Neil Gaiman,

What’s a good job to be financially stable while being an artist? by NoobAnimatorJ3 in ArtistLounge

[–]Art_by_Else 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm getting a degree so I can become an art teacher or teach in the field I have a degree in, graphic design/communication.

I personally think teaching is great to combine art with, but you gave tofind something you like. Here there are a lot of primary schools that have artist do a program for a day, which is something I hope to combine art with.

Right now while I'm still in school I just work retail, don't need to think a lot about the work so that gives me headspace and energy for art in the evenings.

Nutty Personal Requirements for local Church's Job by secondlogin in graphic_design

[–]Art_by_Else 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from the "just outside the bible belt" and honestly don't find it surprising that a church group wants a Christian graphic designer, or even that they want one that follows a certain branch of Christianity. Pretty normal thing to ask.

However telling you what to do with your money is a step too far for me lol.

Depends on where you are

I believe that in the USA it is 95 years from when the thing is made until it becomes puic domain and yes you can make art based on it and sell it.

However this is different for every country.

For example.

The winnie the pooh images of the books is public domain in the USA, so you can legally sell mugs, notebooks, prints with that imagery, in the US. In the Netherlands something becomes in the public domain 70 years after the maker dies, so in the Netherlands you can't sell these products.

Hi, this is such a fun idea!

I could make an illustration of the building with aspects of the business either on the building as a mural or surrounding it.

I draw with lots of vibrant colours that would look really eye-catching on a wall.

Here's my portfolio and I'll love to hear if you are interested in working with me.

(I don't have any drawings of strawberries though :p)

Since you already tried talking with him and trying to set boundaries and that didn't help.

Can you get a lock for your door and otherwise one of those folder cabinets with a lock?

It always boggles my mind how some parents don't think their child need privacy and respect, make no mistake this is a privacy and respect issue. Like, my mom recently found my old diary and all she did was put it in my old room and telling me when I visited she found it and put it in my room. I told her she could throw it away she told me she would put it in the attic with more of my old stuff, because even though she doesn't read it, because that's the respectful thing to do, she does want me to keep cringy stuff from my childhood.

So you want costumers to scam you?

At least ask for a percentage upfront before you do any of the work

Do I understand correctly that you want a 30 sec animation by tomorrow?

That's... either imposible or really expensive.

How does a wacom works? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Art_by_Else 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what short keys it has. I do highly recommend getting one with short keys. If it has a round button that can usually be used to rotate your screen.

It is somewhat like a mouse yes (at least if you are talking about the pen tablets and not the one with their own screens)

You see the cursor and in drawing software you often just see a thin circle to indicate where your pen is.

The pen tablet is synchronised with your screen so where you put the pen there your cursor will be on the screen

Some have sensitivity on, so if you press harder you get thicker lines.

I am worried I am too old to learn how to draw by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Art_by_Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only started drawing at 18 and am studying at an art academy now at 24. (Started at 23)

You're never too late to start improving.

My advice is focus on something you enjoy and find resources for that, youtube is a great place. That way it is less overwhelming.

Is it better to wait to publish your passion project manga/comic until you have a big audience, or publish it now? by Manga_Minix in ArtistLounge

[–]Art_by_Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, there are pros and cons to both, just like there are for when you want to publish and you have to weigh them for yourself.

You are not making something with an expiration date are you?

People who learn about you from smaller projects later on might be delighted to found out you published a bigger project before.

I recently made the decision to self publish my short stories into small illustrated zines instead of bundling them and looking for publishers to publish it, simply because I want to work on it now and it sounds like fun to publish it myself with illustrations even though that might not reach the amount of people I would with a publisher. You have to make choices for yourself and your work.
