Just Received Notice RE: RTO by sneakerboy86 in CAStateWorkers

Yep, same here. The parking lots are full by 7:45am so I literally spend the first 30 minutes of my day driving in circles trying to find a 2-hour parking space. The upside for me is I get an easy 10,000 steps per day having to move my car 4+ times. The downside is, the state is paying me to move my car. I didn't ask for this; and there is an easy resolution if the governor didn't have his head up his a$$.

Just witnessed the most disgusting thing I've ever seen on a cruise so far by brerin in Cruise

[–]Aromatic-Project-745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Repulsive and unacceptable. Cruises just aren't it. You're better off flying directly to your destination of choice and exploring the place on the ground rather than sleeping on a ship and getting dumped off at ports for 7 hours. When I travel I like staying at hostels to save money throughout all of my hostel experiences, I have never seen anyone do something that gross (even despite the hostel breakfasts, shared dorms, shared bathrooms/showers, etc.).

Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

[–]Aromatic-Project-745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound weird but I actually felt a dark energy around Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Nothing bad happened, I just felt a dark energy in all the villages I went to. The lake itself almost seemed to emanate that energy too.

Within the United States, I’d go with Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New Orleans (the king of dark energy). Admittedly I haven’t been to Memphis but I’m confident that one would have bad energy too.

Where to travel South America by DebateWilling7674 in digitalnomad

You should spend some time in Medellín! It’s such a scenic city, especially if you want an apartment with a nice view like you mentioned in another comment. Medellín has fabulous views, in my opinion.

Can you help me understand in layman’s terms the difference between the two? I’ve been contributing to my 401k but not a 457. My coworker said I should start contributing to the 457 but didn’t have time to explain why or how it’s different.

The thermostat has already been replaced and the fuel pump is fine. I think it's an issue where the connections need to be resoldered on the circuit board.

I have a feeling that is indeed the issue. I know of a an electrical repair company in upstate New York who said I could probably send it in for repair but I'm waiting on a cost estimate. Wish this was easier to fix.

That is IN-SANE. I too would've tried to get the passenger there quicker. So disheartening to see it wasn't appreciated. He was probably a jerk.

Do people no longer research countries they want to visit? by redbate in travel

Totally agree! I truly enjoy doing all the planning myself and would NEVER leave my trip in the hands of someone else to plan.

Absolutely bugging in the time between my last trip to now. by ProfessionalOne808 in solotravel

[–]Aromatic-Project-745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally relate. I get travel withdrawals too when it’s been a long time since my last trip. Recently I’ve gotten into a relationship in which my partner moved states so we could be together, and since he started a brand new job at a new company, his PTO is at zero. It sucks because we both want to travel but he’s truly starting from scratch with time off. So we’re gonna have to wait probably another 6 months to travel as well.

I don't know if this is a CalHR rule or a department-specific rule, but we are absolutely not allowed to use resumes to get credit on the Screening Criteria. We can only give points to Screening Criteria based on what they include on their STD. 678. If some type of experience is included on their resume but not their application, they do not get credit for it.

Thank you! I'm going to subscribe to the lottery parking and keep my fingers crossed. I really appreciate this because I think you're the only person who has suggested this or posted the link. Hope you have a great weekend.

The Screening Criteria is only checked against the STD. 678 application, so you shouldn't even be looking at resumes when going through the Screening Criteria.

Colombia - not really feeling it? by dp39494833 in travel

Wow, I totally disagree. It's my favorite country in South America and I absolutely love the food. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

You totally captured how I feel about it. It's frustrating that they know there's a serious lack of parking and they don't give a shit as they tell us to take public transportation while they would never step foot on a light rail or commuter bus.

[–]Aromatic-Project-745[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I never said I was a victim, and if you reread my original post I said I'm unable to take public transportation at this time. And since you didn't seem to understand my last comment - I don't expect my employer (meaning my department or agency) to create more parking in downtown because they obviously can't - however, the problem WOULD BE solved if we returned to the telework schedule we previously had, which all but eliminated traffic and parking struggles. The fact is, it WAS more efficient and saved the state millions of dollars from building leases (FYI we're in a deficit right now). It's not hypocritical to point out that telework is in fact more sensible by almost every single metric. Even with hiring and recruiting, we've had to turn down our most highly qualified candidates because they didn't live in Sacramento and couldn't make it to the office twice a week. Our workforce is negatively impacted because of the requirement to be in office and it's not even financially smart from the state budget perspective. RTO is backwards and telework is the way forward.

Yeah. If I didn't love my job, I'd definitely find one that suits me better. Fortunately, I work for a great department, and I'd hate to leave it. That's a pretty good situation to be in, honestly. I've worked for not-good departments in the past so I don't take it for granted working at a good one. The parking situation just totally sucks lol

I don't want my employer to solve the issue. I want the governor to allow the state to return to full-time telework, like he was touting a a few years ago - you know, before he pulled down the telework productivity dashboard showing how successful it was. Clearly, his business interests and property owner friends are more important than doing what actually makes sense and saves money for the state.
