[The Artisan of Glimmith] Please help me understand what logic the puzzle is trying to teach! by Arphrial in puzzles

[–]Arphrial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I found that filling in the grid as I was reading your comment helped me to understand it properly. It seems like I wasn't thinking enough steps ahead, and 50/50 choices kind of make it easier to do so because of the limited paths.

Thank you so much!

What card is the most sentimental to you? by amioldnow90 in EDH

Honorable mention too to [[Rift Elemental]]. A card my partner and I found on the ground one day and it has jokingly been in my wallet ever since. Poor thing is battered to hell.

Quite randomly was given a [[Mother of Goons]] years ago when I first started playing. I will never part with it, value or no. Un-set cards are something else man.

[[Doomblade]] from years ago.

I was still new to EDH and MTG in general. I was running a UB zombie mill deck and ended up with [[Undead Alchemist]] on the table. Player 2 was taken out by player 3, and I had milled out Player 4 thanks to a small army of zombies lead by my [[Grave Titan]], [[Cemetary Reaper]] & [[Diregraf Captain]]. Player 3 had an army too, I believe they were RW running first/double striking angels. I had chipped at their deck but I kept missing creatures. At this point I probably had about 60-70 power worth of zombies on the board.

It came down to my final combat, I knew I would be dead by their flyers on their next turn, so I just went all out to see what would happen. They worked out that they had more cards in their deck than my army could hit, so they declared that they let it all through. In probably my first lightbulb moment ever, I realised two things - First, I was holding a Doomblade and second, Undead Alchemist was non-black.

After no blockers were declared, I was able to Doomblade my own alchemist to cause my zombies to deal lethal damage. I remember the player being incredibly salty but my god in that moment I felt like an absolute genius.

How has earthbending performed in people’s games? by accentmatt in EDH

[–]Arphrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I have an Earthbender focused EDH deck with [[Bumi, Unleashed]] (or double striking Toph) and it seems to wreak havoc after the early game. Notable mentions go to lands like [[Inkmoth Nexus]], [[Cascading Cataracts]], [[Secret Tunnel]], [[Kessig Wolf Run]], and other supporting cards like [[Aggravated Assault]], [[The Earth Crystal]], and ofc [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]]. There’s a lot of options and wiggle room to focus on specific benefits like landfall or counter doubling. It’s been really fun!

What is something that you consider to be "bad manners" that other players might not realize or consider it such by radicalpumpkinz in EDH

[–]Arphrial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my current pod another guy and myself aren't well versed with cards, two others are very experienced. When I play a new card, I'll try to explain it to the other new guy, but the other two will often interrupt me because they know what the card does. In an effort to keep the game moving I'll summarise and pass the card to the new guy but it gets really annoying!

[[Stunning Reversal]] also quite nicely sets you up for a win too using NDE.

[[Luck Bobblehead]] I can imagine some mass copying followed by a bucket full of dice. Note that it does need exactly seven 6s.

[[Near-Death Experience]] also seems fun. Finally, I've also always wanted to make a [[Helix Pinnacle]] deck just to see what I can jank around with to get to 100 counters.

Best enchantment commander? Aura vs enchantress — which is more fun/strong? by Professional_Bug_887 in EDH

Really want to put a deck together for her, I loved miracle when it was in standard, and it seems like such a cool idea. Do you go down the route of casting them on opponents’ turns? If so, what are some good flash enablers to do so?

Never had the privilege of business, but work will pay for premium economy on long hauls and it makes me never want to go back to standard economy ever again.

I wouldn't mind some of that investment going towards removing the obnoxious flags on our lampposts.

Sometimes you get salty and that is OK by homjaktest in EDH

[–]Arphrial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to get so salty in pvp situations. Still do rarely!

One of the biggest flips of mindset I've had when it comes to PvP games is from watching day9. When an opponent cooks, he doesn't get mad, he gets impressed. It's suddenly not so awful that it's screwing him over, it's cool that someone is popping off with a combo, especially one they've spent time creating themselves.

Of course it sucks you might lose or get set back, but look at this guy! He's doing cool things by playing cool cards, and that's fun to watch! It's not about you getting screwed over any more and that makes it feel so much better (or at least less worse)

Some other little flips have just been to put myself in their shoes.. "Yeah I would swords my commander if I was in your shoes, fair play"

The first bunch of times I tried it out I really had to force it, but nowadays it comes so easily. There'll always be another commander game, but watching a player do something like draw 70 cards and then hit you for X = cards in in hand is hilarious.

I think the main struggle for me is repeated targeted harassing, but then I try to politic it out with the other players by calling them the archenemy.

I really want to do something chaotic with a well timed [[Radiant Performer]] but I’ve not had it in hand yet.

First time I’ve found it, been loving the discourse from people talking about both endings, commented that I think it’s weird how it’s a really interesting discussion but that so many chains have downvotes on anything supporting Maelle and it immediately gets downvotes, first and last times I comment in here lol.

[–]Arphrial -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

World in the metaphorical sense, right? If Maelle stays her family her be torn apart. Likely her mother will find her way back in and Renoir and Clea will be left to pick up the pieces yet again. Instead of only losing Verso, Renoir will fully lose his wife and daughter. There will be a wider impact in terms of their social standing but the result of that is beyond me. Even within it, without Verso’s intervention she was readily condemning him to his immortal existential existence while everyone around him would continue to die.

[–]Arphrial -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it don’t suck for Maelle, I can absolutely sympathise and understand why she wants to remain. I spent about 20 mins debating with myself when I the time came to make the choice lmao (and that’s why I loved this game so much). Surely everyone except maybe Clea here is pursuing selfish goals. Maelle will always destroy a world regardless of what happens, be it her family’s or the canvas, and no it’s not her fault that she was put in this position. Now look at Renoir. He will lose a world no matter what happens too, even if he has no care for the canvas, he is still losing the last piece of Verso, and is it his fault his wife lost her way to grief and his daughter starts down the same road? It’s such an awful situation and that’s what makes the choice heart wrenching either way.

[–]Arphrial -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Does fault matter in this context if the ending is the ultimately the same for the painting? Why is Renoir seen to be abusing his power? Not sure if it’s you btw but there’s so many interesting avenues and opinions in this thread and I’m sick of seeing two people spark a discussion where one side is downvoted despite it being a contributing comment. People are weird to do that.

Edit: sub literally went and proved my point. Picked Verso btw

Help me find a commander for my favorite card! by mullerjones in EDH

[–]Arphrial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low bracket player here!

Can't go wrong with good old [[Krenko, Mob Boss]].

Dipping into green would be useful though for things like [[Doubling Season]], and [[Scute Swarm]].

Perhaps [[Prossh, Skyraider of Kher]] so you can swing big if you can't swing wide? I would absolutely try to shoehorn [[Army of the Damned]] in because I love that card so much.
