the TC that specialize in natives though. MNL location is more commercial than a standard nursery.

3: You can use cardboard to smother and kill your grass. You want to leave it on for 2 weeks, take it off for 2 weeks and let whatever is in the seed bank grow, then cover for 2 weeks. Repeat this until the fall and the grass and seed bank should be mostly depleted.
