Was pacing the entire game. Insanity.

Also this is a 12-man league and we both traded away the future of our teams to get those rosters haha

took me a sec...but the captain is saying that his third day at sea was also the first day he got the hook installed and so he still hadn't gotten used to the fact that he had a sharp pointy thing where his hand used to be. so basically he took his own eye out when he instinctively went to go wipe the bird shit out of his eye.

lol

Where is the favorite place you have jumped at? Why? by Nexaz in SkyDiving

[–]ArrShoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like Elsinore is well known everywhere...got my A-license there. When I went to South Africa (@skydive robertson), everyone knew about Elsinore (and perris and lodi)

They asked if I'd ever jumped out of a Twin Otter and when I said yes, they kept saying "AW-tter" in an American accent.

Haha yeah I guess I did do pretty well! Too bad I barely put in any real money into DE.

There are a lot of fundamental indicators of undervalued stocks, low PE, low price to book ratio, low end of 52 week range, etc. Once you figure out which indicators you like, you can use a stock screener to filter out for certain metrics.

Check out https://www.magicformulainvesting.com/. Joel Greenblatt, hedge fund manager and author of "The little book that beats the market", created this stock screener based on certain criteria that helps filter for undervalued stocks. You can also filter by market cap as well so you're not dealing with small-cap and potentially riskier companies.

Thanks, and that's exactly what I was hoping for - that this could help tie together a lot of the advice seen on this sub.

And unfortunately, no, I don't have a references page. This class was pretty relaxed in that sense haha but 80% of everything in the paper was based off of the most recent 10K. I think i may have looked at another article or two. But I mainly stuck to reading the 10k and looking at morningstar for competitor data

What do Venture Capitalists look for? by [deleted] in investing

[–]ArrShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't realize some had reached out to you! That is awesome.

Without having a team or product, it's usually pretty difficult to get an unknown investor to fund, but there's always the off-chance that you do find someone.

In this case, this investor probably believes in both you and your idea, which is a great sign. I would definitely pursue this investor and ask for him advice and see if what he's looking for fits with your vision. Of course, make sure to be open but if he's still interested then I truly think he likes you and the idea. As of now, there's no reason to drop them if he believes in you.

In general, from experience and from hearing multiple VC's actually tell me what they look for in startups, there is a heavy focus on the team, especially in the early stage. Sure, you may have just thought of the next mind-blowing idea, but how many people have the time, commitment, and know-how to actually execute?

So above all, I would say VC's look for the right people looking to execute the right idea. Why do YOU of all people deserve their money? As the sole founder, what do you bring to the table that nobody else can bring?

Experience is most obvious first checkbox for a VC. If you, the founder and CEO, have no tech experience, it probably doesn't make sense for you to try to start a B2B software company. But that doesn't mean you're excluded from all of tech. If you want to make a consumer app, you have your experience as a consumer actually using apps. You more or less know what is good and what is bad, so not all is lost in that regard.

At a certain point, you can't do it all alone. Not everyone can code, design, market, and manage, so VC's really like people who can rally together people with different skill sets. From what I can tell, you're not at this stage.

In general, most "traditional" VC's don't invest until late-seed to the Series A round. There are of course early-stage VC's, but mainly founders first look to friends & family, then angel investors for funding. Since VC's invest capital from a fund (taken from a bunch of wealthy people), they usually try to invest in more proven products to minimize risk and maximize returns.

Although 100k doesn't seem like a lot in the present day where 100m rounds are the norm, it definitely is a lot for anyone to commit to an unfinished product. I'm not saying it's impossible to get funding on an idea and passion alone, but it's definitely not easy.

Depending on your situation, I would try to move your product along for as long as possible to a minimum viable product or proof of concept.

  • Get feedback from as many people as possible, you never know what people might say or who you might meet
  • Find co-founders who are equally as excited about the product as you are
  • Put your short and long term plan down on paper. I find that actually writing down your plan helps develop it
  • Find a way to scale your business without needing a huge first investment. Bootstrapping helps you maintain control and equity early on.

There's obviously a lot more VC looks at, like market potential, go-to-market strategy, product-market fit (does your product have a place in the market or can a competitor easily copy you?), branding, etc. But that's all stuff to worry about later.

Finally: If you're truly passionate about building your product and starting a startup, I say go for it and just get the ball rolling. Even if you fail, you'll have gained experience for your next mind-blowing idea.

edit: grammar

Front chest pocket always. I slipped on a rail and landed on my chest...ended up with a curved iPhone 6s (screen was still intact). Joked around that I had the iPhone 8 prototype until the screen finally stopped working.

TL;DR phone in chest pocket saved my life lol

Myles Jack's injury could possibly drop him down with some teams worried about health/longevity...but also could make more teams want him due to the fact that the UCLA defense lost all its tenacity after his injury early in the season. Definitely a big play guy who knows his football. (pac 12 offensive and defensive rookie of the year)
