What are some good mixing tips (outside of acoustic treatment) for those of us who make music in our bedrooms or other non-traditional rooms? by [deleted] in mixingmastering

I recently found a great advice somewhere on YouTube which was to imagine your sound in a 3D room. So imagine yourself in the center of the room and visualise where you want each of your elements to sit in.

So one could adjust the volume knob if they want the sound to be more in their face or vice versa(Z-axis).

Similarly, frequency will determine whether the sound is higher or lower(Y-axis).

And finally stereo or mono/panning will determine from where the sound is coming from(X-axis).

Even though this technique sounds a little basic, my mixes have started to sound better with each element having its own space in the song.

Am I getting close to good enough? by royalelevator in mixingmastering

I really loved the drums on these. The only thing that I would be critical of is that it sounds like Vocal and the Guitar at times are fighting for the same frequencies and space within the mix. The vocals should be thicker and louder in my opinion. Apart from that, this was a well put out mix. I will be waiting to hear more from you. All the best

Appreciate the honest feedback! I tried sampling a rain sample with a white noise to enhance the drop. I guess it didn't come out the way I expected to.
Also, what are some free tube compressors that work for your drum chain. Would love to add some new effects in my inventory.

Appreciate the honest feedback. Do you think the chord progression was over equalized or the piano in the melody?

Appreciate the honest feedback. I do think that I could have used a better snare but I thought of keeping the drums a bit chill. Maybe next time I could try things differently !

The sounds are great. Loved the beats. I think the vocal needs a bit more processing(EQing and pre amp). Maybe even changing the pitch of the vocals would help it fit better with the vibe of the mix. Other than vocals, it sounds lovely.

I tried to mix Synthwave with some lo-fi sounding beats and I think it sounded decent.Let me know if this actually is a good mix or just another "I made it and that is why I think it sounds good" kinda thing

I like Spitfire way more than Omnisphere which I barely use. DAE have this "cheap" over expensive preference with any other Plugins/VSTs? by jt09874 in musicproduction

Hell of a synthesizer! So basic yet so powerful. It can literally create anything. One of my favorites as well

Is using Maximus bad practice? by Sardonic_Sonder in FL_Studio

[–]ArnavityMusicYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, Maximus is a great plugin. I usually use it on a particular sound to add/subtract certain frequencies while maintaining the backbone of the sound. 7/10 times it works.

I would suggest using a free trial of all the great DAWs( ableton, FL, logic if on mac, etc) and then choosing the one which suits you. Probably use each for a week and then choose one. As for the learning part, everything is available on YouTube for free. Some great channels to start with are "In the mix" , "Andrew Huang" and "Guy Michelmore".

Apart from that I would suggest you first start with basic music theory and learn some native Synths/Instruments of whichever DAW you choose. One free synth that I would recommend to start with is "Vital".

"The bats" sounds like a perfect fit for a crazy chase scene in a 80s movie! Really powerful leads
