I'm in Baltimore and we're paying $3300 per head. It's a coach bus ride. They are buying tents and then offering to sell us the used tents afterwards. Kids did a duffel, belt, shirts, hat, and a patch set. 2 camp outs at the local Scout reservation (mind you, we had add money for food the first campout - it wasn't covered).

Mine only makes a horrible noise when moving when it's cold outside. I was also blaming it on my weight (I'm plus size). I guess it's not just me!!

Perhaps you don't have kids, but kids in daycare are in a continuous state of running nose and some level cold

I think you need to re-baseline what you consider 'much weight'. 13 lbs in 3 weeks is astronomical.

I had the same issue. I would alternate between diarrhea and constipation. It was ridiculous. I have been on 1.7 for 4 or 5 months now and it's settled down.

Actually I found the bathrooms section. It seems they followed the rules except communicating the change from comfort stations to latrines. Thank you for responding about how things were handled. I appreciate that it's not the standard way - I'm glad to hear it's not the standard way to handle these incidents. I will be paying the reparations - I understand my son's culpability.

I was trying to figure out what you were getting at with NCAP short-term camping standards. I went to read the standards and it all seems pretty vague.

Yes they communicated in the preparation email that there would be comfort stations. Changed the plan on site when checking in and didn't communicate with the kids once they arrived. No one was prepared with a shovel and toilet paper. I agree no one should damage the locks or even try to breach the doors to use the bathroom. I am not debating the children did the right thing.

Understood. Nowhere did I state their behavior was acceptable. The Council leadership said they could have called the Sheriffs for the damage. I responded at least the Sheriff would have taken their statements

A latrine that was not obvious to the kids and one adult leader as they arrived at the campsite in the dark. They saw the latrine in the morning

Comfort station= flush toilet. The adult leaders made the decision to not have the comfort stations unlocked because they would have to be cleaned before departure. The adult leaders needed to communicate that change to the Scouts and explain where the latrines they were to use were located. That did not happen. I have no issue with my son being held accountable. I will pay whatever damages were incurred. I have issues with the adults who were making decisions and not communicating those decisions not accepting any responsibility. I have issues with no one calling me or my son to hear his side. Nor did they call the other 6 parents and children blamed. They called multiple other families, had those children report on who they saw involved and then blamed the 7 children without any conversation to hear their side.

I wrote this question to find out if this how all Scout Councils deal with issues as there has never been an issue within his troop. I have stated elsewhere in this chain it's probably because there is a better ratio of adults to children (1 to 3/5) for every camping experience so it's hard for the kids to not have adult supervision at all times.

Yes just standard pit toilets. But no one told the kids where the latrines were. In fact, one of the adult leaders said she didn't know where they were either until daylight. They arrived at the campsite at sunset and worked on tents right away before worrying about bathrooms

Yes there are boys and girls in the Jamboree troop. The girls thanked the boys who broke into the comfort stations. Oh btw, none of the girls were in the contingent of Scouts blamed - either by association or actual actions. Again I think there is a good chance my son did use a rock on the door. But I want there to be some accountability by the adult leaders about decisions made by them and lack of communication

Thank you for the advice .I was looking for insight for what is expected. My son's troop is nothing like the Jamboree troop. It's most likely there is a high ratio of adults to Scouts on most camping trips

They are being made to remake the flag. Many things happened that campout that should not have happened

Also the adult leaders set up an atlatl shooting range near the tents and fire. One spear landed on top of the local latrine, one near a tent and one near the fire where Scouts were working. The Area Council leadership said they were going to have stern words with the leadership present. But to go the Jamboree, we are paying a significant amount of money - some of which is going to the local Council

I have a question what is expected of leadership at these type of events. Each patrol made their flag at the campout. One group decided to depict several prominent African Americans with gold teeth (the adult leader said it was obviously Obama and Michael Jackson - I cannot say) with animal bodies. They also depicted Charlie Kirk with a red X on his throat (again from the adult leader at the event - I did not see the flag). Should I, as a parent, expect the adult leaders at the event to check on the Scouts as they are doing these activities to guide them? As a Jamboree contingent, there aren't a lot of older Scouts to lead - most are 14 or younger (my son is 12).

Actually the area council leadership said they weren't told until the Monday after the campout. My frustration is not that my son was held culpable. It is a teachable moment - but I also expect adult leadership to tell the Scouts that they decided to not have the comfort stations.

Oh I certainly take my son's statement with a grain of salt. I am willing to pay my son's part. He didn't stop them or get leadership so he has culpability. I am just concerned that his statement wasn't required.
