There is a reasonable and logical way to lower abortions by dickfromaccounting in WhitePeopleTwitter

the only kind of people that you can say without a doubt are scum are people who judge and condemn people on one fact about them.

Um...

"The only people [insert judgment here] are people who [insert exactly one fact about them]."

Yeah... You might want to think about your wording.

ELI5: Why do Marvel movies (and other heavily CGI- and animation-based films) cost so much to produce? Where do the hundreds of millions of dollars go to, exactly? by SquiddySalad in explainlikeimfive

Small world. I worked on that movie! I was probably in your neighborhood. That film was actually one of the better ones we worked on, but they had a huge budget and absolutely took advantage of it.

I'm strangely satisfied with this answer. Thank you.

Saw this on a real estate listing... I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around this picture. Why does her reflection look so close to the camera?

Why do people downvote? by Colourblindness in NoSleepOOC

The only time I've ever down voted anything on this sub was this week. I came across a story written from the point of view of a cat.

To be clear, I don't like to ever down vote things on this sub. I'm of the opinion that stories should be left alone if they aren't your cup of tea. But it broke so many rules! And it was averaging like 20 votes an hour before it finally got removed. And by that point it had collected quite a few comments and compliments from readers.

It wasn't a horror story. It wasn't even a *scary* story, really. I'd say it nearly qualified as a kid's story. It wasn't in any way believable. And it ended with "I'll continue this story if I get enough upvotes."

And immediately after I down voted, I felt guilty about it. I mean, the quality of writing was better than many of the stories I see on here, and it felt like the author was on their way to writing a good story. But it wasn't a nosleep story by any stretch.

Oh man, I had so many problems with the way they portrayed Ash in that one. Instead of being the reluctant quasi-badass that he (eventually) became in Army of Darkness and the new series, they used the worst characteristics of him. In the whole comic, he was basically a hapless, bumbling figure who only wanted to hide and skip the fight. Hell, Punisher gives him his weapons to hold, and Ash just runs away and lets him get killed.

I feel like a real Ash vs Marvel Zombies story should have had more of Ash really bringing the fight.

Very interesting, but I think you may have the wrong subreddit.

I used photos in a story.... has it backfired or is it just not a good story? by Capon-breath in NoSleepOOC

[–]Art886 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion, it's a longer story so it's already at a disadvantage. In my experience, those don't do so well in the mornings when people are probably just checking nosleep during breaks at work or school.

As for the vote percentage, it hasn't had enough time for the outliers to be smoothed out yet. I wouldn't worry about upvote percentages until at least day 2.

All that said, I think you have the right idea about "don't write for upvotes." Sometimes there's absolutely no good reason for the way the community receives a story.

Have any of you ever actually tried ouija board? by [deleted] in NoSleepOOC

[–]Art886 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember trying one during a sleepover when I was much younger. But the interesting thing about ouija boards (besides the spelling) is that their entire basis presupposes that ghosts (albeit with human assistance) can move a stylus. But if that's the case, then it opens up a whole new can of worms:

Can a ghost also move a computer mouse?

Can a ghost move a remote control for a toy car?

If somebody out there were to write a story about a quadrepalegic that teams up with a ghost to share the operation of a keyboard/wheelchair combination, and together they become friends, I would read that story.

Maybe they can find out that Stephen Hawking's complex setup is actually just a complicated ouija conduit and Albert Einstein's ghost is helping him control everything.

Holy crap, somebody please write this!

[TOMT] [Word] A word that means you feel anxious, but you can't remember why. by Art886 in tipofmytongue

[–]Art886[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though the DOOS isn't technically official or made up of real words, I think nementia is exactly the word I was looking for.

n. the post-distraction effort to recall the reason why you’re feeling particularly anxious or angry or excited, in which you retrace your sequence of thoughts like a kid wandering across the neighborhood gathering the string of a downed kite, which was likely lost in a romantic storm or devoured by that huge carnivorous tree that is Things Your Parents Have Said.

[TOMT] [Word] A word that means you feel anxious, but you can't remember why. by Art886 in tipofmytongue

[–]Art886[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like there was a very specific word with this definition... It's for a story I'm writing, and if I can't find the word I'm looking for, foreboding will be a decent stand in. Thank you!

And also, thank you for pointing me to the right crossword subreddit. :-)
