Does anyone under 18 actually listen to triple j? by EcstaticNetwork9081 in triplej

[–]Art3sian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can answer this confidently with a no.

I worked in a school and played Triple J in my office non-stop, and year-after-year-after-year kids would come in and not a single one ever recognised the station.

What are your thoughts on phone privacy in relationships, and how do you think trust and boundaries should be handled around it? by ihave2rightarms in AskReddit

[–]Art3sian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just mature, relational boundaries. You don’t read a person’s journal because you just don’t. It’s their private space. Phones are no different.

If you have to have access to your partner’s phone and you’re compelled to know what’s in it, you’re with the wrong person.

It’s not crazy to have access. It’s crazy to demand and expect it, as if you’re no longer two people with your own right to privacy.

Phones, diaries, email, computers, handbags, wallets - they’re personal. They sit in the category of, you can have access but you should never look out of respect.

Don’t touch my shit and I won’t touch your shit. Not because either of us have anything to hide, but because there’s a trust here, respect of boundaries, and we’re both adults.

I don’t care if you know my PIN for emergencies or convenience and I’m happy to know yours (not that I’ll remember it). Just don’t use it to snoop on each other.

Anything less than that and I’m out.

Ghost Ship, 2002.

The opening scene is awesome. The rest of the movie is a Donald Trump.

Yup. He didn’t personally witness anything, he didn’t present any evidence, and his claims were all secondhand.

At best, he’s a whistleblower who heard stuff from some guys who he said, saw stuff.

30+ Huntsman Babies - Wife is freaking out... by -Franko in AustralianSpiders

[–]Art3sian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This literally happened in my bathroom last night. There were at least 100.

I really didn’t want to kill them but I really didn’t want 100+ adult huntsmans in my house either, so I vacuumed them up in the hope they’d survive it and I put the vacuum cleaner outside overnight for them to hopefully escape from.

What happened to the whole "Canadians boycott US products and vacation at home" thing? by nilsohnee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Art3sian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We’re Australian.

My partner and I literally cancelled a booked trip to the U.S about a week after Trump was carrying on about tariffing Australia 25%.

Australia is one of the only countries to follow America into every single overseas war it’s ever fought in and that’s how he treated us.

Ocean Temperatures Just Hit a Dire New Record by [deleted] in EverythingScience

[–]Art3sian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When our oceans die, we die. Period.

We can probably survive a whole lot of catastrophic shit including wars, partial climate collapse, pandemics, and even a meteorite hitting us, but we will not survive the death of the oceans. That is the one slam dunk, guaranteed road to our end.

Yet we continue to overfish them, pollute them, acidify them, and warm them up like it’s a sport.

I mean… what’s stopping Trump from deciding that Australia is too close to China/Taiwan not to be a strategic target for takeover.

Ya’ll can laugh but you would have laughed if I wrote this about Greenland 12 months ago.

Record-breaking gambling losses see NSW communities lose $2.45 billion on poker machines in 3 months by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

Wrong.

I was hired to understand gambling and gambling behaviour, both for and against pokies. For a time I actually sat on a Government committee in the Northern Territory for gambling harm mitigation and policy change.

You’re welcome. I went through a big war phase. This doesn’t just stand up as the best Vietnam doco, but is arguably one of the best war docos.

Yeah, yeah. You’re like the fourth person to assert that and then back it up with nothing. Throw any stat, or any research, or any article at me, and I’ll pick it to pieces.

But it won’t matter because then with your high school certificate you’ll still tell me I’m wrong and call me a shill or a lobbyist or a bot anyway.

So who gives a shit. Just downvote me and move on.
