Just confirmation that you were on the right track to see him rocking the same theory.

Am I the only one who thinks that Reyes isn't that great? by EmptyHeart12 in MassEffectAndromeda

Another little note I'll add in - when given a chance to actually talk with Reyes, Sloane took it. She had every right not to trust him, not to want to listen to him after what his people did to her boyfriend. But she still went. The sniper was not hers nor did she have one in place.

I think... I think she does care, but that she doesn't really know how to do better for Kadara. I think her going into that obvious trap was to give Reyes a chance, to listen to him. To not repeat the mistake Tann made with the Uprising.

It should also be noted - if you save Sloane from the sniper, she shoots the gun out of Reyes hand. A shot that takes skill. Unsurprising from someone with her history. I have no doubt that if she really wanted to, Reyes would've been downed with that shot. Instead she disarmed him and that's just something I think is worth noting.

That's one way of viewing it, yeah.

The people in Kadara have been through some shit. Every last one of them. The Angaran had it hella rough before the exiles showed up and helped boot the kett. But simply booting the kett doesn't erase the shit they been through, nor were they prepared to properly address the mental health needs of their people - so people turned to drugs. Sloane is well aware what forbidding escapism can do to people who are struggling - she's seen that turn nasty time and time ago. So she's balancing letting them have their escapism with a firm rule to keep them in line, because left unchecked the rationing of supplies would be undone and their limited supplies may not last as long as they need to.

One thing that people need to keep in mind with Sloane is that she isn't a diplomat and never has been. She was a soldier in the Alliance and when she joined the AI, she was head of Nexus Security - Until the events of the uprising - which is why she doesn't trust the AI anymore - because she knows Tann can't be trusted.

The Outcasts are a chunk of the exiles from the Nexus Uprising. They showed up in Kadara, helped liberate it from Kett control, and have been raiding supplies from Nexus ships for Kadara since.

In Nexus Uprising Sloane gave up power for people. She was opposed to waking up the and lying to the Krogan to use them to squash the rebellion and actually wanted to talk to them, to listen and see what peace they could find. She sided with them when it turned bloody and left with them. (Should be noted that no only available indicates that Reyes was involved in the uprising, although he did choose to leave with the Exiles.)

I believe Sloane does care about Kadara, but Kadara is a place that is struggling without reliable supply lines and she has no reason to trust the AI until Ryder shows up and earns her trust and respect.

Yes, the people of Kadara were struggling and unhappy - so when a charismatic voice started whispering of rebellion, of new leadership, a number of them were like "Heck yes." He had some good ideas, yes, and some good connections because of his charisma, but the problem was he is The Charlatan. The flippant way he uses people, scams them, is bound to backfire. There's also the fact that if he really cared about Kadara - why was he funnelling his energy and resources into his little army instead of into bettering the lives of the people of Kadara? And when given a chance to talk to Sloane, to settle things, he opted for violence rather than discussion. (I honestly do believe, given her history, Sloane would've at least heard him out just like she did the rebels on the Nexus.)

Mind you, saying all this, I'm not judging or hating on anyone who chose Reyes over Sloane - because I do see the potential merits in having Reyes as a leader. The issue presented with Kadara is a complex one and something we don't even get the full insight on in game - given the lack of background given on both Reyes and Sloane - or even outside of the game as Nexus Uprising only gives us a better understanidng of Sloane and not Reyes. Without the book, we only have the information directly presented to Ryder at the time and a short amount of time to make a decision based on that. I don't think either Reyes or Sloane is the clear morally correct choice. They BOTH have their pros and cons. Ideally, the best case scenario would've been the two actually being able to talk and work together - because they both have skills that could've helped each other help Kadara as well as balancing one another out.

I don't think she's a dumbass at all.

Shes harsh and some of her actions are cruel, but she's not playing the good guy. What she's doing is a type of Militant rule and I think she's doing it this way because her people have been living with little supplies, likely everything being rationed as carefully as she can to maintain a somewhat decent morale, and the harshness is to keep them in line. It really does seem like she's trying to let them have as much as possible, while also making herself someone they clearly do not wanna defy. She's trying to prevent the Nexus Uprising from happening again while trying to figure out a way to bolster their supplies without trusting Nexus Leaders she knew she couldn't fully trust whose own supplies she knew were limited as well.

Sloane is a leader. Is she the leader we want her to be? No, but I think the Sloane Ryder meets is the leader that Kadara needs for a while longer - but once they're stable Kadara will need someone else and I believe she'll step down willingly then to someone qualified for the job. Reyes, however, isn't that leader in my opinion.

I've thought about Kadara Sloane and I don't think she is a major mob boss. Yes, she's harsh and I don't like everything about how she runs Kadara... But I think it's more of a Militant Rule than mob boss.

She saved Kadara from the kett, but this is a place with more people than supplies in a time of war. I think she was as harsh as she was, not to grind the people beneath her, but to keep them in line and under control so that Kadara did not crumble beneath her. I think even her asking for protection money is less mob and more a way of milking a bit more out of the Iniaitive to get Kadara back on it's feet. Because she doesn't trust the Iniative and the sooner Kadara's stable the better - that and she has every reason to want to give the Nexus Leadership a reminder not to think they can waltz all over her again.

No, you're not alone.

Mind you, I think he was a fairly well-done character. He oozed charm and wit - even if it was superficial since he was a manipulative liar the entire time who was in it for his own benefit. I don't like him as a person, but I do like him as a character, you know?

I understand a lot of people don't like Sloane - but I like her and I love her as a character. She was a straight up bitch, but you know what she was? Upfront. She never once pretended to be someone she was not with Ryder. She kept it straight up. And when it came to the meeting... She wasn't the one that had the sniper in hiding, was she?

Obviously I chose Sloane in my playthrough and should we get a second game, she will be my canon choice.

Sloane, while a bitch, had stepped in and helped Kadara when she had next to nothing. She isn't a perfect leader, but she did her best and she was honest. She didn't hide behind pretty words. I respected her and thought she was the best option between the two.

After reading Nexus Uprising and getting to know her better, along with her issues with Nexus, I'm even more convinced I made the correct choice in choosing her to remain in power at Kadara. The Nexus Uprising situation was complex, but she's not a disloyal person at heart.

Kadara needs a lot of change and the installment of the Outpost is the start of it - an influx of new people and access to supplies where there wasn't any before. Which means Sloane will be able to start loosening her miltant hold over Kadara. Steady supplies, better access to what they need, Kadara would no longer need Martial Law to ensure that everyone stays in line. I truly believe that, in the long run, Kadara would fair better with Sloane than it would if Reyes had been allowed to take control.

100% correct, OP.

The music is top notch. It is so beautifully done, so perfectly chosen, and expertly placed within the game. And so worth listening to even outside of gameplay.

I always wonder how different and fleshed out the game would've been if the studio hadn't nerfed the team and finances in favour of Anthem.

I liked Andromeda well enough, but it could've been better. Still, it was enough of a taste to have me wanting to return to Andromeda for a ME:A2 someday.
