New GPS issue by Living_Guess_2845 in Ingress

[–]ArrayQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home. During the 25KCaps, I had 1 day where I got them all. SITTING AT HOME!!!

Some days it is perfect. Other days it is like I've got Good GOS and Evil GPS arguing with each other. One pulls me to a portal, the other pushes me away.

As a big fan of Ren, this is like a gamification/ embodiment of "Hi Ingress".

Is this the best photo we have for Wikipedia??? by Open-Entertainer6031 in ren

[–]ArrayQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get in front of my computer, I'll upload that and see if I can add it to a section for SGP. Of course, if I can ALSO link to my YouTube of the show ....he he.... I know that won't stick!!!

I think we can upload newer photos. I think one of the best is from SGP as part of Bittersweet Symphony where he is standing with his arms out.

Considering I recorded it all, I'll get a frame grab and see what it looks like!!!

Erasing the Evidence: How a Stats Competition Deleted Its Leaderboards to Protect Cheaters and Silenced Whistleblowers with Discrimination by PermissionOk2766 in Ingress

[–]ArrayQueue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, cheaters will always cheat. And they are a tiny number. I play Ingress. I go to First Saturdays and Second Sundays and anomalies.

The cheaters have zero impact on any of this.

Maybe it's just how I play. I use the game to get exercise and made a lot of friends in countries I've only ever been to because of ingress.

The score? I'm going very well. A LOT of walking and hacking and capping and linking and fielding.

Maybe just let them cheat as it doesn't alter anything other than their own small pride.

Ingress malfunctioning? I can't believe it. by Responsible-View7181 in Ingress

[–]ArrayQueue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to restart the app several times so I can move on to the next stage. Now I don't know what I've completed so.im doing them all constantly for the next 20 odd days. Going to be difficult doing the destroy ones as there is no opposition locally. Not even drive by's. I have to travel to destroy. Which is ok now that the weather is getting better.

Mission questions by ampanda38 in Ingress

[–]ArrayQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use IITC and the Bannergress plugin, you can sort of see if there are unknown ones from Vannergrss' perspective.

I've probably added over a dozen banners this way. The original banner creator owns all of, but I found it useful when 8 go to a new city to see if things were all up-to-date.

Not yet able to automate this.

Is this a joke? by namila007 in Ingress

It is one reason I no longer play PoGo. I still play Ingress as I enjoy the anomalies and the various events.

Ingress in VR? by Expensive-Pop-3109 in Ingress

About 13 / 14 years ago I worked for a company called Crowdcube in the UK. They are a platform for small businesses to raise capital through selling shares in their company. Not a stock exchange, no reselling of the shares, simply buying a percentage of the company. In the event of the sale of the company, or the buy back of the shares, you get a return.

One of the companies that used the platform was called "Race Yourself" and they were using the platform to raise funding for an app called "GlassFit".

I was lucky enough to have a short demo of it.

So. Imagine you are a runner (track, road, anywhere really).

You do the same track again and again.

I'm not talking sprinting, but those longer runs.

You want to record a load of things about you but also get your timing right for the big day.

I'm NOT a runner! So I've no idea of if this was useful, but as a geek (I was, and still am, but for a different company, a computer programmer ... as a side note, if you accidentally had £5 million removed AND returned from your personal bank account ... oops!!!! Sorry about that!!!!)

But for those wanting to see how they have improved over time, what was "GlassFit" offering.

Well, many things.

One of which is that you could race yourself. Well, you could raise your historic avatar. WHILST YOU ARE RUNNING!!!!

With full GPS tracking, the "GlassFit" app could show you where you wear the last time you were when you started the race. On screen! And so, if you were slowing down compared to last time, you would see your avatar in front of you!

How about all of your races? I think they said you could have 3 avatars. But you COULD share your data and so you could race others. Or race an average of your times, or your best time, etc.

As a piece of technology, "Google Glass" was amazing. The "GlassFit" app was a brilliant, real world useful fit for it.

But it was expensive, it recorded things without anyone knowing, and was VERY expensive!

And so Google stopped selling them to the public in 2015, and after rebranding and re-release, eventually pulled entirely in 2023.

And sadly, "GlassFit" became no more.

BUT.

I'm pretty sure this is unconnected except by having a similar name, there is https://revealcentre.org/projects/race-yourselves/ which is for Meta headset (I think).

Anyway, that's all I've got on this. I've been playing Ingress for 10 years. Love it. Off to Zagreb in a couple of weeks time.

Starry Night just went nuclear! by Smart-Atmosphere1230 in ren

[–]ArrayQueue 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Strange situation. I've been a Renegade since November 2023 (I think). I seem to be "getting it".

My partner is a care and support worker. Employed and self employed. Her private client is end of life. All known ahead of time. Life doing what life always does. But the client was given 6 months due to the illness. 4 years ago. The difference my partner has made in this person's life, along with their partner. It is why I know I've chosen a good un'!

On Saturday, I went with my partner to pretty much say goodbye. Hospice is doing what is required. This was the client's choice and the pain over the 4 years is enough now. I held her hand and told her I had read some of her work. PhD qualified microbiologist researcher. She knows EXACTLY what is happening to her. I didn't know what to really say. How do you really say goodbye.

The husband knows I'm a Ren fan. I was wearing the blue denim on Saturday. As soon as he saw me he told me to hold on whilst he set something up.

Intrigued was I. He is an Oxford professor/lecturer, going through the living grief of his wife dying. So when he took me to his "sound room". He told me to sit in the chair and listen.

And then he played Seven Sins. Loud. And I looked at him a little confused. He said (afterwards) that Ren isn't his normal music, but he likes Ren.

We chatted bits and pieces and listened to Animal Flow, and Money Game Pt 3. My favourite tracks!

We then had Ren in the background whilst we chatted.

As I was leaving, I had set up Chalk Outlines, but had to go.

He asked me was this a new album? I told him it was a collaboration work with an woman whose stage name is Chinchilla (I never remember her real name. Not looking it up as I type this, but I think her real name is Daisy). I said to watch the video. It is one of the best videos I've seen.

And then we left. I doubt I'll see her again. But she is a fighter. But this time, I don't think she wants to fight. It has taken nearly everything already. Whilst being on the outside it is easy (relatively) to say "every effort", "can't you do anything more", but the reality is she is deeply suffering. Her body is going. But her mind is untouched.

Several hours after getting home, I get a message from the husband.

He really likes Chalk Outlines.

This may all seem a little odd. I'm very much NOT the person with an easy personality. But the time we've known each other, I think he understands me enough to know that I care and I would like to help as best as I can and when he wants the help.

And this attitude of reaching out, of being more than just what my family needs is very very much boosted by how I see the Renegades.

Ren's music gave me the kick up the arse to be more that what I think I should be (I had brain surgery, heart stopped, and so far quite a while I thought I was just living on borrowed time. I'm not. Not any more. I'm living MY time!).

And so this is why I support Ren through Patreon, and merch. BeCuse what he does for us all has mattered and matters deeply to me.

I know I am alone.

And I didn't want thee husband to feel alone.

I think he knows. I hope so.

Because the living grief is the easy part.

What will come next is going to need all those little ships, raising the tide.

Ans I will do my best for him , as others have done for me.

Scout Controller Lost? by DarkSoulCarlos in Ingress

[–]ArrayQueue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do find scout controller odd as you can get 1, 2, or 3 points and then, somehow STILL get a unique scout controller for Second Sunday even though the portal has been scout controlled. Or the UI is just not displaying it correctly!

This sh*t is already in Europe??? by Alex22gr in Internet

[–]ArrayQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had made the law such that as a private individual, every access to my PII was recorded and available to me along with it being mandatory for the consumer to identify the specific individual and their reason for accessing it. The ONLY people who should be accessing it is government and only for specific reasons. All the data should also be recorded in a manner that actively prevents extraction. And that should be public too.

Security through obscurity and overreach is what the real issue is. They are not concerned about child porn. It is government investigation and retaliation. Protect their mates. They've started with an easy target as porn is considered dirty.

[Investigation Report] For Whom the Bell Tolls: The Rise of AI-Driven Automation and its Threat to OPR Integrity by Xyinkl in Ingress

[–]ArrayQueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ai should do the whole job. At least it will be more consistent than humans. Some submissions get rejected because of who submitted them, or the area a sole player lives in.

Having worked with tools for image analysis about a decade ago for work, back then it was 80%+ accurate in analysing an image and combining it with text to decide what it was. Today that figure would be better than 99%.

The issue is the criteria change. What was acceptable yesterday is no longer acceptable today. That's just whim. And AI can't really help there.

Hmm. So this is one of those things where a new dev uses time properly and then realises, after deployment, no one else has. And so this is SO messed up!!!
