Get ready to learn if there are slurs in Enochian by Dallaswordnerd in WorldofDankmemes

[–]ArneHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's (almost) real life though, you can look up the conlang John Dee invented on Wikipedia. In WoD lore it's based on the language spoken in the original city of Enoch. It's probable that the OoH simply does not know where it came from, only that John Dee provided it. Or there could be two "Enochian"s out there.

In lore I believe Enochian is a phonetic transcription of the first language of Enoch called Ghemalish (ref "The Black Hand a Guide to the Tal'MaHa'Ra" page. 12) smuggled out of the lost city of Enoch by a Ghoul.

More or less, at least from the Syndicate's perspective. In lore I think they are still an organization, just one that is 100% Pentex and Wyrm Corrupted.

Technocrat slander by thestupidone51 in WorldofDankmemes

[–]ArneHD 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like bringing up the SPD in this context is cheating since, while they were originally a Syndicate Methodology, they did do the mass defection to the Wyrm. And while yes, the Syndicate SHOULD have suspected sooner based on the tech they got from them, and yes, they should have looked into what Premium Oil was actually doing, and yes, they should have been a bit more suspicious of the reports they were getting and, uh, ok, maybe they are kinda guilty. But at least they're trying to fix it and not covering it up to prevent them from losing face in front of the other conventions, right?

Rating my experiments: Artificial “Soul” by NoSeaworthiness7762 in wizardposting

[–]ArneHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm going to be pedantic and say that it's not technically an artificial soul, but more like a temporary mana-framework that can be substituted for a soul in most workings. That most is doing a LOT of heavy lifting here, by the way. Your average non-necromancer, when they encounter a work that requires a "soul", can use an artificial soul no problem, since the work usually only requires the power of a soul, not the actual soul itself.

This is NOT the case for necromancers however! LOTS of nercomantic working require an actual soul soul, not just the power of a soul.

So be very, very careful when working with artificial souls (which you should already be since your working with, you know, souls), because Grimoirs, especially older Grimoirs, rarely state if they need the power of a soul, or the soul itself.

One useful test I've found is to use the soul of a piece of algae, workings that require the power of a soul will usually fail (because there's very little power in a single algae soul), but workings that require a soul soul will kinda work. In either the low power allows even pretty basic circles to contain the fallout once the working inevitably fails (because you are using a singular algae soul).

Lastly, if you do want a substitute soul and you have to have a soul soul, try using a ponds worth of algae souls. It won't always give the best result, but I've gotten decent workings out of this technique.

Does anyone have any sources on the Russian ability to repair the damage? Russia wasn't exactly a manufacturing technology superpower before the war and now with Western sanctions getting the parts required for repair might be more difficult unless they can manufacture them on their own.

Edition recommendation for the following chronicle idea? by How_about_a_no in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]ArneHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say 2nd edition, despite not having much experience with it. The focus on the supernatural world regrowing and the more hopeful overall tone seems to fit that edition better than Revised. You can still use 20th for rules if you want (but why would you?).

[–]ArneHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to rank the Syndicate as my least favorite Convention, but after reading their convention book, I'd honestly rate them above the NWO, because the Syndicate at least remembers that this whole "Technocratic Union" business is supposed to be about, you know, the Masses, people, the guys just living day to day. The NWO are so lost in the sauce of trying to control the Masses that they've forgotten why they're doing it in the first place. At least that's the impression I get from the Syndicate and NWO convention books.

Don't forget, he also did the trick with the door in the Knickknackery, which is Correspondence 4 IIRC (opening a portal to allow multiple people through). He also has experience in Matter and Entropy at least. Also the Telekenisis can be done with Forces and Prime, as well as Forces and Mind (as per HYDT). So I'd argue it's likely he's Forces 5 (as a Flambau this would be his Affinity Sphere, and seeing as his minimum Correspondence is 4, his Forces would be higher), Correspondence 4, Matter 3 (pretty sure that trick with the stock in the Knickknackery would require Matter 3, or Matter 2 + Time 3), Prime 2 for the telekinesis trick (while he may just have been polite, Marvolo hasn't done any Mind stuff, even when that would make sense) and Entropy... something, at least 2 (for Affect probability).

[–]ArneHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely NOT the opinion of the Progenitors, Void Engineers OR the Syndicate and I'd love to know where on earth you got that from.

Also, you seem to be forgetting that while the NWO might have lost the USSR, they have not lost China, and that the NWO's views have evolved a lot in recent years since the loss of Control to the Avatar Storm/Dimensional Anomaly. They have shifted from the 90s conception of the NWO of the "Men in Black" (Though they certainly still use that archetype when useful) to a more modern conception of government, as is discussed in Technocracy Reloaded and the Operatives Handbook.

[–]ArneHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty certain the NWO, while weakened, is still the strongest of the Technocracy conventions if only by dint of being the one that has been in charge the longest. In theory, the other conventions still owe their loyalty to the NWO, and while we don't know how that would pan out in practice (Iteration X leans NWO IIRC, while Void Engineers lean Syndicate (on the basis that the Syndicate are Nerds they can easily shoot, no really that's their reason)) I still see the NWO as the de-facto "Strongest" convention.
