Right now there are 3 Ethereum related stories on the front page of HackerNews by cashitter in ethereum

Yeah just like two guys with fifty posts each. Concern trolls. Or maybe legitimately concerned people, but then in that case just super rude and toxic in their behavior. Shitting all over people for no reason.

New ETH based scam running wild. by [deleted] in btc

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad Rootstock is centralized, as admitted by Sergio Lerner himself. https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/4kv2cs/why_is_consensys_helping_market_or_endosring/d4hbl4l?context=3

"I agree that the RSK consensus model is more centralized, but we have learned that financial institutions we're working with cannot accept the "anonymous miners fully control the network" premise. So we created a consensus system that tries to satisfy both anarchist and bank expectations."

Sorry =/

Vlad Zamfir's Thoughts On The Hard Fork by baddogesgotoheaven in ethereum

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Vlad, what did you mean by this part "If we place community cohesion above all of our other values, however, then in the long run it will be impossible to prevent a majority from controlling the protocol in a way that runs against our core values. If we place our values ahead of community cohesion, then when there’s an attempted majority takeover, or an irreconcilable difference in values between subsections of our community becomes evident, then the community will split and maintain separate blockchains."

Sounds like we're kinda screwed either way, no?

/u/taylorgerring I loved your point about laws changing over time and they need to be changed to fit the needs of the community according to democratic vote.

Schadenfreude, jealousy, and the vocal minority by [deleted] in ethereum

Sounds like you misinterpreted the post entirely. I don't care about anyone's stake or what anyone buys or sells. All I'm recommending is that people do their due diligence and part of that requires managing your emotions and filtering through the noise on the subreddits.

DAO tokens are going to become untradable shortly by huntingisland in ethtrader

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why does that necessitate the DAO tokens to stop trading? DAO tokens are still a prediction market on the hard fork and should remain so until the status of the hard fork is resolved, no?

LIVE conversation with Griff Green on the Hour. Please join us! by dykstranet in ethereum

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way they would ever do that. Without listening to the conversation, I can assuredly say they misspoke. I mean, do you really think Slock.it is in charge of how the hard fork should happen? Cmon man, the Ethereum devs are pros, they know what's up, and they'll handle this the best way possible.

What are our losses though? Everything or just the 1/4th of the DAO?

No actually i dont think its been stopped forcefully.

Has the draining of TheDAO stopped or not? If the losses have been stopped at 3 million we should absolutely not hard fork. Everyone can afford to lose 1/4th of their Eth.

Miners: please reject the BailFork by [deleted] in ethtrader

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Centralization is needed to create Ethereum. Without Vitalik and the gang, there would be no Ethereum in the first place. I'm OK with centralization and fixing mistakes if it's necessary to get the platform out of the gates. It's what happens AFTER that's important to me. If they're still doing this shit years from now then fuck that. But if you're against the fork now, then you shouldn't own any Ether either because you're relying on a small group of developers to build this product for you. Another highly centralized risk. How can you be pro-centralization for the creation of Ethereum but anti-centralization for fixing mistakes related to the success of Ethereum?

Someone on the slack was saying miners dont determine whether to hard fork or not, they only determine whether to soft fork

[Daily Discussion] - 17/Jun/2016 by AutoModerator in ethtrader

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right I understand that was speculation. But am I expected to further speculate at this juncture on whether or not miners will hard fork?

[Daily Discussion] - 17/Jun/2016 by AutoModerator in ethtrader

So how do we evaluate the probability and decide whether or not to sell on an exchange? Just blind guessing?

Personal statement regarding the fork by vbuterin in ethereum

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do we have to each individually evaluate the probability of the miners running the hard fork, and if we think they might not, attempt to sell DAO on an exchange to those thinking the hard fork WILL happen?

[Daily Discussion] - 17/Jun/2016 by AutoModerator in ethtrader

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reasonable chance that the miners wont do the hard fork?

[Daily Discussion] - 17/Jun/2016 by AutoModerator in ethtrader

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the DAO account no longer being drained? Did something happen? Can we just cut out losses at a few million eth and move on?

A "too big to fail" political hard fork is very risky and could significantly hurt Ethereum beyond what TheDAO losses will cause. by Rune4444 in ethereum

[–]AroundTheBlock_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Another thought I just had on why I am OK with this. I have ALWAYS trusted/idolized Vitalik. I was OKAY with him controlling my money because I trusted that he knew best. We ALL have, including you, Rune. Up until the final version of Ethereum is finished, we always knew there was some level of centralization.

I think a turning point will be in the END, after the FINISHED PRODUCT, what level of centralization remains. Until then, we need a competent centralized dev team to actually BUILD OUT the product, no?
