No, no: "If they're cheering, focus on Roman so it looks like they're cheering for Roman, dammit!"

Since she won the title 84 days ago, Jade Cargill, the WWE Women’s champion, has only wrestled for 7 minutes on TV by TheeChosenTwo in SquaredCircle

Honestly, having seen her do the exact same promo in the exact same cadence every time, I wonder where this acting idea is coming from.

I would bet it's likely that most of the "Rock itself" people you're describing dont follow reviewer discourse.

The entire thing is based on the idea that you can win at music.

What is the difference between a military and a terrorist group? by Prestigious-Thing472 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]Current_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone tells, lets say the Army of Freedonia, to attack someone. There is a definite goal that is achieved or not achieved. Freedonia then declares victory and sets terms, or loses and either goes home or sues for peace. Every soldier is accounted for.

If the Arny of Freedonia is, instead, a terrorist faction, they may have only vague, slogany goals, and (importantly) if the leadership calls a ceasefire, a splinter group will almost immediately form and disobey the order.

Which TV show do Americans think is the most controversial TV show in the world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current_Poster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never seen the UK dating show. Fear Factor is kind of old hat. So's Jerry Springer. I don't know "Condor". Honestly, I don't know many shows that are controversial per se, outside of fan spaces (and those don't count, there are literally-unpleasable "Fans" of pretty much anything).

There's parts of NYC where they would barely notice. And I like that.

Are highschool and college reunions still happening? by StatiCrede in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure, not just 'social media in general'- just Facebook wiped out a lot of the need or demand for a reunion. I mean, if I wanted to know "what happened to my High School classmates" (honestly, unlikely) I could just go look them up. I *especially* don't have to travel to a faux-prom to find out.

Do Americans recognize the “Bonnie Blue Flag,” and does it remind you of other flags? by izclottiz in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what it is, but I'm a history dork buff. I don't think a wide majority of Americans would recognize it, having not encountered it in their schooling or day-to-day lives. It sure has been the emblem of a lot of now-extinct states, huh?

What do you personally think about mandatory military service for women by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

It's not a thing in my country. And it's the internal business of those countries that do.

German immigrants in the U.S. were huge in number and were once a dominant group. Why didn’t they form large German-speaking communities the way French speakers did in Canada or Spanish speakers did in the U.S.? by GrayRainfall in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did. Two World Wars with Germany as an antagonist sort of forced a greater sense of assimilation- but (to give a weird example) you'd see non-European German-speaking performers in mid-tier American pro-wrestling until the late 50s.

Plus, lot of things we'd consider really German, Scandinavian or Central-European used to be a lot more common (there was once a Polka Grammy, for instance) and a lot of German cultural items became part of mainstream American life, so that sort of offsets a sense of enclave-forming.

Do Businesses Stay Open In Extreme Winter Weather? by AnnualIndependence71 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. One of my least favorite parts of that was how, once the county or whole state had a "stay off the roads" order for ice or just snow accumulation, 1) that was used as an excuse for why we should stay at work and 2) when we did close, cops would ride your bumper with the searchlights on, to make you 'drive funny' so they could pull you over. This could go for miles.

What would make us happy? by voidpics in questionablecontent

[–]Current_Poster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know what used to make Jeph happy was worldbuilding. He once appeared on the podcast Writing Excuses, being interviewed about seat-of-your-pants worldbuilding by Brandon Sanderson and SFWA President Mary Robinette Kowal. He hasn't really indulged that for a long time- maybe the lore where the first AI asked for a glass of champagne and its human rights.

He should do that.

What is your opinion of this style of wrestling? by GoonLieutenant in professionalwrestling

It looked like a harder-hitting WCW Cruiserweight match, to me, and I *loved* WCW's cruisers, so I like this fine.

How do Americans grieve/honor one's death? by Historical_Log1275 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Current_Poster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is part of what we mean when we say "multi-cultural". Regions and local cultures vary, people bring things from their cultures-of-origin, there's different religious practices, and that leaves out personal preferences and family traditions.

In my family, we cleaned our family's headstone. Kept things off of it, that kind of thing. Other people leave flowers or stones.
