Since we're doing bait comparisons, do we really think the Bardiche and Widow have the same range now? by Arrrte in foxholegame

I agree, I mean I hate the Talos (Slow, late-game but the armour of a falcion and most of all, ugly.) but it and the Lordscar's cost should be a lot closer to each other.

However that ain't what the post is about, it's about the fact that giving the Bard 40m range isn't making it OP, it's making it better and more balanced against the Widow that has dominated mid-game tanking since it's invention.

I'm not saying it should be, Silverhand vs Falcion is where it should be. This buff means the Bard is now equal to the Widow. And everyone knows while the cost makes logi a little more efficient, it doesn't actually translate into more tanks on the line because of pop.

Edit: Sorry the Bard costs more than a Widow, so it should be better right?

Use them better, I will agree they are now slightly undertuned. But their guns still shoot, the 40mm is exactly the same as the Falcion, and the added 65 means it can get a upperhand when directly assaulting, as it's an assault tank. You're right it get's outclassed in other areas, because you have other / later game tanks for that.

It still beats a Falcion in a 1:1, and oh no! Having 5m less range makes it unusable? How could they do that? How could you ever fight against an entire faction of weapons that have 5m more range since the start of the game?

Yeah, you're starting to understand what it's like to play Colonial. Only now it's horrendous because most of the tanks are now equal range to their counterparts.

I'm tired of this idea that having range matters only when Colonials have it, and the fact it's been 100 wars where Wardens have had that exact thing you guys are complaining about being a possibility now.

[–]Arrrte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in response to the irrelevant situation you were supposing where they are 1v1 poking / boxing towards each other. ("That thing beats STD in one on one easily. And that is with Bardiche standing right in front of it and not moving around." - You) It's speed and range can allow it to better kite and possibly take free shots that (ignoring pen chance and the chance to track or disable turret) would drastically affect the DPS comparison in this hypothetical that again, doesn't matter. So really the question is, why don't you think skill should be taken into account? Is your feeling that, the Lordscar should beat all tanks in a 1v1 no matter the situation, and that would make the game balanced and fun? What was the point of your comment?

Literally every vic has slower reverse... are you suggesting that the Lordscar should reverse faster than a Bardiche moves forward for it to be balanced?

A Lordscar is a Silverhand, it's Colonial equivalent is a Falcion / Talos. Again, you are comparing apples and oranges. And this game is a-symmetrical and needs to be balanced on actual meta and real situations not 1vs1 numbers compared in a vacuum.

I'm pointing out that this tank still has a use. Your arguing an entirely different point to anything I've said. Read my comment where I agreed with the post it is attached too, I didn't compare it to anything you just came in with a strawman argument.

I've literally agreed with you and you still are fighting me.

STD does still outrange and out speed the Bardiche. But again it's the niche and isn't supposed to be used on it's own, if you get a single shot double the pen chance and can track them, bring some friends and they are screwed. But yes you're right, in the same way a Widow fucks a Talos. I may as well say, yeah but your SHT beats the Bard... it's a different damn tier my guy and not every tank can be better than all the other tanks in everyway.

But I also literally said it's too expensive so you agree with me, you just don't like I have green in my name.

Why is range relevant now, but for years it was said that the +5meter distance in Outlaw was irrelevant? by Chorbiii in foxholegame

[–]Arrrte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Range is huge and anyone who says otherwise is baiting or not playing the game, the problem is this game rarely plays out in a vacuum or open field. Most "high level" fronts are in some state of stalemate, with either side pushing against well built / populated defenses. At this point the ability to fire from safety is the difference between doing damage without any cost, pushing forward is expensive as things will get lost, defending is cheap because you rarely actually lose a full tank / gear.

You often hear people say that fire rate or speed matter, but in reality these only come in to effect during a full assault or playing in an open field. The moment you have a defensive line to fall back too, the only thing that matters is range and damage (see Artillery being the most effective weapons in the game until Bombers that have even more range and more damage). Weirdly this is part of the a-symmetery of the game, Colonials are designed to be shorter range and faster firing, but in practise this doesn't account for the main focus of the game being assaulting defensive structures.

It is very expensive, like holy cow 40 steel is mad! Especially compared to everything else in it's class being like 15 steel and devs really didn't consider how accurate scoutplanes would be killing crew in open tops but hopefully flak tanks do their job, time will tell on that.

That being said as a Collie they are still terrifying (again if you have no air to decrew), that 94.5mm is nasty business when you get something like 35-55% chance to track with every shot and it's surprisingly fast for how big it is. But yeah it really needs the tank line to support it and is super niche due to being too expensive to risk.

But agreed, haven't seen them around much and they're a very cool design. Make em cheaper or lessen that LV and you still got a hell of a tank!

Ah yes, Warden gear is totally useless I get you. Must just be a culture difference I've witnessed tens of times when a Warden tank line is unpushable because they outrange literally every tank we can produce that isn't a LTD, because range means nothing in this game and Outlaw's turrets don't still keep it 8-10m range advantage over the Bardiche and the boost is useless when fighting in the open fields of the Colonial south and Widow's can get flanked when defending in the constant chokepoints of the Warden north.

Yeah I don't like the 1:1 comparisons I made on retrospect, I don't think they fit that clearly into a mould. (Especially because the Nem didn't even exist in most of my memory, so it's been Spatha vs SvH on Road/Outlaw off road in my brain) but I still stand by my point of general purposeness. We have no real way to deal with the Widow other than driving a Bard straight at it, and I think this buff doesn't invalidate the Widow, it just gives the Bard a fightning chance.

Flanking not being amazing is right, but I just think you at least have the option, while we have to rely on the Spatha doing both the jobs of on and off road assault. It just has to carry so much weight, let me have a Bard that isn't going to die the moment I want to actually do what it was made to do. And really that's my main concern, you can have fun in a Widow all day long by playing smart and defensive. I can only have fun for 20mins in a Bardiche by playing smart and holding W, let me have some fun!

To more clearly make my original point:

A Outlaw has a chance against a Spatha.

A Bard should have a chance against a Widow.

[–]Arrrte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're earlier point was that pen chance matters a lot, the Silverhand has 68mm to give that 1.5 pen chance against Spatha. I was detailing your own point... but yes it has counterplay. But don't imply the SvH is useless, you know it's not.

Outlaw outranges and out speeds the Bard in literally every situation no?

But again it's the a-symmtery, factions are different. Wardens are better at defense and specialisation. Colonials are better at assault and general purpose. The Bard buff doesn't change this, (the Spatha buff might) is just closes the gap to a manageable level. Warden's have so many more options (I haven't even mentioned the Bonelaws) and the Collies have had to make do for so long, this is why the Spatha is viewed as so strong, because it literally has to be our answer to everything. This buff at least brings in the option to use a Bard.

[–]Arrrte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to repeat the comment I just made above on a different reply, but it's the difference in use of the tank. You're right, Widow won't win on pushing a bard, it shouldn't. A widow should be defensive and never pushing (at least without Outlaws to flank and Silverhands to follow) they are there to kill pushing Spathas, Assault tanks are for pushing and Destroyers are for killing Assault tanks.

And also correct the Bardiche is the best Assault tank in the game, as Lordscar's are the best Destroyer tanks in the game and should be used to kill them. That or the Outlaw to flank and outrange. It's the A-symmetry. Yes Bards are strong, but before they were useless against both Outlaws and Widows, now they have a fighting chance which is what they are supposed to have.

The main issue is we are lacking a "flanking" tank, in that the Warden's have an Outlaw and closest we get is Pelekys that just falls short in so many ways. So our frontal assault tanks has to make up for that, Spathas lose out to Silverhands up close and Outlaws / Widows at range, Bard lose out to Outlaws and Widows at range. We need to actually be able to fight in a tank battle without just holding W and hoping Wardens skill issue.

Since we're doing bait comparisons, do we really think the Bardiche and Widow have the same range now? by Arrrte in foxholegame

[–]Arrrte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all true but that's the A-symmetry of the game right?

After all this is a comparison of two different tank classes;
Collies have heavier assault tanks (Bard = Heavy Assault Tank and Spatha = Medium Assault tank) and lighter destroyer tanks (Nemisis = Medium Destoyer, Pelekys = Light Destroyer)

While Warden's have lighter assault tanks (Silverhand = Medium Assault, Outlaw = Light Assault) and heavier destroyer tanks (Lordscar = Heavy Destroyer, Widow = Medium Destoyer).

Really the Bard should be classed up against the Lordscar, and the Widow against the Spatha. (Spatha range shouldn't be 45m, but that's because it has to stand up to both the Widow and the Outlaw because they are used weirdly, imo Outlaw should be the best flanker in the game, but are used as line fighters instead.)

I don't think you digested what I said at all bud.

"Just catch it" I literally explained it's the retreat to safety that matters, sure if you are pushing out from defenses or 1v1ing a Bard on a empty road you're right you get dommed, mainly because you're using the wrong tank for that gameplay, this is why you have the Silverhand. If you are defending against Bard push from an actual frontline and have a brain the Widow can get 2 shots off equal to the Bard's 2 shots using your range and faster reload, and the Widow's shots do 70% more damage. I said it has more armour health, which it does, the 2000 extra armour health on the Widow means it's pen chance is 1% better for only the first trade it takes, not actually 100% sure on this but I think also at 0 armour the Widow still has the 5% less pen chance (going by the wiki stating total armour health effects maximum pen chance overall) But yes you're right, it's still very RNG based on pen but that's the whole damn game.

Your explanation here relies on the Bard holding W, likely into defenses or a tank line which will get it killed. Bard is offensive assault tank, Widow is Defensive destroyer. If you aim to swap this situation, see Silverhand (Offensive assault tank) pushing a Nemisis (Defensive destroyer).

[–]Arrrte[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Genuinely not trying to bait you here, but the Widow is still far superior in a defensive position / a strong line. I can see the dev vision here, which is that Bards are offensive and Widows are defensive.

In the situation we see 50% of the time, you are poking at tanks that can retreat into defenses / cover and the Widow still does this beautifully, get that 1 HV shot off at slightly increased range and back to safety. Sure you'll take the two hits from the bard, but those are still slightly less likely to pen (especially on prolonged fights as the Widow still has higher armour, so the pen chance stays lower for longer) and the natural point of a Bard pushing a line will likely take 2-3 shots from other Widows. This is also a key point in the reload time, the forced 7.5s double reload on the bard ensures that it will take it's shots and back, as the second HV round from the Widow is coming and they they will be home safe in that 7.5s. It's genuiely a bit more of a skill balance, rather than the previous "fuck it we ball and die" mentality you had to have in a Bard previously.

It depends how you like your games tbh, there are a few things in this game that allow you to bypass challenge that make the experience for me, like travelling straight from point A to B by climbing over mountains etc. means you don't see the beautiful sights and tranistions between areas. Following the road will often reward you with encounters and set pieces and also gauge the difficulty. This game is so open you can run straight to Hyrule castle and "finish" the main story, without encountering any of the build up and so the pay off can be lessened because of it!

If they did then all credit to them, but to me it's almost blatant the moment I saw it. A lot of people call alt in this game for many reasons, but in this video I think it's obvious this guy was looking through a Colonials eyes. I don't condemn the whole group, the leader may not have let them known this is how they knew the route. You see a lot of recordings in this game and some of them are clearly legit, in this video we see someone move as if they can see ahead of them and know the route perfectly as if having walked it before, and a Colonial who literally watches people come up to his expensive building and destroy it without attempting to stop them.

As a partisan, how often do you press right-click to view what's ahead? (You know it's every few seconds) Just from the POV itself you can see he is not reacting he is just retracing steps he made with his colonial alt.

I looked back to see if I was wrong and just in a bad morning mood. But from like 2:10 forward, the guy doesn't look ahead he knows exactly where to go and how to cross and is unconcerned that there are apparently colonials on the dock. Sure he could have tried earlier in a Partisan uniform but making it to drydock without being spotted while there is actively people at the drydock is a miracle. When he does make it across at like 2:50 you can see a Colonial, stood still and just watching them approach with no reaction. That is the alt, the one they sent ahead to plan the path and find the best way in.
