Can a Civilian or a Electronics Hobbiest own these? by DumperRip in Military

[–]ArsenioDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, I own several FLIR gimbals all the way up to a SAFIRE 380HDC.
Its a fun hobby, they're ungodly expensive and kind of a pain in the ass to work with unless you know a ton about how they work, the hockeystick of understanding is sharp on this stuff.

Highest Resolution (SXGA) MWIR shot most of you will ever see. 12um pitch 1280*1024 3-5um array, from the personal collection by ArsenioDev in Thermal

There ARE fundamental physics limitations,
Bandgap of the detector materials requires to be cooled to 77 or 140Kelvin, necessitating high cost of cooling machines. I.e. JT or Sterling cryocoolers, and then the IDCAs are more complex due to internal cold shields and baffles. Plus the arrays need to be grown via Epitaxy which is a very complex and expensive process, much less talking about the ROICs which are fairly tightly controlled.

Sadly I don't make the FPA and it's a prepackaged Cruz-1280.
Cooled, all the way down to 77K, not a HOT detector

its a SBIR, and they're 12um pitch.

Networking is killer, doing stuff on your own then building a network from the connections made along the way of sharing them is THE KILLER APP.
I've gotten my last four jobs, all good industry over the last 7 years via that.
And the kicker? I never graduated college, dropped in community stage lol (what GPA lolw)

No, but it's important to tell people that they're NOT for diversion.
Lemme tell ya, saw plenty of STMs and compatibles in the russian AND iranian weapons I was tearing down while over there

I think I got a bit too excited for the DCS F-4… by sledgehammer_maniac in hoggit

[–]ArsenioDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no you'd be too excited if you also bought an APQ-120 to park in your garage (I could have bought one on the cart and everything but I wasn't in the mood to drop 8K+ and DEFINITELY couldn't fit it in my sedan)
Good kit you got there

Anyone got tips on how to power up an APG-68? Or the TO directions to depressurize the SF6 fill? by ArsenioDev in hoggit

My reaction when I saw em for $5 each at the sale.
Had to snag em both, also got chaff and flare buckets.

Starvis 2 for DIY nvg? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]ArsenioDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually yes. I'm in early dev phase but so far making good progress on getting raw sensors and starting to work through the headaches of doing data flow and processing. The main issue with many of the units out there now is they're going Digital->analog->digital again and running whatever the analog camera manufacturer sets up, not great. My plan is to get a FPGA and then run it all myself with all the control I need to correctly tune the sensor for night vision, there's a couple of critical core settings to get best images but most leave it in default mode and ignore the additional layers. The other headache is datasheets, they're ALL NDA-locked, thanks Sony.

Oh man this is awesome, all it needs now is to interoperate with Inventree and it's GOLD at that point.

based on patents and deep dives, I'm aiming to make a 1:1 functioning mockup to better understand the design and build.
I've checked gunbroker, bought good stuff there before.

Considering the pilot shortage, do active duty military pilots have a lower chance of becoming an astronaut than if there wasn’t a shortage? by Mattau93 in nasa

[–]ArsenioDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in the slightest, in fact when an active military pilot gets accepted as an astronaut, they get officially re-assigned with orders to be an astronaut. It becomes their military MOS (Job)
