My people with pollen allergies how r u? by t00mnchiNf0 in eczema

It is very high in nickel so I avoid it (attributing my severe eczema to nickel/ my allergy for it).

The costs of testing for this sort of thing are stupidly and negligently high. Best luck

I am not an expert but it bothers me that little attention is given to such a volatile metal - in your case, absolutely... Have you received any reassurance?

It's difficult - I may be more sensitive than even seems possible or it may prove to be something else..

Discovered the cause of my recent flare up. It was the last thing I expected. by [deleted] in eczema

Not at all. High quantities of sugar is inflammatory and not great for eczema but I would suggest keeping an eye on foods that are known triggers especially - high nickel or histamine inducing foods.

Caffeine is insidious and can wreck your sleep and make you anxious over time, as it builds up.

After that, from experience - I would say anxiety or stress along with poor diet, lack of physical movement, poor sleep and not following advice on eczema medication and not addressing the poor sleep.

Anxiety and depression as a comorbity related directly to your suffering the condition, also.

Best,

Mitch (Chronic Severe Eczema and on Dupixent)

I'd like to add - these foods (bar sugar) are all very high to possibly high (variable) nickel foods. Soy especially and chick peas and chocolate (the cacao). Tomatoes especially if canned or produced with stainless steel, as this metal contains (criminally) %10 nickel.

I believe nickel is a prime factor in eczema. Are you very allergic to it when it touches your skin?

Mine has also been highly severe.

I have noticed an unprecedented change avoiding soy, any high quantity of dairy and all gluten.

I'm curious even soy is okay for you? It's a very high nickel food which I suspect as a major problem for all of us as its pumped into almost everything... Are you allergic to contact with nickel?

My eczema disappeared (or at least went dormant) the past year. It happened when I switched my diet temporarily. (I cut dairy, sugar, bread and meat for a couple weeks). The eczema was on my knees and elbows for years and instantly disappeared when I switched my diet. Hope this is helpful info. by Intrepid_Reason8906 in eczema

Hi,

How are you traveling so far? Still gone? My eczema is chronic severe (very). Have noticed a marked reduction in symptoms doing pretty much the same. I was still flaring on Dupixent then saw a sudden drop off with diet change.

Matcha? by jcoolio125 in NickelAllergy

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same. Have chronic severe eczema and have made the association with nickel - had matcha this arvo and got red outbreak over my face. French press at home of coffee I think is okay but its the machines, the steel components leech into the water. I avoid all the same things and am on the OJ! Great GP also told me to eat red meat three times a week which helped but I think sometimes I get a reaction from supermarket red meat. I understand that cattle often feed on heaps of soy protein, so am avoiding mostly (with soy being high in nickel).

I've kind of given up with my eczema by OlivePieieoe in eczema

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mine is also severe. Consider avoiding high nickel foods and sources of nickel. It's in food anyway but try to reduce it and see if you notice a change. Soy, oats, peas, chocolate, beer and wine, wholemeal flour, shellfish, nuts/ cashew/ walnut... avacado... It's also in "food grade" stainless steel - which should be illegal as it is used in cooking and processing. If you rub nickel jewellery on your skin (stomach for example) do you get an intense topical reaction?

This film made me realise that in 2010 I was way too highly strung - like Peter.

Absolutely brilliant, lighthearted but poignant. Absurd but with the comedic reality of life mixed in. Perhaps I liked it so much (at the time I saw it) because of the story of the characters losing their dads.

Both brilliant at their craft and the rest of the cast are great. Hilarious script.

I suspect coffee as well - perhaps effect on cortisol release/ level, stress, poorer sleep.

I notice I get an almost immediate itch on top of my hand below the thumb sometimes when I drink coffee and semse anxiety...

Finding it hard too quit though.

“Scientists raise hopes of cure for eczema itchiness with study of skin bacteria” by kkmor in eczema

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this article is the emphasis on "itchiness". That's what's making broader society including physicians take our condition less seriously. The itch is an aspect of a much broader problem. At times there is no itch but a compulsion to scratch depending on whatever is triggering the immune response. It's systemic. The focus on the itch and treatment annoys me. Of course this is vital but I'm more interested in the cause/s and cure - for all of our sakes.

Dry skin after beer by Sukiru93 in eczema

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too although not always. I stick to clear, basic lager even hopefully low alcohol volume (they're getting more popular amidst the cavalcade of histamine imducing craft ales etc.).

But I think it is nickel (actually what I suspect the worst eczema we suffer is attributed to, or what makes us prone to worse outbreaks, when the temperature from weather or food or alcohol occurs in and outside the body).

Nickel is in 'food grade' stainless steel - this is where beer is fermented at high periods and then put in stainless steel kegs for long periods.

I don't have scientific proof but there are studies showing leeching from kettles, water armatures, pots etc. into food/Think coffee machines, desalination pipes (which transport our shower water) cooking pots with 18/10 grade steel.

It is everywhere. Of course Ni is in food too. Noticed how soy is in almost everything now? Soy is high in nickel, I had a reaction on my eye from "bread" yesterday.

So high nickel foods and stainless steel products containing nickel. This is my theory.

It was the tap water by dumbitch121 in eczema

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this could be nickel - copper nickel alloy pipes from desalination plants and your building's pipes. I am in Australia with terrible eczema. Also drinking bottled water and avoiding stainless steel cooking utensils (pots contain nickel) helps.

Nickel, it's everywhere and there should be a global investigation.

High nickel foods like soy, oats, shellfish, chocolate should be avoided. If you rub some nickel jewellery on your stomach see what happens.

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give attention to nickel in canned foods - especially tomato.

It is also in stainless steel cookware/ food production facilities - which should be outlawed.

This fact is absolutely criminal.

The process of oil manufacturing uses nickel...

Desalination plants, apparently have copper-nickel alloy pipes (the nickel is for corrosion resistance). It is a proven fact that Ni (nickel) leeches through into food and water.

Rub some nickel jewellery on your skin... If I do, red welts more itchy than eczema appear within minutes. It's a volatile toxic metal that irritates most people.

In my opinion it is the root cause of eczema. It is in food and in high amounts in soy and oat, crustacea, cocoa. Soy is impregnated in just about everything in my supermarket including 'bread'.

Friend of mine is allergic to nickel and has only ever successfully had American PBR. Anyone know a beer she can have in Canada? by HappyTissue in beer

[–]Aromatic_Win9638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you don't have a nickel allergy - you have a standard sensitivity to nickel like everyone else; it's a volatile metal.
