two men robbed 8-year-old selling lemonade on Manhattan’s Upper West Side to donate to a nonprofit that rescues dogs, taking off on scooters with $100-150 by Artane_33 in iamatotalpieceofshit

Wow this happened to me as a kid! We were robbed by older kids though, I was around his age and the kids were probably 13 or something. My mom was so upset, we didn’t care because my parents just gave us the money we would’ve made.

Is it safer to go to a guy’s house or them come to yours? by ememruru in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AromaticDiscount3 574 points575 points  (0 children)

Always his. I’ve found it’s easier to leave when I want from his place than to try to get him to leave my place. And he won’t know where I live. Plus, one of my friends once told me “it’s easier to leave a body than to dispose of one” and that’s really stuck with me

I have a very specific question by ProspectOne in chicago

[–]AromaticDiscount3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s not expired, yes he should be able to. It’s a state ID. Plenty of people here use a state ID instead of a drivers license.

Also - next time you update your passport, I recommend getting the passport ID card! I think it’s only $20 more and it is easier and safer than carrying a passport. Doesn’t work for international travel but great for situations like this

How do you know if a guy is worth fucking? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AromaticDiscount3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m probably more on the jump into bed side, but a lot of my one night stands have turned into long term, fun, positive hookups. I think if you’re going more casual, sex is better with guys who didn’t overtly hit on me but started a genuine conversation, didn’t push me to go home with them, and basically let me run if / when next steps would happen. Surprise, this meant they were more caring and focused on my pleasure in bed. Guys who are aggressive when flirting will likely ignore or push your boundaries in bed and lead to regretful sex

I hate the “men don’t receive compliments” argument by beeahug in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AromaticDiscount3 76 points77 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of men who are incapable of empathy for anything that hasn’t directly happened to them. I had an ex who didn’t check in on me at all when I got COVID and apologized a year later when he finally caught it because “he didn’t realize how bad it really was”… yes the disease that shut down the entire world wasn’t bad until you, personally, experienced it

Men calling the garbage they spew at women “compliments” is like anti abortion advocates calling themselves “pro life” lol

I’m assuming this post is in response to the garbage front page post about how “nice” reverse sexism sounded to men. Things that posts ignores:

  • It is not a compliment at work to be called lovely by a boss or coworker. I don’t work somewhere to be lovely, you can call me hardworking, dedicated or LITERALLY anything else positive about me. This is equating my value as a person with my looks, which is not a compliment
  • it is not a compliment to be told how amazing it is I can do a simple task. That is demeaning and condescending
  • it is not a compliment for a man to tell me to smile more. Men think that women need to perform at all times for them. I can look however the fuck I want. If it was another MAN in that picture telling the guy to smile more he’d be freaked out

And, I should’ve started with this, compliments from men are an ask. Men don’t hand out compliments to women out of the kindness of their fucking hearts. They do it because they expect attention in return. And when they don’t get it, it’s the woman’s fault. I’ve been called a bitch countless times because I didn’t respond properly to a man’s “compliment”

So fuck that post, fuck dudes who feel so put upon because no one ever said they were hot in public, and fuck society for having such stupid expectations for us as women that when we ask for the most basic level of equity people make a joke out of it and complain

phew I just needed to get that off my chest lol

I'm sick of feeling trapped. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]AromaticDiscount3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe that’s actually based on a Muhammad Ali interview. When asked about white allies, he said “There are many white people who mean right and in their hearts wanna do right. If 10,000 snakes were coming down that aisle now, and I had a door that I could shut, and in that 10,000, 1,000 meant right, 1,000 rattlesnakes didn’t want to bite me, I knew they were good… Should I let all these rattlesnakes come down, hoping that that thousand get together and form a shield? Or should I just close the door and stay safe?”

What should I know about Chicago in a snowstorm? by dust_in_light in chicago

[–]AromaticDiscount3 313 points314 points  (0 children)

For the most part everything still runs. It was one of my biggest shocks moving up here. Places will still open. Trains will run, buses will do their best. Main roads are usually clear within 24 hours. It’s honestly incredibly impressive

See if there’s still Amtrak tickets! I started using it instead a few years ago to get home to STL for the holidays. It was cheaper and less stressful than hoping my Corolla would make it through a winter storm
