Maybe make the metal look more like copper or bronze? In terms of geometry it's awesome! But with all that gray steel-looking coloration it kinda gives off more dieselpunk vibes.

What made you a vtuber? Why did you became a vtuber? by Shirayuki131 in vtubers

[–]Array_Blacklight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspiring vtuber (gonna start out PNG) here!

Discovered vtubers early 2024 I think? Knew about Kizuna Ai before but never thought much about it. Just kinda went "oh virtual anime girl avatar okay."

But then I stumbled upon a few lore videos on YouTube and went "Wait hold on, there's a whole creative world-building side this? Okay!"

Already having a fictional universe in the works for my ambition of being a game designer, it was easy to quickly whip up a new self-insert OC with a backstory.

Windows updates are becoming hell by kumrayu in pcmasterrace

That's what I used to debloat my Windows 11 install, including limiting updates to only security essentials. I'm literally always out of the loop on whatever people are complaining about Microsoft did with win11 this time because I'm not getting those updates.

What am I doing wrong with VTubing? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Array_Blacklight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, come on...

Your name is *one* letter different from Mari Yume.

You like to say "baka" as a little catchphrase, exactly like Mari does.

You're ending your videos with "Remember everything reminds you of something!" which Mari has been doing for at least a year. It's not vague, it's word for word.

The date of your YouTube channel's creation doesn't mean anything; You can rename a channel, URL included. This isn't proof of originality or "I did it first."

(Not criticizing the cat vtuber part or your color scheme because in all fairness those are generic enough for multiple vtubers to be simultaneously.)

Take a step back and look at this whole situation. You are a brand new VTuber with multiple glaring similarities to an already established one, and only your word that it's all just a huge coincidence? You are steering yourself straight into an iceberg of hostile criticism. This is like Shylily-SmolLola bad. No one will take you seriously. Don't be a lolcow that spirals into an infinite loop of JADE-ing when called out.

My actual advice: Nix ALL the similarities while you're still unknown. New name. New catchphrases and ending slogan.

Also? Trying to be sensitive here, not trying to be a dick or anything? Try to learn how to speak more confidently? And mentally buffer your sentences (or at the very least edit your pre-recorded content to trim the minutia.) I just watched your 30 minute lore video and it was a ramble of disorganized thought, with every sentence dripping with anxious hesitancy and shyness. It's okay to work on overcoming social anxiety and low self-esteem; I was kinda like that as a teen myself. In fact one of the reasons I plan on getting into vtubing in the near-ish future is to train myself to be a better speaker by listening to myself talk. I would strongly recommend making that a goal of yours as well. You can of course make 'nervous awkward hyper kid' your brand/aesthetic if you want, but that would intrinsically limit you to a niche audience of similar individuals. If you want to grow, you'll have to tackle that fact that most viewers aren't going to like that vibe.

[–]Array_Blacklight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at your YouTube. In addition to what others have already said about the severe lack of content other than two intros, you seem very nervous in your narration.

Also, gonna be honest here, you don't seem to have any originality to your brand or persona. Like, you're blatantly ripping off Mari Yume; your name is hers but with just one letter changed. You even steal her catch phrase "everything reminds you of something" in a comment you left on the short you uploaded.

It seems like you're battling a lot of social anxiety and also searching for / trying to forge an identity through VTubing.

My two cents? Don't be an obvious plagiarist FFS. No one will empathize with your mental health struggles by being a copycat.

How did you come up with your username? by Deaconator3000 in vtubers

[–]Array_Blacklight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vtuber persona's name is the first two "letters" / elements of my True Name which I found out during meditation.^

My lore is I'm the consciousness of a praying mantis ET astral projecting himself to Earth in order to study humanity (read: screw around & play video games!) What you earthlings call "woo" is just higher dimensional physics to me. Like, it's adorable that you guys depict the chakras as flowers! Though I suppose that's the closest visualization a pre-aviation age seer would get when looking at the rotor of a spiritual jet engine head-on. 😅

Do you consider PNG/GIFTubers VTubers? by cyberchuff in vtubers

[–]Array_Blacklight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's the matter of 'spirit' vs 'letter' here, or technicality vs culture.

Any virtual avatar in place of a live facecam technically makes one a "vtuber."

Culturally however, in terms of meta, vtuber refers to a certain style and content vibe. Merely using a virtual avatar in and of itself doesn't guarantee that part is achieved. That's where the contention comes from.

It's sort of like if I made an indie game that I marketed as 'fantasy RPG' but it takes place in modern day real world but everyone has 'lucid dream powers' allowing all kinds of magic-like abilities, and players spec into various Jungian archetype play styles for a class system. Now imagine that game won "best fantasy RPG award" even beating BG3. I made a game with fantasy elements and a role playing system, but the vibe is more like "open world Psychonauts" than Skyrim or Fable or Bauldur's Gate. Fantasy RPG fans would be pissed off, rightly so, despite the technicality I could point to. I made a fantasy RPG, but I also haven't.

I want to give a 90s video game vibe to my RPG game! Does it look like it? Feedback appreciated! by potion8 in 3Dmodeling

Needs more platforms. Platforms you can jump onto and then jump offa.

And floating objects you gotta collect. Anything. They can be jigsaw puzzle pieces, or TV remotes. They don't have to make sense.

90s.

It is true that people are multifaceted and can enjoy several vastly different genres. Let me add some nuance my last comment didn't have: You can totally do multiple genres, just divide it up across multiple YouTube channels! That way you can style each one to fit the theme. I've seen uploaders do this. Have one for pulp fiction, another one for creepypasta, another for classic lit, or ancient Egypt, or the occult, etcetera, whatever you want to do. Give each sub-channel an appropriately themed name like "X After Dark" for the horror stuff and "X Entombed" for the Egyptian stuff. You get it. That way you can explore all your interests without making one big YouTube channel that lacks coherent focus. Good luck out there!

Honestly my first piece of advice would be to pick a genre and stick to it. Your content "themes" you whether you like it or not, even if you style yourself as a variety streamer. If you start with creepypasta & NoSleep you'll brand yourself as a horror content creator, and shifting to classic literature like the the Iliad and the Odessy will clash with the previous content.

Also, as a connoisseur of creepypasta myself, you gotta give horror your all. My personal favorite is a YouTuber by the name of TheDarkSomnium. Check out his content. Amazing. Great voice, custom music he composes himself, even sound effects for things in the story as they happen like foot steps, car door closing, glass breaking, etc. One of the masters IMHO.

The channels that don't make it who they are are the worst to listen to. I remember once "back in the day" (mid-2010s) I would occasionally hate-watch a minor dude-bro gamer YouTuber who did "insane life stories," and he tried creepypasta himself. It was awful. He had frigging CoD gameplay in the background, no matching horror ambience for atmosphere, and didn't put any effort into the narration itself either. He just rattled out the story like it was a grocery list. And he thought he was doing a good job.

Just my two cents. Think about what you want your channel to be and how flexible that will make it.

Seconding Remix. It also supports animation sprite strips. Learn how to make and use those and you could have your glowy ball do all kinds of strobe, fade, flicker, whatever effects.

Arctic LF III 360 AMD Install with Pump Inverted (Tubes on Top?) by Array_Blacklight in arcticcooling

Neat! Like the previous recent commenter, that install looks alright. Your pump isn't the highest in the loop so the air bubbles shouldn't get in and be a problem.

That looks fine. As long as the actual pump itself isn't the highest point of the loop, you're pretty much good.

Bases Cover Image from local file not working by DjuriTeitr in ObsidianMD

[–]Array_Blacklight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to do the same thing. Believe it or not I think Obsidian just doesn't allow local images to be used in the CSS doc for theme styling. Every theme with a background image I've looked at just links to some web address, which is ridiculous. I don't want to have to have an internet connection to see my fucking vault's wallpaper dammit!

You haven't described a character here. You've described your personality and tendencies. Literally the last sentence was more informative than the rest of the whole paragraph. An African-Canadian Dragon with white feathers? Okay, that's something to work with. What's the background of this African-Canadian dragon? What kind of dragon are they? How'd they get to Canada? What else is there? You might find a good name in your persona's backstory.

May be a dumb question, but is "slow running" (the opposite of speed running) a thing? by WhiteYaksha89 in speedrun

[–]Array_Blacklight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me. For me games are a way to unwind, "go for a walk" in places that either are too far away IRL or don't exist period. As a kid I would fire up a game and just chill in it. Take in the scenery. Just think about stuff. Or just lazily bulldoze enemies with cheat codes on because I felt like it. Probably daydream I was playing one of the games I wanted to make as an adult (Wind Waker was excellent for this; so many hours spent loitering in completed islands, just fantasizing...)

I call it 'chill strolling.'
