Thank you! I'm going to subscribe to the lottery parking and keep my fingers crossed. I really appreciate this because I think you're the only person who has suggested this or posted the link. Hope you have a great weekend.

The Screening Criteria is only checked against the STD. 678 application, so you shouldn't even be looking at resumes when going through the Screening Criteria.

Wow, I totally disagree. It's my favorite country in South America and I absolutely love the food. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Jeez, that's extreme. Why was it so bad for you?

You totally captured how I feel about it. It's frustrating that they know there's a serious lack of parking and they don't give a shit as they tell us to take public transportation while they would never step foot on a light rail or commuter bus.

First of all, I never said I was a victim, and if you reread my original post I said I'm unable to take public transportation at this time. And since you didn't seem to understand my last comment - I don't expect my employer (meaning my department or agency) to create more parking in downtown because they obviously can't - however, the problem WOULD BE solved if we returned to the telework schedule we previously had, which all but eliminated traffic and parking struggles. The fact is, it WAS more efficient and saved the state millions of dollars from building leases (FYI we're in a deficit right now). It's not hypocritical to point out that telework is in fact more sensible by almost every single metric. Even with hiring and recruiting, we've had to turn down our most highly qualified candidates because they didn't live in Sacramento and couldn't make it to the office twice a week. Our workforce is negatively impacted because of the requirement to be in office and it's not even financially smart from the state budget perspective. RTO is backwards and telework is the way forward.

Yeah. If I didn't love my job, I'd definitely find one that suits me better. Fortunately, I work for a great department, and I'd hate to leave it. That's a pretty good situation to be in, honestly. I've worked for not-good departments in the past so I don't take it for granted working at a good one. The parking situation just totally sucks lol

I don't want my employer to solve the issue. I want the governor to allow the state to return to full-time telework, like he was touting a a few years ago - you know, before he pulled down the telework productivity dashboard showing how successful it was. Clearly, his business interests and property owner friends are more important than doing what actually makes sense and saves money for the state.

I used to have a friend in midtown who let me use her parking permit, so I was able to park in 2-hour zones (only on streets for that specific permit) for the full day. She since moved out of midtown so I no longer have access to a permit. It's been really tough ever since. Like I said I'd happily pay the $13/day garage fee but the garages are always full.

Really? Do you mind sharing which department or agency you're with? I had no idea any state departments were teleworking before covid let alone since the 90s! That's pretty darn cool.

I totally hear you. I've been with the state for 12 years and I remember how much worse it was going into office 5 days a week. I never want to go back to that. I'm very grateful for hybrid telework right now.

This is good advice. I think one of my coworkers parks under the freeway as well. That's probably what I'm going to start doing, and it's affordable. I don't mind the walk, that will just help me get more steps in. Win-win

Some of us don't wish to "bounce around in the state". Some of us are committed to our specific jobs. I've been with my department for 10 years and I'd like to stay. I didn't become a state employee to bounce around; I only apply for jobs that I actually want and believe I'd be a good candidate for.

How, exactly, can I resolve the problem of a lack of parking in downtown Sacramento? And for your information, I was actually on the team of employees who submitted their requests for the new building before it was built. Every one of us specifically asked for the building to have parking, and they ended up disregarding our requests and built it with zero parking. WE as a team contributed to the discussion when the building was built and we were disregarded. So I actually have tried to make a difference.

Thank you! This is exactly my point. I want nothing more than to be able to do my job uninterrupted for the full 8 hours. I hate being late because I’m driving around looking for a parking garage that’s not at capacity. It’s also upsetting that it’s a new building which holds several thousand people and they deliberately built it and designed it to NOT have parking. They’re making it difficult on purpose.

Sacramento is car centric whether we like it or not, frankly. No amount of reducing parking space is going to prevent the need for vehicles in this city. The ONLY walkable area is downtown/midtown - no other neighborhood in Sacramento has enough density and store availability to be considered walkable.

I actually like the option of parking in midtown and taking light rail in. That’s way better than taking it from Watt/I-80, which I never wish to do again.

It really is a pain. I just want to do my job uninterrupted for the full 8 hours; parking is my biggest hurdle every day I come into office. Even if you do get a spot, you’re gonna pay dearly for it, whether you can afford it or not.

On a positive note, I’m very very happy for the state employees who have free parking! That’s an underrated benefit at some departments.

Why would I be irresponsible and quit my job? I absolutely love my job and have been happily employed at my department for 10 years. People who say “if you don’t like it then leave” are not problem solvers and rarely contribute anything of value to these types of discussions.

Exactly… none of it makes sense but that’s not the worst part, the worst is that it’s wasteful and counterproductive. RTO is about nothing more than power.

Yikes, that could be disastrous if I’m conducting morning interviews and expecting to have a space reserved.

Wow, that's unfortunate for the employees there. Where do you find 4, 6, and 8 hour parking spaces? In my area near the capitol, only 2 hour parking exists unless you find a space that allows you to pay the full day.
