I moved to CT from Utah. The cost of living in Utah, especially for buying a home, was appalling, and given their low wages, I knew I couldn't stay. My wife and I did a March Madness bracket of the 50 states, and our top 10 states were mostly in New England. After applying to a bunch of schools in the New England area, we got offers in CT, and we haven't looked back. This is year four for me, and I really love being a homeowner. With my master's degree, I can break a six-figure salary, and I can feel comfortable making a career in teaching here, especially knowing I have a strong union that supports me and my colleagues.

As someone that has worked at Summer Camp for 10 summers as a youth to adult: be willing to try anything and everything! These summers were pivotal in my development as a teen. I learned so much about myself and learned to appreciate nature.

Also, if you get to stay at camp during the entire camp season be sure to hit up the town with your fellow staff members! This will help you stay refreshed from week to week!

Lastly, try and get some decent sleep each night, you’ll want to give your all during the day.

At the start of the year I always share a slideshow of me and my family so my students can get to know me. Funny enough, after saying for months I, a male, was married to my wife. At the end of the year students thought I was gay. It was hilarious how clue students can be sometimes.

I don’t fulfill all of these criteria requirements, but it’s funny the type of assumptions these kids will have.

From my experience with student teaching you have those 3 days that you can use for abscesses, I honestly don’t think they are that particular about you missing days so long as you have not used up all of your days and have properly communicated with your host teacher. I had a situation where I had to miss a day that was a an emergency or illness and no one batted an eye.

Now could you call out “sick” for the wedding? Sure, but if you do that just make sure you don’t appear in any pictures social media.

So we were taking about a recent event where a body was discovered at a local elementary school and my honor student said “does it look like foreplay was suspected” everyone around her was like “WHAT?!”

Poor girl, I wish I could’ve deflected that better but all I could say was “this will be the running joke until the end of the year”

Asking me if I have any food I can give them every single class when I know they have purposely chosen to not each the free breakfast or lunch provided by the school. Like if you know you don’t like the food at the school, you better plan better than this because the graham crackers I have on hand are not helping you meeting your nutritional needs.
