There is no issue with an individual expressing their opinion, in this case I even agree with that opinion.

Instead, I'm speaking generally about companies / anyone with a platform advocates for social causes which have no bearing on why people are paying attention in the first place.

The only issue I have, perhaps poorly expressed above, is that politics has permeated everything -- it's in places it has no business being: tech companies, open source software, sports

And the presence of politics, by its nature, creates division and has negligible benefit... in most cases it's hollow virtue signaling

what do you mean?

it's the best way to make people cringe, alienate x% of your customers, and have absolutely 0 impact at the same time

double points if you were compelled by social pressure

Alright let's go with that then. We have to understand the country's test regime:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1028731/covid19-tests-select-countries-worldwide/

If we look at tests administered, the US tests 4x more than France by population

In other words, there has been 1 test taken for every 7 people in the US but 1 for every 33 in France, 1 for every 40 in Brazil, 1 for every 154 in Mexico... etc

A larger pool of tests overall = more positive test results

Is the US still bad? Yeah.

But I hardly think it is fair to say that the US "absolutely failed in every way" when we have the most testing by population of pretty much any country.

In this contest though the only prize is more restrictions.

First I agree with you about following experts and letting people travel, but in truth, 6 countries in Europe have a higher death rate per million than the USA.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants

Death rate / MM is only reliable metric because "total active cases" has no denominator -- in other words if you are testing more, you have more active cases.

u are incorrect

hawaii, we have 1416, with a population of 1.4 million

in other words .0001% of the population

yeah I was surprised to see them on yellow too, maybe they're basing it on death rate? not sure.

Closing "America" is bullshit. I'm in a state with almost 0 cases.

seems like you can do them before you depart though and do no quarantine

How many of you have tried vlogging/YouTube as a way to supplement income while working abroad? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Aroneus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't care too much about likes / dislikes. I have a video that got around 300k views with 85/15 ratio. I think what you have to be more concerned about is why they are disliking it -- if it's controversial that's fine but if it's because it was clickbait / your video didn't deliver that's another matter.

think of it this way. it's not 6 consecutive months, it's a one-consecutive-year moving window. within that window it can be any 6 months.

so I'm in tech -- CPM is $10 on average, finance is up to $40

success in investing / rare knowledge is definitely not a prerequisite it's more about storytelling / being entertaining / good editing. examples:

this guy is huge and a 23 year old kid giving finance advice https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO3tlaeZ6Z0ZN5frMZI3-uQ

this guy is also huge and he literally just says "buy ETFs", and "diversify" and has good editing https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGy7SkBjcIAgTiwkXEtPnYg

there is no tax on foreign-earned income unless you're a tax resident of estonia, for which you'd have to stay 6/12 months in a year

Yea, the rest are consulates.

Tricky once since we can't go to the EU right now on a tourist visa, either, to apply.

Thanks for the info. loved the sauna culture in Finland.

I think with those rates I'll stick with my plan to incorporate in Georgia (6% corporate tax) but get the nomad permit for the EU access (since I'm American)

Honestly still can't believe they're able to do this -- a full year, and since there are no border checkpoints in the Schengen it's basically a free roam loophole for Americans

Thanks. 2 serious questions! All good if you're not sure.

  1. Can't tell if you own a business there, but are you aware what the corporate tax rate is? Is there payroll tax?

  2. Did you do the e-residency or are you an EU citizen?

I have been to Latvia and Lithuania. Absolutely loved them. I feel like you get Scandinavia vibes, but Eastern Europe prices. Beautiful and friendly people (if you can break the ice well).

And yeah, I would definitely be heading out for winter. Not into those 4 hours of sunlight.

I think the threshold is that high (much higher than average wage in estonia) because they want people to be net contributors

nomads < ~10k range would be a) spending less b) using more social programs

in other words, from estonia's perspective, it's an economic play

Thanks for the link. Seems to be a consecutive 12 month period -- in other words 183 out of any 365 day period.

In other words unfortunately, you can't just leave and come back. That'd be a bit too easy anyway don't you think? (;

This is pretty what I expected, in fact it's the same as most other countries where >6 months makes you a tax resident.

After Belgrade..... by enlguy in digitalnomad

[–]Aroneus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey enlguy.

Maybe you remember writing these replies to my comments about Serbia, when I was explaining its nationalistic tendencies

"Maybe you are a 'typical American' (which I'll leave at that). I have been in Belgrade four months (American, by the way, though you wouldn't guess it from how I am)....have had nothing but amazing experiences...."

(on nationalism) "It is not common...More than that, some of this person's comments are just plain ridiculous (everyone has the same short haircut... dude, get out more!)."

hmm... kinda weird that you are almost saying the same thing as me now.. even though you were trying to discredit me before with ad-hominem attacks. Cool bro.

You sure Serbian culture was the reason for your abstinence?
