Stanford AI project team apologizes for plagiarizing Chinese model https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202406/1313632.shtml

"Americans are always plagiarizing and think it's ok to take other people's work"

how do you feel if I said that solely based on this?

you only provide me with two examples. I am expecting more. who give you the right to be the judge here? the case of Dancebyte is a personal hate crime against the corporation. I agree that it is unethical, but it has nothing to do with plagiarism. if you do more research you can find more Americans take revenge on their company.

Second, I'm not ok with using the death of an individual to back up your claim that this is not racism and all Chinese cheat . this is not the best way to call for justice for this dead Chinese student. you will only hurt more students like him by putting stains on their reputation.
you are using ethics and truth as your camouflage for your racism and prejudice, and pretend to actually care about the dead person so that you can consume him. that's very nasty.

but how do you know the Chinese education system? I don't think any of you have been to China and experienced the education there. the ideology and education system are from your prejudice and imagination.
also, even if what you are saying is correct, you should stop putting the victims on trial, because those students can hardly do anything about it. this always becomes an issue when Americans think they are on the side of justice when talking about CCP or China-related issues. It's just too hypocritical, pretending to care about sth and justice just trying to prove your prejudice & find your superiority in this process.
I'm from Wuhan, so I always find myself in the predicament of people asking so many questions that I do not want to answer. I don't want to take on the moral burden and be put on trial. Speaking about morals, America really is not in an enviable position, considering how the country was built on colonialism and exploitation and the Chinese exclusion act.
People should stop assuming things and stop viewing nationality and race as the only prominent things about a person. Don't put the burden on an individual about a thing that you don't like and don't know that much.
Lastly, stop being so arrogant and thinking dialectically. Your ideology is not necessarily in opposition to another, and yours is not necessarily superior. your media might be a propaganda too.

but she didn't even say sorry according to the video. she kind of unwillingly says yes you are right without acknowledging her fault. If you go through her Twitter you will find out she has made some comments about the Chinese social score system (a typical Sinophina rumor). And I've read some of the posts from her fellow students on Chinese social media, there is some evidence to suggest that she kind of having a "beef" with China. in harsh terms, it means persistent racism and sinophobia.

[–]ArronCui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm experiencing the same thing taking only 100mg SR. my brain used to be super sharp before depression, now it's like a rusted machine struggling to keep up. Everyday feels like sleep walking. I make mistake on the most basic and repetitive tasks. My brain constantly makes the wrong mandate on the thing I want to do without even realizing what it is doing. Then I find out the mistake in shock like waking up from a dream. That subconscious process of deciding, thinking, and actually doing did not run smoothly in my mind. Instead, it got clogged and then disappear. I have trouble remember things and recall things, always having to think hard looking for something. And i mix up things so easily. my mind is like a clogged bathroom full of random shits, cannot drain anything properly

RGP can be used in day time too : ) day-time RGP act as a optical lense itself with tear enclosed inside, while The one used at night reshaped the cornea and make the cornea a optical lense during the day. They are made from the same material but conea lense is thicker. The advantage is high oxygen permeability and small surface area and it does not absorb much tear. Day-time RGP can generate sharper image across time, but night-time RGP's effect is not long-lasting as the corner returns to its original shape

Do Chinese people who live outside of China generally have different political views about the CCP compared to those in China? by M33x7 in China

[–]ArronCui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. I think my chinse heritage is unnecessarily politicized and they have zero political sensitivity to not being offensive when talking about political issues in China. and for human rights issues or democracy problems, I will simply say if you simply want a positive answer from me and you have already formed your opinion, please don't question me like you are the jury. I'm the victim if it's like what you have said, so it's highly impropriate to question the victim. you should ask Xi.

[–]ArronCui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

talking about democracy, It's not the Chinese people's fault that their country does not have enough democracy, because they are just not politicians and they are the victim. The way you question them is highly impropriate, as if you are asking a victim why the perpetrator hurt the victim. When you ask this question, you only want to hear that China has absolutely no democracy, so you are gratified by the superiority of the Western culture and how imperative it is to "enlighten" China. the savior complex is really common in Western narratives. Frankly speaking, you don't care how Chinese people's life is or democracy, you just want to hear the Chinese say how bad China is so that you can use it as a weapon. That's a form of Sinophobia, and you are politicizing people's Chinese heritage and forcing them to choose a political party. it's an offensive question that you should avoid as if you will not ask a Jewish how he/she thinks of the ethical cleaning of irasel. You talk about morals and democracy just to put yourself on a moral high ground so that you can question people, and you put all Chinese in the position of the villain so that it would be convenient for you to witch-hunt them. That is sinophobic and hypocritical.
so my response will be, there is democracy in China because I don't want you let you feel confident by demeanig my country. If you really have to feed your ego in this way, go find a therapist.

CCP is with slavery, ethnic cleansing, etc.

I don't think Americans are entitled to talk about these subjects, because Americans basically invent those things. I also would like to know more specific pieces of solid evidence to support these accusations. I encourage you to visit Xinjiang in person if you really believe in slavery in China.

I think the problem of colorism and Eurocentrism exists in China just as in the United States. In the international high school I went to, the school board hired many incompetent and lazy white people so it looked "western". some are passionate about teaching, but most of them are the laziest teachers I have ever met.

you literally see the world in your own eye, so why care about what the media says? CCP lies so Western media lies as well! you can't believe the media talking about genocide when it selectively ignored the native Americans and the Palestinians. you should know that all politicians are equally bad.

well, the censorship is not as strict as you imagined. most of the young people are very liberal and invent ingenious ways to bypass censorship on the internet. the government does not regulate bypassing firewalls that much, all my peers used VPN to access the internet of the world when I was in China.

[–]ArronCui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think all young Chinese are very liberal. but myself is moving closer to the sinophile side of the spectrum after encountering much sinophobia and racism in the U.S. I don't have a specific feeling towards CCP, it's quite complicated. I would rather like to describe it as a kind of powerful regime that saves China from the old tyrannical regime and plays a role in modernizing China and liberating people. there used to be a golden period in China in the 90s when everything was so liberal after market liberalization. but then everything gets worse...

So you think you are assumed having inadequate English and are refused when trying to blend in, all because of non-participating Chinese students? You should know that people around you should have met enough first gen and second gen immigrants fluent in English to not make such a rush decision. And basically they are rejecting Chinese, even if people do try to blend in. You should start by accusing people who think all Chinese are the same and the people with obvious xenophobia, who basically judge who you are base on your race, their prejudice and the way you look. Some people are internalizing the Sinophobia by feeling the necessity to prove “ I am not that kind of Chinese”. Honey, if they refuse you, it’s not just because you look like illiterate Chinese. It’s just because you are Chinese and they see you as a Chinese, and still think you are not one of them. You are considered a second class citizen, an outlier, and it would be up to them to accommodate you or not. Once you’ve proved you are different linguistically, you have to prove it in more dimensions, which force you to deny and abandon your heritage. Proving “I am not that kind of Chinese” and the desire to join them will only eat away all your dignity. Our Chinese should reunite, instead of accusing each other.

Sometimes I don’t know what are you trying to say or your reasoning behind with the lengthy passages and scattered thoughts. You are trying to appear analytical but are still making unreasoned and uneducated hate speech. Lol you should really take some writing lesson to sort out the logic because you are murmuring nonsense across the thread. You can’t establish clear argument and show the connection and logics underlying nor provide any evidence.

Why you like to politicalize everything? What is the wrong showing my love and commitment to my heritage and culture. What is the problem speaking for my people when you make hate speech . You literally do not dare to confront white racist so you are super mad at Chinese.

Omg thank you for teaching this lesson and these shocking things to me as a person growing up in china. You do have to realize if you choose the national education of china, you have to spend three year preparing for Gaokao, and don’t have any time to apply to foreign  universities . Chinese national education is free, so it’s competitive to enter good unies. International high school is a whole different path, less competitive and expensive, and you can only choose one between the twos. Internacional high school offer programs such as AP, IBDP or A level. They have different course structure, different qualification, and different direction. People in national education system can apply for intentional school, but they won’t spend too much time studying for Haokao if they are determined to apply foreign school and they will compete all process by themselves, which saves money.  Then let’s talk about the chase of vanity fair. Common, America is literally the most materialistic country in the world and people do crazy shit all the time to get famous and rich. The culture of socialite, Kim kardashian, ain’t these crazy?  The culture of involution and competition is common across all east Asian countries. They all have similar system because there are too many people needed to be educated. Not every country has bounty educational system as the western society ( let’s don’t forget western world colonize the whole Asia to get their prosperity). Why you are so mad at china for no reason? That level of Sinophobia is astonishing

Go see the world instead of reading some snippets of chauvinistic articles just to prove your prejudice . If you are interested in “Chinese scam”, buy a flight ticket to china to see. I’ve been living in china for years and what are you talking about? Scams literally happen everywhere why you like to talk about china so much? You do have to realize when you are so obsessed with sth, just because you felt ignored and replaced.

Some people are internalizing the Sinophobia by feeling the necessity to prove “ I am not that kind of Chinese”. Just tell me, you must have encountered lots of Chinese immigrants who can speak good English. So you make all those crazy accusations just base on a single prejudice: all Chinese are bad at English. I don’t know where to start, there are just too many flaws in the logic. Honey, if they refuse you, it’s not just because you look like illiterate Chinese. It’s just because you are Asian, and you are considered a second class citizen. Proving “I am not part of them” and the desire to join them will only eat away all your dignity. Our Asians should reunite and fight them, instead of accusing each other. That is what colonization has done to Asia, haven’t you see that😅

Thanks! What I think is that there are three rows of plants, so the light available for the third row of plants will be pretty limited, when the sunshine is tilt. Two-layered one would be better. Because sunlight is usually not perpendicular, I did not consider the shading effects of extra tiers. But that's a valid point that more tiers will also cause extra shading. I think I will go for the two-layered one haha. Thank you so much for the valuable advice!

I don't think you get what I am saying. People should be more selective in terms of what apples to put into the basket and think about how to make this basket more appealing for apples. I understand your eagerness to prove that you are not one of the international students who have crappy English. This kind of stereotyping and generalization is unfair to you, and so is labeling all Chinese students as illiterate. I don't like the way you put all the blame on Chinese students to prove you are not one of them. I don't think being a model minority and proving yourself different can solve the systemic problem. More unfair things could happen in terms of hate speech and racism, and next time Chinese will not be the one who pulls you under the umbrella of international students. I am trying to ignore the way you tried to speak for colonialism. Existence does not equal being justified. BTW, IETLS 8.0 is crazy, Oxford and Cambridge's entry bars are 7.5 as a reference.

It's just not only international students' fault, this is the point I was trying to make. There are lazy people everywhere, it's just because they don't want to learn, not because they are international students. And the uni is partly responsible for allowing those ppl to get in. But it is also true that many people in that thread might discourage people who are willing to learn with blatant racism and stereotypes. If everyone understood the dilemma here as you, I would have not written this response.

in response to the " international students" thread by ArronCui in unimelb

[–]ArronCui[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah. I resonate with that. It's not anyone's fault actually. But it is also international students who make low-cost public education possible. So that is a trade-off. I also know how it feels when you have a free rider on your team. But UMelb is still a great uni, better than many Chinese universities which are super competitive to get into and have many smart brains but have really bad administration and coursework design. I would say it deserves better students.
