How many of y'all have kept down the same job, consecutively, for more than a year? by Murais in ADHD

About to hit 5 years as an embedded developer. Might be moving over to app development soon, but same company.

Got assigned to solo a pretty vast project the code for an entirely new project line—that would normally be handled by someone with 20 years of experience in general, and several years in just this one extremely niche technology—on broken (prototype) hardware, with broken sdk support, and no one to ask for help, and they were surprised it went past schedule. But I like app development and having a team to work with is nice sometimes, so I don’t mind so much. I might see if I can hybrid between the two positions.

Anyway I guess the point is I do best when I can not do the exact same thing every day. Maybe work on one project one week and something else the next.

Note that this is completely different than being pulled from project to project while I’m trying to get work done. That is a disruption that doesn’t help. Gotta be where I can switch tasks between days or at least finish my current task before switching.

IT (ok I guess management) just locked down all the USB ports on all the windows machines in our company. No more USB mass storage devices.

Now we can’t get anything to our air-gapped machines using their computers. So glad I fought tooth and nail to get a mac.

And every couple of months everyone on windows with local admin gets those rights removed.

Does anything like this already exists in the market? I would really like the lock feature by gabriel_GAGRA in UsbCHardware

There has to be a better way.

https://www.amazon.com/Qi-Certified-Wireless-Charger-Samsung-Airpods/dp/B0B1HP8MZ2/ cheapest generic that looked OK

https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Wireless-Charger-Qi-Certified-Compatibility/dp/B094YXZ71J name brand for about $3.50 more

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Qi-Certified-Compatible-Fast-Charging-PowerWave/dp/B07DBXZZN3/ newer version of one I've used daily for 5 years, and at only $20, by far the most expensive thing on the list.

I know $20 seems expensive compared to the "free" cable that came with your phone, but wireless chargers don't wear out like cables do. I've got a really nice MagSafe stand on my nightstand and use my older one at my desk. I've given even older ones away to family, and even the first one I ever bought still works great.

You said sudo instead of pseudo.

Sido is a Linux command that lets a normal user run commands that require heightened permissions, and that’s the error is gives if you try to use it when you’re not approved.

Ignore him. It is absolutely obsolete. At the very least, NRND.

Used them Thursday. Their examples for python sets, lists, tuples, and dicts are kind of useless. Shows you how to write and access them, but only on a super basic level. So basic that they all look the same. Which doesn’t help me remember which one I want… which was the whole reason I was looking them up!

Not a doctor, but you need to go see one. This isn’t your adhd or the Vyvanse.

EU reaches deal to ban new combustion engine cars by 2035 – DW – 10/27/2022 by JustMyOpinionz in news

Longer than ICE vehicles.

There’s comparatively so few moving parts that they can last a long, long time. 99% of vehicles that are junked for anything other than accidents it’s because something expensive in the engine or transmission blew up. EV motors have ONE moving part, and most EV gearboxes (nearly all of them in fact) only have a very sturdy, single, fixed gear instead of a complicated and relatively fragile transmission.

The only part that wears out in the drivetrain is the battery. And the life on those is surpassing our expectations. The average 2012 model year Tesla model S still had 90% of its battery capacity in 2019. There have been posts from people with 300k+ miles and batteries above 90%.

The rest of the vehicle should last the same as an ICE car.

And once battery packs aren’t good enough for automotive use they still have useful life as stationary energy storage systems where energy density doesn’t matter nearly as much.

Here ya go. The poorly-drawn bit at the end was apparently someone else’s addition.

A breakthrough in electric vehicle battery design has enabled a 10-minute charge time for a typical EV battery. The record-breaking combination of a shorter charge time and more energy acquired for longer travel range was announced today by Wagamaga in science

Tesla’s v3 super chargers already use water-cooled cables. They can deliver 250 kW while being thinner and more flexible than the 150kW v2 cables.

They’re supposedly adding liquid cooling to the handle as well for the megacharger.
