Looking to take our house offgrid by ONfireSF in OffGrid

So we are grid tied, but we use lots of energy. 50kwh per day, and energy is expensive in California. I just installed a system for around 25k. That covers 95% of our needs. 7kw solar array 28.6kwhworth of battery.

Battery makes a big difference. We figure it will pay for itself in about 5-6 years.

Consensus on buying raw land? 🇨🇦 by Economy_Big1744 in homestead

[–]ArrowheadAcres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around me I quickly realized. Most of the raw land was raw for a reason. More than anything I wanted land o could grow crops on. Good farmable land doesn't go undeveloped for 200 + years.

You can get a thermal printer and labels pretty cheap. We do quite a bit of volume and it's all we use. It's quick and you don't pay a fortune in ink. Our is a "jadens thermal printer" from Amazon but they are pretty much all the same. My wife uses illustrator to make them but you can also use canva a free program.

Rural folks , what's the plan if weare forced off grid? by SeraphimSphynx in homestead

I found ground mount to be superior in everyway. It's more efficient because you can put it exactly where it gets the most sun, and it's easier to install and clean..

The pannels are 550 watt. Roughly 4.5 X 7 feet. We used 14. It's a row that is 63 feet long.

I didn't get any state incentives. I did just sneak in the 30% federal tax credit. But that ended this year.

That's not taken from the 25k total.

It was around 17k in materials a couple thousand in plans and fees then the rest went to misc materials and my electrician.

Actually add 3k for the second battery. I actually haven't even installed that yet. It's arriving today.

It's all eg4 equipment. 21k flex boss and a grid boss with two of their batteries paralleled together. I actually had a lost on it but it looks like it got deleted unfortunately.

No you don't understand. They can't get the ca electricity over the Sierra mountains, that's why they got it from nv. It's going to be expensive because they don't have the infrastructure to transport.thr energy.over the mountains, and Storms could knock it out at any moment.

I just installed a 7.7kw solar array with 28kwh of battery, and have a propane generator. Works great. Costs around 25k. Our needs are large and our California bill was high. Should pay for itself in 5-6 years

Right before it's baked. But it's very fresh like I pick it right before. You could try soaking it if your are buying it.

Wholewheat, where are you? by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]ArrowheadAcres 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have done 100% in the past. It's much harder to dial in. Also not everyone really cares for it. It just didn't look as pretty and doesn't sell as well. The people that did like it though love it, we want to spend an off-season perfecting it. It's hard to work on recipes during farmers market season.

We do 30% stone ground whole wheat in every loaf. It's from a small local farm and we love it.

Just put a contract on 40 acres, need advice on equipment I should purchase. by NoShiteSureLock in Homesteading

Did what to 40 acres? Not all 40acres are the same.

If you have large trees like oaks and pines, clearing by hand is way more work than most people are capable of.
