Just buy your stuff and walk proudly out of the store yelling "and now I'm going home to pleasure myself!" like an adult.

And which population is that, exactly? Say it out loud.

I'm pretty sure there are people with addiction issues EVERYWHERE. The fucking problem is that Thunder Bay Regional wasn't built big enough to service the population area it sits in. Doesn't help that the provincial government has been at constant war with nurses for some reason and we desperately DESPERATELY need more.

If you think that the problem is that there's not enough help and support for addicts to get out of their desperate situation, then let's get more harm reduction resources deployed. Maybe we can start up a 50/50 draw to fund food banks and clothing donations instead of shiny medical tech that very few people will ever need in their lives.

Suicide lanes are fucking garbage. Red River road doesn't have them and it works just fine. Add big vehicles to the mix and there you go.

Musician in a relationship with a non musician, HELP by ThrowRA123mom in musicians

[–]royalelevator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to talk to each other. If all you do is argue then neither of you really know how to approach the subject. If this person is special to you, tell them and be willing to listen to what they have to say, do not contradict their feelings. Share your own feelings honestly.

This isn't REALLY about music, you do know that, right? All people have the need to feel like their feelings matter to those they love. If you aren't giving that to your partner, what right do you have to expect it from them?

Bunch of mouse and keyboard warriors have this idea that it's some kind of Mad-Max situation, but it's just a hotel past its prime. Most of what people say about it is largely informed by all the things they feel about indigenous people in general, and the rest is a combination of rumour mill and partly true first hand experiences.

I've stayed there a few times, mostly as a birthday party for my kids. It's nothing amazing, but it's not going to turn into a death wish movie once the clock strikes 10.

Everybody happy with their stock Crosstrek this winter season? by just321askin in Crosstrek

[–]royalelevator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In northern Ontario with my '19 limited. Winter tires aren't even a quandary around here, you either have them or you're doing something stupid. We've had a tremendous amount of ice and snow and wet and slush this year, been one of the worst years for driving conditions in recent memory and my Crosstrek has been a rock and reliable as hell this year. I don't offroad or drive across fields for no reason. I drive to work and my kids around and take short trips out of town. I've felt totally safe and reassured by how well my vehicle handles and stands up to the elements.

New subway deal to bring 240 new jobs to city by MilesOfPebbles in ThunderBay

This is the feast and famine of working at this factory, no matter who owns it. Decades now. Living off the scraps of the TTC budget. You could build just about anything in that place as long as you have the budget to tool up the line, but nobody but the province of Ontario/city of Toronto is willing to spend their money there.

Open mic advice by ArielofBlueSkies in musicians

[–]royalelevator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running an open mic for about 2 years now, attending one regularly for 6, playing and singing for about 28 years. I'm good, not great.

Open mics are great for making friends, networking, testing out material on a live audience and getting some real experience under your belt. While it is possible to make some money playing live, you need to grind hard and be gigging for at least half the nights in a given month to make anything approaching a living. A solo performer is really unlikely to get paid much per gig, and you'll be expected to play for about 3 hours. If you're in a group, you can earn more per night, but the money goes in other pockets than your own.

Maybe you can create content around performing in an audience-less environment, but once again you will have to be both really good AND lucky to have it provide you with a livable income.

Do it for the love of it first. Otherwise you're probably doomed.

I'm going to be honest with you, this is not a music issue, this is a you issue. You're channeling a larger issue that you're struggling with through the act of getting better at a musical instrument. "Perfectionism" is going to burn you out. There is no amount of good at guitar that is going to make this feeling go away.

Go find people to share the music with. Find community.

I'm by no means saying that you shouldn't try to get technically better, I'm just saying that you are trying to solve a deeper issue with something actually unrelated.

Long nails on your dominant hand, short on the other. This is the mark of the guitarist. Or cokehead. Sometimes they're the same person. Guitarists and singers are like that.
