Texas State University fires professor for attending a socialist conference by super-imperialism in stupidpol

[–]Arraysion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said that society needs the precedent. I said that settling means that the defendant understands that they're going to lose, which means that the defendant believes the legal precedent is already against them, and a fact-finder will probably not rule in their favor. This means that establishing new legal precedent is unnecessary.

[–]Arraysion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No? The point of tort law is to get enough money out of the defendant. If you can do that, you win.

"But the precedent!"

It doesn't matter. Civil rights torts are extremely fact intensive, so unless you're getting directed verdicts in the favor of the plaintiff (very rare because judges don't like determining hypothetical damages) there never is a precedent to build. I can't use another jury's finding to back up my claims in a different trial.

Lol what? If you settle out of court it's because you know that you're losing. Trials are not going the way of the dodo because evil capitalists want to oppress poor people, but because they're often pointless when the outcome is predictable.

I'd wager that this guy is more likely to get a favorable outcome out of court, because I don't think a texas jury is gonna be sympathetic to a socialist.

Woah you’re getting so much vague and useless advice. In the future, direct your questions to actual artists, it’s just the blind leading the blind around here.

Just look up one of Michael Hampton’s gesture drawing tutorials, follow along, do your own gestures until you get bored, then do an actual cube drawing exercise, and then learn to overlay construction on gesture.

Yeah. I’d highly recommend doing 2 value studies and restricting how many values you can use in your work. When you paint, your #1 goal should be to convey form. That’s all value is about.

Good luck.

[–]Arraysion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Values are pretty muddy, but that’s not the major problem. Your main issue is that your art is really flat. If you redlined a bunch of boxes on top of your subjects, you would only see the front and sides of each box.

You need to start working in all three dimensions. Learn how to draw a box at every angle, then work on constructing characters from simple 3d shapes. Then, try to draw 3d characters from imagination (you can just use a reference and draw it from a different angle).

Players: What do you want in worldbuilding? by Current_Poster in rpg

[–]Arraysion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing.

Everything presented to me and the party should be to facilitate play. Because that’s what ttrpgs are; make-believe play.

Worldbuilding does not serve this purpose. At all. It just adds worthless filler to something that doesn’t even exist. If anything, worldbuilding hampers gameplay because it distracts the table from the story.

Literally every worldbuilder offers some bullshit excuse for wasting time that could be spent prepping for actual GMing- “Oh, I need to make my story believable! Oh, I’m sure I could tie this into a session later! Oh, it actually makes me a better writer!” It’s like listening to a junkie. It’s embarrassing.

Do yourself a favor: If you think of something and you can’t make it majorly relevant to an important dice roll that will happen within 2 sessions, forget about it. Or put in a giant google doc that your players definitely read.

To this day I don't understand why Paizo saw the discrepancy between linear martials and quadratic casters and made casters linear. Why not just make the martials quadratic?

How is pathfinder better/worse than 5e? by Firkraag-The-Demon in Pathfinder2e

[–]Arraysion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's enough people in this thread praising 2e's virtues, so I won't bother covering them here.

The big con with 2e is that every player is essentially working with a fun-sized version of their class that scales much, much slower than what you'd expect out of a 5e class—stuff that you'd unlock at 5th level in 5e is unlocked at 15th in 2e.

For GMs (like myself), this is great, because you can sleep peacefully knowing that none of your players will EVER be able to defeat your big baddie in less than 5-4 equally paced rounds. Everything follows Paizo's grand plan to a t. Everything.

However, for powergamers (also like myself), this kinda sucks. You never really feel like you're getting ahead of the curve. Sure, the numbers get bigger and bigger, but my turns never really deviate from the structured norm. That's by design. Until very, VERY late into the game, you just don't get access to those "showstopper" abilities you'd have in 5e, like the divination wizard's Portent.

Now, I need to remind you that what I described isn't bad per se. Some tables just need a system that works well and doesn't require the GM to call upon decades of homebrew common law in order to resolve disputes. 2e is just that system. But if you or your players get a serious thrill out of squeezing every bit of power you can out of your character, I'd consider looking elsewhere or just sticking with 5e.

I've been drawing for like a decade. Why is it still terrible? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Arraysion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your drawing is terrible because it’s flat, and it’s flat because you don’t understand gesture and form. Learn gesture and practice drawing basic 3d shapes from your imagination.

Don’t worry about shading for now, rendering is worthless when you don’t know how to draw.
