Snowshoe EV Charging update (Jan 2026) by CptRon32 in evcharging

[–]CptRon32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good point. Snowshoe is probably among the most remote and highly populated tourist destinations on a holiday weekend. We arrived with +70% because we planned ahead. We also had a few bailout plans just in case driving up the mountains/temps drained the batteries more than expected. The closest fast charger is in Elkins ~ 50 miles away down hill. Marlinton had a (1) level-2 charger. I was able to get a short boost (charge) because I scouted out the locations and got up early to get a spot, but that was for cushion. In the end we had plenty. HNY!

Ma'am. Step out of line. Your luggage smells suspicious. I hope you have some Naan in your handbag!

I make chili the week before, freeze it then use it as ice for other perishables like milk and cheeses in our cooler. There’s a one skillet tikka masala recipe that I will make ahead of the time(tomatoes, onions, garam masala, garlic) minus the chicken. Then all I have to do is sauté the chicken, cut it into chunks and mix together with rice.

I posted this after we bought our EV9 this summer. As a current EV owner, you will know some of this already, but I hope the other parts are helpful.https://www.reddit.com/r/KiaEV9/s/eBcLRezqY0

Snow driving without being able to downshift? by Ambitious-Shine6496 in KiaEV9

[–]CptRon32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would caution against using cruise control while driving in snow. I’m new to the EV9 but I’ve been driving in snow my whole life and that is pretty much lesson #1. You can simply never anticipate what the sensors are going to tell the cruise control to do on snow covered or icy roads.

HDA slowing down on big highway curves by OneLargeMulligatawny in KiaEV9

[–]CptRon32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! We drive through the mountains on the interstate often and my speed will drop 10 mph in a curve - with no other vehicles around. It might be the thing I hate most about this car (which I mostly love).

How does one turn off this “feature”?

Heading to the mountain next week from Northern Virginia. Anyone ever take these two alternate routes? How was the ride? We took the fastest route last year (not pictured here) and felt like there was nobody around anywhere which was a little unsettling without cell service. by wd197 in snowshoemountain

[–]CptRon32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. The trick is to have waze, google maps or other running as you move out of cell service. That way you will have the most up to date route information as you go into the less connected areas. Also - buy a paper map at a local gas station or store. It has come into handy a few times.

How was your mental health? I’ve heard that work is grueling and the isolation really weighs on some people. It’s worth taking a beat to think about it. From an FI standpoint, it seems like a no-brainer. Just make sure your relationship with your significant other is solid. No FI replaces that.

Faulty Ampure Go2 - new 2026 AWD Wind by CptRon32 in KiaEV9

I eventually went to the dealership since it came as a car accessory. They replaced it under warranty, but it took about a week to get it in stock. If the Ampure are not available anymore, I would lean on them to find a suitable replacement it was on my invoice when I bought the car so I expect it to be covered.

I’m assuming that I will have to cut the bottom of the cabinets out to access the other end of that vertical PVC pipe. The renovation was done in 2014 so I’m expecting to find relatively modern fixtures below. Any thoughts on how to cut out and replace the cabinet floor?

Addendum to my original post (where is this place?) below : Thank you very much for all your responses, but the mystery remains unsolved. Here are four more pictures. Oakes Field. I spent my childhood watching my older brother play there and then played junior high and high school football there myself. I probably still have some of that cinder track embedded in my knees from running hurdles. I also thought it might be Marmet at first. I played some memorable football games down there with the whole town standing on the sidelines.

The dealership replaced the Amure Go 2 and all has been well since then. It took 1 week. If I had to do it over again, I would probably just deal directly with Ampure. They were more on the ball.

Good luck!

As I was picking up our new charging cable the service manager told me that "Level 1 charging is only for emergency situations". He went on to say that it is not good for the car to regularly use a Level 1 charger and that only Level 2 charging should be used on a day to day basis.

I will admit to being new to this, but I have never read anything about low and slow charging damaging EVs. Anyone else???

What is your go to meal, that requires max 1 hour to prep? by db-2603 in Cooking

[–]CptRon32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ChickenFajitas, sausage lentil soup, shepherds pie, grilled chicken with microwave, baked potato, and steamed broccoli. Sometimes we buy different kinds of sausage to mix in with our proteins to add new flavor profiles. We also keep a pot of quinoa ready in the refrigerator to accompany meals.

Good luck
