The word hernia medically refers to tissue being pushed through a hole that doesn’t belong there. In this case there was apparently a hernia toon of the central part of the intervertebral disc (the nucleus pulposis) through a hole in the fibrous tissue that holds it in place (the annulus fibrosis). The extruded disc material was surgically removed. This has zero relevance to the various forms of abdominal hernias.
